Carved from the scenic woodlands along the eastern shores of Georgian Bay, Oak Bay Golf & Country Club incorporates rocky outcroppings and natural water features into its challenging championship design. The eastern coast of the bay is one of the largest freshwater archipelagos in the world and is home to diverse flora and hundreds of varieties of birds and fish. Both the fairways and greens are sloped and well manicured. In addition to the many natural challenges, which include trees and ponds, there are numerous strategically placed traps to watch out for. Oak Bay is located less than two hours north of Toronto but its beautiful setting makes it feel much further.

Beautiful Course

Great golf course in great condition. Very challenging for a beginner like myself, but the scenery is well worth it!
Husband and friends much better golfers, really enjoy the challenge.
Bring lots of extra balls!
Have golfed here several times and have enjoyed the experience each time.
It is a shame that there has been no development of the clubhouse, clubhouse is currently a trailer. No driving or putting range. 2 small cages for warmup.
Staff very pleasant.

Challenging but fun

I had a wonderful day at Oak Bay. This course is challenging but if you play smart golf you will enjoy your round. Put your driver away on many of the holes to hit it straight and you will have a good game. I am a female 14 handicap and shot 94 from the reds. I would rank this as my second favorite course after Eagle Creek in Ottawa. It's beautiful!

The best course conditions I've seen anywhere this year

I've played quite a few courses this year with fairways and greens that look terrible and some still are playing temp greens. This course is in unbelievable condition and the greens played somewhat fast which is good. It was a tough course to play as the fairways are pretty narrow and you don't really have much room for error or you'll be OB or in a hazard. I'll definitely be playing here a lot more during the summer months and can't wait to see what the clubhouse looks like when it's finally finished and open.

Fantastic Course

Fantastic Course but very difficult for high handicapper. Made the course enjoyable and fair by playing the red tees. Will go back in fall... great deal especially if you can get a foursome for 29.99 with cart

Great course!

An immaculate golf course in a great natural setting. The tightness of the fairways along with the numerous water hazards make this course very enjoyable and challenging. The club house once completed will be a great addition. Watch out for #15!!

Oak Bay

Great course, BUT no driving range, no putting green and no clubhouse. Seems to be some financial problems, but are promising a clubhouse.

A tough new challenge for Muskoka golfers

We discovered this course last week and it beat me up pretty good, so I had to go back and give it another shot. A 139 slope at 6,000 yards says it all. You had better be feeling confident about your drive on this course. There are a number of holes which visually intimidate you standing on the blocks. The greens were firm and fast and rolled very true with subtle rather than obvious breaks. Approach shots (at least mine) tended to role a fair distance and often off the green if they didn't have good spin. The pars threes are long ( for 6000 yards) and number 15 is the most spectacular and scariest par three tee block I've ever stood on. As a bogey golfer a had a reasonable round of 92. Still I threw some shots away with a subpar short game so I'm anxious to go back and have another crack at this beast. As a bogey golfer, I've definitely added it to my short list (The Rock, Segiun Valley) of tracks to play in Muskoka.

A beautiful layout, very challenging

A very challenging layout. The fairways and greens were in superb condition. I have played the course several times now and have learned to respect the various tee-box distances. Playing the white and red tees with a 16 handicap provides an excellent opportunity to improve your short game and also make for a better score.

Very Scenic, but way too tight!

Great spot, but way too tight from the tips. Play it up from the whites or less to really enjoy this beautiful track. Super service and friendly proshop staff too.

Don't let Oak Bay bully you into a bad score

Oak Bay's extreme makeover in 2011 transformed an easy nine-hole course into a 6,500-yard bully that plays much longer and tougher than the scorecard suggests. I'm not a big fan of a constant barrage of par-4s that require shots over wetlands and ponds, so my favorite holes are its quartet of par-3s. The 191-yard second hole (white tees) rises uphill over colorful wild brush. Wetland fronts the 174-yard fourth hole. Wind off the water greatly affects club selection on the 173-yard 17th hole. Its green sits exposed near an inlet of the Georgian Bay. None compare to the imposing 165-yard 15th hole, where an elevated green sits on this gigantic granite outcropping. Take at least one extra club to avoid sinking in the marshy lake cove. I played the course in 2012 when it operated out of a trailer. Once the clubhouse opens this summer, Oak Bay could blossom into a four-star place to play.

UNBELIEVABLE

I have to say one of the best courses I have played this year. The views were spectacular and every hole was a challenge. Once this place is finished it will be a top place to golf. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We started as a twosome and hooked up with another twosome and had fun along the way. Was worth the drive, thanks for the deal that was posted on Golfnow. Have told friends a must play course.

Great tight course in the muskoka's

Great course. Very tight though. Don't need to hit driver on quite a few holes. Hole 18 is almost unfair. Quite difficult. Hole 15 is their signature hole par 3. Although it is beautiful take an extra club as it is elevated and requires a very accurate tee shot. The only reason why I put that the course was maintained was because they had just punched the greens. Other than that the course was in great shape. Fairways were immaculate and the tee blocks were done the proper way, square and flat! It surprising how many courses don't maintain their tee decks. All in all I would recommend this course as it is a lot cheaper then playing muskoka bay or taboo.

Hidden Gem in Muskoka

This course was in pristine condition, challenging & very scenic holes, narrow fairways & fast greens. Elevated tee blocks are flat & in great condition. If you're an average golfer, you may want to consider playing from the red tees on some holes. Remember, you may encounter the odd snake on this course.

Signature Hole 15, par 3, if playing white/blue take an extra club as you may encounter a headwind on the tee blocks, it is unforgiving. Even if you're not playing from the blue/white tee blocks, take a stroll along the boardwalk, it's worth the view.

Clubhouse is still under construction, but looks like it will provide a comfortable stop before/after your round when finished. FYI, No driving range available. Due to temporary clubhouse (trailer) you start on the 8th hole, so a few more hole direction signs would benefit those unfamiliar with the course.

This course will be highly rated when all complete!

Staff are very friendly & helpful!

This course has great features

You will find fescue in front of the tee deck most of the holes. One of the par three you even have to carry over a huge marshland. It is very beautiful.

Club house under construction so not very impressive but the course more than makes up for it

This course is amazing, what a gem...
Still new so they are working around the construction. A little confusing starting on the 8th but the quality of this course will make up for it.
They should spend more effort promoting it but right now it's a bit of a secret.
Only 1 hour and 30imns from TO and easy to get to off the 400.
One more thing, there is nothing wrong with hitting an iron off the tee when you play the back nine. Trust me:)
