Rating 72.2

This is a 36-hole city-owned operation that features one of Austin's best muni tracks, the Roy Kizer Golf Course, which complements the 1970s Jimmy Clay layout.

Austin's old water treatment facility was transformed by Randy Russell, who had more than 80 acres of lakes and marshland at his disposal when he laid out the 200-acre site. Russell's links-style design is flat, burdened by the wind, and loaded with bunkers. The toughest par is No. 11, which rolls 468 yards into the wind and is shamefully listed as a par 4. Take your bogey on No. 11.

Literally a scam

Temporary greens in the fairway? You have got to be joking. This muni has been such a staple to the local Austin Golf scene and has just become such a joke with the condition of the green and absolutely no transparency until you show up to pay. Go play Riverside instead. SHUT THIS COURSE DOWN AND STOP CHARGING PEOPLE TO PLAY HERE.

Poor course quality

Greens were absolute crap and the staff didn’t even warn us about it. Should’ve gotten a refund how bad it was.

Waist of Money

Greens are currently nothing but dirt. Of course, no warning and they charged regular price. City of Austin needs to make changes. This seems to happen to this course every year. They'll end up closing the course for a few months to spend taxpayer money to re-do the greens. After that, they'll kill them again. They need to get someone in there that knows something about managing a golf course.

VERY nice course for the price

The course is very nice! Challenging yet playable for any player skill. The tee boxes and fairways were in excellent condition, but the greens are in need of some TLC.

Greens are unplayable - Dirt/Mud

The greens are completely unplayable. At times just mud / destroyed grass on the entire green.

Not worth playing at all. Embarrassing.

Did not give any warning about greens when booking with staff in person. Acted like the course was in good shape.

Real bad greens

They should not charge full price to play those greens. Get on the green and just count two putts because you can't putt on them. Was not like this last year. Greens keeper has to be responsible. Only grass is Crab grass.

Over priced

They should not charge 70 dollars to play greens that are Absolutely horrible. No grass, painted and holes all over, was not like this last year.

Criminal

Absolutely criminal to be charging full price for greens like that. Look… I’ve played kizer well over 50 times and always have a great time here but for the condition the greens are in right now as of April 2024 just avoid this place for awhile. Fairways are fine and bunkers but the greens looks just as bad as blackhawks or a dirt road. DO BETTER AUSTIN MUNI’s!!

Greens were a joke

Would never typically review a mini course but greens are in horrendous condition w no signs of improving. Not just bad but impacts round a ton and made it not a real round of golf.

Horrible greens, avoid playing here

Greens are in horrible shape, super bumpy and hardly any grass. Pretty sad for this course to shut down a few years back to fix the greens because they lost them and looks like they are losing them again. In general Clay, Kizer and Willie all have horrible greens right now, don't know what is going on with the munis these days. Just go up north and pay a little bit more to play Star Ranch or ShadowGlen which both courses have greens in great shape.

Kizer

The greens are not in and are mostly dirt. Course conditions don't warrant the cost.

March 2024

The fairways and tee boxes are great, sand traps are pretty good all around but the greens are 95% dirt/sand and crab grass.

Given that the greens are so bad I wouldn’t play it for the next month or so

Course was fun, pace was bad

Starter was letting 2-somes go off by themselves without waiting for all four in the group to assemble at the 1st tee, which ruined the pace for the whole round. Probably just on him but why the staff would hire someone with no experience or not train them is odd.

Poor condtions

Tee boxes were bare. Fairways were hard and no grass. Greens were dormant and hard to read. Pace was slow but manageable.
