Roy Kizer Golf Course
About
This is a 36-hole city-owned operation that features one of Austin's best muni tracks, the Roy Kizer Golf Course, which complements the 1970s Jimmy Clay layout.
Austin's old water treatment facility was transformed by Randy Russell, who had more than 80 acres of lakes and marshland at his disposal when he laid out the 200-acre site. Russell's links-style design is flat, burdened by the wind, and loaded with bunkers. The toughest par is No. 11, which rolls 468 yards into the wind and is shamefully listed as a par 4. Take your bogey on No. 11.

This is Andy. He's in sales and is somehow always 'working' when we're playing golf. He can almost never be tagged on a Facebook golf course check-in during a weekday. He's 'working.' So here's proof that he was out with us playing golf yet again. :) Photo submitted by GordonATX on 09/08/2018

Great winter condition Photo submitted by jimpham on 01/07/2017
Nice course, great location, lots of wildlife.
Links style course with generally ample landing areas for drives, though some holes had fairly tight lies and approach targets. We found the course in great shape for December, lots of waterfowl on the numerous bodies of water. Well worth the green fee!
Great links type course in Austin, TX
Being a public course, it is probably the best in Austin, certainly in terms of condition and playability. An upscale course that presents plenty of challenge for all levels of players but it won't wear you out either. I really like and highly recommend this golf course.
course was in great shape
Have not played course in a while. In great shape. Great hot deal. Ready to play again.
Pure muni
Typical central TX muni. Wide open - you can hit your teeball just about anywhere, go get it and still be in the hole.
Don't expect much in the way of refinement. Watch out for domestic animals. That's right - dogs! During our round, the group behind has a pair of black labs tagging along - in fifty years of playing golf all over the country, that was a first for me.
Wide open spaces
Had a midday tee time and thought I would be a quick round... not the case. We moved along but it did end up being a 5 hour round. Played as a single but got paired up with some nice folks.
The course is link style so it would be tough if the wind decided to blow. It was a fun course without any real tricks. GolfNow had a great price ans it was well work the price.
Conditions were what would be expected at a muni course not bad but not great.
I will certainly play again
Best City Run Golf Course
In my opinion this is the best city of Austin golf course by far. The course as a whole is in great shape and is fun to play. The course is a links style with wide open fairways but lots of water and sand to make it challenging. The course is usually full and has a slower pace but is worth it if you have around 4.5 hours to play. Great value for the price as well.
nice course
I consider this to be my home course. staff is great. Has some challenging holes and holes that are easy enought to make you want to come back time and time again.
Location
Austin does not offer enough munies. THerefore, Kizer isn't too bad for what your paying. The course layout is fairly easy. The Greens have def seen better days. Clay has many more trees, Kizer has somewhat of a links layout
City of Austin's Top Course Is A Links Challenge
A links course if there ever was one, Kizer's flat, treeless appearance is deceiving. You will play the wind--or it will play you. And you will definitely notice the water, although, in the end, there aren't many shots forced directly over it. Kizer's a good place to test your game -- to really see how you're scoring -- and still get a challenge. Course conditions here are usually superior to the City of Austin's other properties. They're proud of their work here, and it shows in the green fees, so you've come to the right place to look for a little break. Good luck getting a break on pace of play--it's usually pretty slow.
Jatinder Singh
I played first time at this course, course was in average condition, weather may be playing the role, hope it turns great in coming days.
This is a great Muni course. Its not a country club but the quality of greens and some of the hole layouts make it a fun course. They have actually made it easier over the years. Hole 5 over the water was further back and with a less forgiving angle and the trap in front of 16 was very British Open-trap. Hole 17 is a Par 5 blind left dog-leg and is less challenging during the winter, but still difficult for most to birdie. The wind is usually up at this course and adds to difficulty but it is not a wide open course. There is water, bush and some tree action (but nowhere near the trees like a Clay). This is a fun course and one of my favorites. Similar to Star Ranch in Hutto. Not as wide open as Tera Vista in Round Rock.
