Oak Bay Golf Course
About
Carved from the scenic woodlands along the eastern shores of Georgian Bay, Oak Bay Golf & Country Club incorporates rocky outcroppings and natural water features into its challenging championship design. The eastern coast of the bay is one of the largest freshwater archipelagos in the world and is home to diverse flora and hundreds of varieties of birds and fish. Both the fairways and greens are sloped and well manicured. In addition to the many natural challenges, which include trees and ponds, there are numerous strategically placed traps to watch out for. Oak Bay is located less than two hours north of Toronto but its beautiful setting makes it feel much further.

Hole 15, Par 3, If you make it over, green is two tiered! Photo submitted by taz4golf on 10/04/2013
Solid Track
Still under construction but in great shape. Defiantly worth the $.
Only down side was the groundskeepers with no golf etiquette.
course not complete
There is no club house . The proshop is in a trailer in a travel parking area. The course holes are not as such hole one is apparently hole 8 . Hole 17 is actually 18. The only good thing is some of the views . It was a waste of an hour plus drive for what the website preseves it to be
Great course pathetic facilities
Really? No power carts because course was too busy? Don't clean the cart you get, tee off was late because there were no power carts available. Brutal.
Very pretty track
Rough start to the day when there was only 1 person on duty as they had not expected a busy day and were having computer challenges. When we finally got on the course it is a bit confusing as the clubhouse is not completed yet and the hole alignment is not organized. They tell us that the clubhouse is scheduled to be completed next year. Course was in excellent condition and the greens were lightening fast. Pin placements were mostly fair though a few on slopes and sidehills made them very challenging. Hitting into greens was not good as some are fairly narrow front to back and even when you hit the front of the green you went off the back. Some very pretty holes but almost every hole has a large carry from the tee so very challenging for the average player.
Well manicured, beautiful course.
Not a course for high handicappers. Most tees shots needed to be long and definitely straight. Greens fairly flat and easy. Nicely manicured and many scenic holes. One of the best courses in Muskoka area to golf but bring your A game.
Somewhat disappointed as the course was not signed well for each hole direction. Course still needed minor development and club house not competed. Week day and showers so pace was quick.
Oak Bay
One of the best course I play in Ontario.
When the club house will be finish, it will be a must play every year.
Don't go
The GM of this course was playing behind us, took a few buddies for a free round (must be nice, I wonder if he was working..) . He sent his marshals to pretty much escort us through every hole, rushing us even though we were jammed up behind the next group.
There's no club-house: it's a construction trailer where they take your cash and send you out. You have no idea where to go as it crosses streets often. Once you find the starter on your own, you notice that it's actually the 8th hole. The course is played with no logical order so you're zipping between random hole numbers (the starter gives you a "route sheet" telling you which to play in what order).
No bathrooms on the entire premises, no practice facility, but I did see a cart girl twice during the immensely hot day.
Course isn't that challenging - certainly nowhere near to how it's marketed; fairways and greens are in ok shape consideringn how bad everything else is.
When this course is eventually complete, it will be decent for a $30 round. I do not advise playing here until it's complete and if it's posted at anything above $30, it's a waste of your money.
Excellent Value
A tough tight course with fabulous greens. Love the signature hole, but would really like to par it, for a change.
You will NOT find a better course for this price.
Every one of my golfing buddies that I've taken there has raved about it and can't wait to return...take my word for it, they're tough to please!
beautifully manicured
It had rained the day or two before. The greens were manicured beautifully. A little soft but still extremely fast. Better take a few extra balls for this course as the enviromentally protected areas will swallow some.
6 Mile cottager
Pace of play a bit slow but finished in four and half. Greens quick which was nice about a 10-10.5 but as public courses go to many arsholes don't fix their ball marks and some people dragging feet on greens.
They need to get the clubhouse open and get out of the trailer...
Not your average golf course
Oak Bay is a nice layout but not designed for the average golfer in mind. It is more for the mid to lower handicap players to play.
tough but not impossible
WOW, this course is amazing. First off it is in amazing condition, the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars for that is because the fairways had been previously aerated, the bunkers were soaked, and someone had been scuffing up the greens, but the fairways were nice and spongey and the greens were nice and fast but not too challenging and the tees were absolutely stellar (I also loved the cool tee markers). The track however is stunning, I am a short hitter and the red tees (would normally be white tees) were very friendly while letting the holes play relatively short but still keeping the fairly long carries and the downhill tee shots. The course was tight but not impossible because of the fact that I could a hit a 5 iron off almost every tee and still be only an 8 iron away. The rock flows nicely wit the course and is not everywhere. I will admit the bunkers have pretty bad sand but they on most holes they are not intruding in the middle of the fairway and are very shallow. The scenery of this course is great, especially on holes 15-18 with the lake and wetlands coming in to action. I love the par 3s on this course, they are all 6-9 iron in length and atlas 3 are very scenic and interesting... the 15th is really one of the most amazing holes I've ever played however the 10th was my favourite. It's quite unfortunate that you start on the 8th and theres no clubhouse but overall this course was amazing, we payed 45 with a cart after 3 and I think this would be comparable to $100+ course.
Beautiful But Challenging
Course has a great layout and was in great condition
No giveaways
As my playing partner put it
"Bring your A game plus a few balls you are not to attached to"
All good
It is one of these residential courses... But has been cut out of some pretty rough nature.
Picture S holes.
Really interesting holes. A lot of fun.
Loved the course, take lots of balls
a visually pleasing course with lots of forced carries and narrow fairways. Put the driver away and tee off with a 3 wood or take a couple of dozen balls! Fun to play but don't be too discouraged by your score.
Outstanding Gold Course
Oak Bay is an outstanding golf course in excellent shape from tee to green, traps could have better sand. The course in carved into the Canadian shield and most of the holes have large rock formations and more than half the holes have challenging forced carries over environmental protected areas. The par 3 are excellent and very challenging - #15 is likely the best par 3 in Canada, a 160 yard elevated carry over a marsh to a green guarded by rock formations - amazing hole !! A must play course !!
Great Scenery
Enjoyed this course, some challenging holes. Looking forward to playing again!
Oak Bay should be your 1st choice
I've played golf in the Muskoka regions a few times and it's hard to not spend a ton of money. Oak Bay is a course that is equivalent to the over priced courses for a fraction of the price. Challenging holes, level/squared tee boxes, friendly staff and a cost that'll let serious and casual golfers enjoy a top notch golf course.
picturess golf course
Excellent condition. Very challenging. Lots of tee shots require significant carry. Couldn't imagine playing the back tees.
