Royal Ontario Golf Club
About
Royal Ontario Golf Club sprawls across gentle hillsides blanketed in mature trees and thick fescue. Formerly a stable, the course features large meadows and dense groves of trees that frame the fairways and greens. The layout has a more traditional, links design that features occasional water hazards, most notably on the par-5 ninth and 18th holes that share a large lake, but the tree-covered hills are the true challenge of the golf course. Although there are many difficult elements on this course, five sets of tees make it accessible for players of all skill levels. Royal Ontario Golf Club is often compared to the Masters Course at Lionhead Golf & Country Club.

A Very Challenging Track
Beautiful course in great condition. We played early and finished just under 4 hours. Felt like we were the only ones on course. Very satisfying round.
Workers education
The workers didn't realize we wear playing. Never stop or tour off the machines
Can find better course for the value
Course is beaten up. Tee box have huge divots. Grounds crew maintain the course while you're playing instead of pulling aside or stop the mower while you're putting.
lack of Marshal
Amazing day, great conditions and the course was in excellent condition also. The pace of play was really slow. The foursome in front of us was taking mulligans every hole playing from the gold tee's. Didn't see a marshal all day, the only thing that ruined almost a perfect day
Terrible pace
The pace was terrible, and there were no Marshals around on a Saturday afternoon.
Very disappointing!
Great course. Greens crew need some etiquette lessons.
This course was a lot of fun to play and was a good challenge. It was in great shape and the greens really challenge your game. Only negative was the lack of etiquette of greens crew. Staring to mow tees when we were preparing to hit. Mowing around fringe when we were putting. We didn't need silence but be respectful.
Great course better test
Great test of golf, will make me a better player , various shots needed, super greens .
Will play here again
Play the course short the first time
The second time playing the course will make it more challenging now that I know the layout,
Another great Kaneff property
As with Lionhead, RO is simply immaculate. It has a private club feel and is priced well.
I enjoyed the variance in shot decisions throughout the course. If there is one gripe its that the front nine has several very tight shots and for a first time player this can be daunting.
I look forward to playing RO again.
All and all good value and a nice track (minus the blind shots)
Thought the course was very aesthetic, challenging and a great addition as a go to track, would recommend playing, only quarrel is there is a number of blind shots off the tee that would be frustrating for a golfer playing there the first time, luckily enough we got paired up with a golfer who played the course before to guide us off the tee..
Great Course at Discounted Price
The one problem with Royal Ontario is that it takes a long time to play. Fortunately, this time my partner and I were able to play through several foursomes, thank you to all that let us through.
The course was in great condition except for sand bunkers that were thin,
Royal Ontario
A great course to play; challenging but not too challenging. The staff looking after the carts were very friendly and helpful.
This course challenges you
This is a challenging and scenic golf course. Would not hesitate to play it again and again.
playing early!
We have learned that in order to play here under 4.5 hours you need to play before 7 am. For some reason they always get behind and you end up with rounds lasting more than 4.5 hours. We played at 608 am as a 2some and played in just over 3 hours. AWESOME. Greens were rolling nice and the recent rain has the rough very thick.
All in all a very good day.
Good course
The course was in good condition, the pace of play was good, but a course Marshall tarnished the experience. All other staff were top notch.
Course is challenging on approach shots
The course is generally playable off the tee but the approach shots are challenging as there isn't a lot of forgiveness if you miss the greens by too much. The food was ok but very slow. In fairness to staff, it was a busy day and only one bartender and one waitress were there that day.
Features
I come from Scarborough to play this course that is well groom in great shape and the staff treat you very well, challenging trap that should be played by all once and you will go back. It's worth the drive to ......... Halton !!!!
NO VALUE FOR MONEY
I managed to get a half price deal on GOLF NOW and thank goodness I did. I have wanted to play this course for a long time but after playing it, I would not pay the full green fee rate. The fairways are not that great for the full green fee price. For the regular price they charge they should at least give you a free GPS on your cart. Overall very disappointed..
Great place to sit and wait
I had been looking forward to playing this course for a long time. I savers $40 per player through golf now, but even that wasn't enough to make up for the terrible pace. We were 20 mins late teeing off and for the entire front 9 got to watch two groups tee off and enjoy 2 groups watch us tee off. Things sped up on the back 9 thankfully because we finished just shy of 6 hours. I've since learned that they overbook on a consistent basis. Had I paid through the course directly I would have been talking to a manager to get my money back. First and last round at Royal Ontario.
O.K. If you can play at discounted reate
The course is good, but the layout is very tight, and congested with a lot of rubbing shoulders with other groupings. You'll see and hear a lot of other golfers during your round.
