After the rain
After an early morning rain the course was in good shape. For June 75° and overcast is wonderful. After the work on the greens last week they are smooth and fast. Avoid the bunkers at all cost. Water tends to collect there. Staff want to make the experience better for play. Great people. Get out and enjoy a round.
The course looks good
They just punched and sanded the greens and tees but shut the course down when they did it. The greens are already nearly recovered and rolled smooth. Overall the course looks good. The starter was very friendly. Pace of play started pretty slow but picked up.
I had higher expectations
I expect an athletic facility on the campus of Texas A&M to be superior. This is average, at best. Do better.
Great layout, variable upkeep, subpar amenities
The value for the money is solid, and we all had a good time. But no bathrooms, with just port o potties with no soap or running water is inexusable.
I believe the no bathrooms is a tempirary situation, otherwise I would have rated this lower.
Warm now
The temperature is rising, so take plenty of water along. Always nice getting paired up with first time around the course players. Beware the bunkers as following the recent rains the mat is coming up in places. Hard on the equipment and body. Keep it in the fairway with the long rough. Greens are fast but true.
Okay public course
Limited options in the area, so not the best value. My expectations for a golf course on the A&M campus were higher. Room for improvement.
Good public course
Course was in good shape overall. We've had crazy rain lately so it was obviously soaked. Overall the course looks pretty good, smooth greens, nice fairways. Only complaint is the cart girls showed up in the 9th green and 17th when they should really just camp on the back side of the course. The only food in the club house is hot dogs and they weren't ready at almost 1pm when we made the turn.
Nice links course
Fun to play, nice greens, nice links feel!
Only downsize and its a big one...one working restroom on the course, including clubhouse. Porta-potty do not count. Restrooms are being renovated so hopefully soon...
Disappointing Experience at The Golf Club at Texas A&M – Not Worth the $65
This was hands down the worst golf experience I’ve ever had, and I play often. It started with the staff telling me I had to move into someone else’s cart or take a refund—super awkward and not a great start. When that group finally arrived, they had a rider, which apparently isn’t even allowed on weekends, but it was fine for them? Made no sense.
The round itself was painfully slow despite the course being mostly open ahead. We were stuck behind two sluggish groups and there wasn't a marshal anywhere to keep things moving. I asked the pro shop about it and they casually said there wasn’t one scheduled for the day. Seriously?
At the turn, I grabbed a hot dog and chips, only to find the hot dog was ice cold, straight from the fridge, not even close to edible. Bathrooms? None. They're remodeling, but the only option was a porta potty placed right next to where they spray carts, meaning you had to trek through muddy, grimy puddles just to get to it.
And the course itself? Terrible shape. Tee boxes looked like they hadn’t been maintained in weeks—teed-up leftovers everywhere. Fairways and greens were patchy with dead spots all over. For $65, it felt like a complete ripoff. Definitely won’t be back.
Green returns
The grass is filling in nicely, lush and green. Greens are fast yet true. With the recent rains the bunkers can be a handful, so avoid them. Staff are friendly and professional. Enjoy a round before the summer heat sets in. Just saying
Hail storm riddle greens
All the greens were pummeled by hail a few weeks ago. It's like putting on Swiss cheese.
Enjoyable round
I was in town for an industry conference that starts on Monday, 3/30/25, and had some time to kill. I was grouped with a few A&M alum that happen to also have their degrees in Industrial Engineering. They were great group with varying skill levels, so we had a good time. I was disappointed in how damaged the greens were because apparently, few people that play the course repair their ball marks. The temperature was pleasant, but the wind was ridiculous at times. Other than the condition of the greens and the fact that the clubhouse does not accept cash, I would give the course a great rating. The cost was average for 18 holes plus cart. One thing that made it more enjoyable for me, was that it was my 62nd birthday and I was able to play golf.
What happened here?
In shock of what has happened here the last several years regarding the course conditions. I feel bad for the community in this small town. Grass overgrown all over, divots, puddles, etc.
Old Ag ‘82
Golf carts ran at two different speeds. Faster on paths and slow off paths. Cart was two restricted for access in rough. Greens were ok but Tboxes were beat up and fairways had many bare spots. I have played this course many times but this is the worst condition I’ve seen.
Spring conditions
The grass is greening up. The greens are fast yet true. The bunkers are death traps and wet. Not hot, yet. Staff are friendly and helpful. Don't be in a rush everyone wants to play these days.
A great course
This is a very nice course only problem is the greens have divots on them
