Royal Ontario Golf Club
About
Royal Ontario Golf Club sprawls across gentle hillsides blanketed in mature trees and thick fescue. Formerly a stable, the course features large meadows and dense groves of trees that frame the fairways and greens. The layout has a more traditional, links design that features occasional water hazards, most notably on the par-5 ninth and 18th holes that share a large lake, but the tree-covered hills are the true challenge of the golf course. Although there are many difficult elements on this course, five sets of tees make it accessible for players of all skill levels. Royal Ontario Golf Club is often compared to the Masters Course at Lionhead Golf & Country Club.

Poor Green Condition, Extremely slow pace of play
There is no way this place is worth the $120/round that is posted on their website. Overall the course was in ok shape. Fairways and greens were good, greens were hard, and chewed up (it is the fall though) and the sand traps were in good shape.
Worst part about this course was how slow the pace of play was. We finished the round over the 5 hour mark, and it took us 3 hours just to finish the front 9. The course was clearly packing in as many people as possible to get their last few dollars for the season......if you want to play at this course, wait until next year or your going to be waiting at every hole.
Nice course but over price
Great course but too crownded. It took me 5:45 to finish 18 holes.
The washroom outside at nine hole is dirty. Was not clean for many days.
Good test
Although, not the best public course in the area (crosswinds, pipers) it still can hold it's own. Some really tight fairways and elevation changes along with some very undulating greens make royal Ontario a true test of ones golfing abilities. A negative at this time of year are the greens which were pretty chewed up on some holes. Other than that, a great day at royal Ontario!
Course is always in great condition
Played with a friend from Michigan .. we both very much like the course.
We would definitely play again!
worth the green fee
good course to play from any tees. a good test of your golfing skills.
enjoyed the round
I golf often but usually at same course. Really enjoyed this course. Very good condition.
Expected more professionalism
Booked through Golfnow.com as a single player. I was paired up with another person who also had the same type of booking. There was no starter to control the T box; many groups who started at 10 turned up at first T to continue their game. There was a big line up so we went to the pro shop to report the matter as well to ask whether an we also start from 10. They said we can't start at 10 and asked us to go back 1 and wait ; somebody will be there shortly to control the situation. Nobody turned up after even after 10 minutes. By then we had very well passed our booked T time. Seeing our miserable condition one of the foursome groups waiting there was nice enough to let us go in front of them . So we started our game. Fairways were nicely maintained but some of the greens were no up this clubs standard. Expected more professionalism for sure. The cart given to us ran out of battery power at hole 18. We had to push the cart uphill to the cart return area.
Great Track - needs some love though
First time playing RO, I had heard a lot of good things about the course.
The course is a little untidy (rough, fringe, 1st cut un kept etc) and the greens need some work but I very much enjoyed playing here. Would not pay full price mind you.
will be back!
Nice pleasant place
Just an all around great course. Challenging but Fair!
Royal Ontario
Friendly staff on a well maintained course with lots of trouble if you're in the wrong place. Overall, a fair but challenging test. We plan on playing there again soon.
challenging course if you don't stay on the fairway
My score did not reflect my enjoyment of the course. I wandered into the rough way too often and paid the price. The scenery is lovely, and the course is mostly flat, but shot placement is important.
Nice Course
Very nice course, and well maintained, but greens need a bit of work. Overall with the golf now discount, it was a great deal. Definitely not worth paying the regular price of $120/person. Course was fairly slow. No one on for a while, so my group went on a half an hour early, after hitting a bucket at the driving range. Marshall came chasing us towards the end of the first hole to complain that it was not our proper tee off time. Hardly any golfers there. I understand if course is somewhat busy, but not when really slow.
An afternoon At the Royal Ontario Golf club.
Coarse was in reasonable good shape. Some of the bunkers didn't have enough sand in them. The greens were a little bit torn up probably from traffic and there were the remains of other golfers not repairing there divots. On a whole the coarse is a good challenge for your game and requires coarse management and not just the long ball. I would and have recommended this coarse to anybody.
tough greens
The course was in great shape and really tough to score on. The eleventh green pin placement was diabolical. Overall a great outing that leaves you wanting another chance to play it
Round too long
The course did not have a single marshall out. Several groups were very slow. Round ended up being 5:15, way too long! I have found this with all Kaneff courses on the weekends.
Great course
Practice your putting before, practice your putting before,, hope I am clear !!! Enjoy
Five and a half hour round!
No starter was present and the only marshal we saw appeared to spend his afternoon searching for lost balls. Greens were quick but beaten up by tournament play. Fairways and bunkers were well kept. Water hazard margins are overgrown with cattails and not clearly visible from the tees. This along with undulating and dog-legged fairways yield a course where a GPS is a necessity. Practice range was closed. Design was quite interesting. This could be a lot better course with a few management tweaks.
