Wet, windy and cold made for a long course.
A nice layout with elevation. Greens are in good condition and fast. Apparently this time of year they put a tarp on all of the greens at night.
The course is surrounded by the Texas A&M Campus, highlighted by the football Stadium and the College Station City Hall.
The course was wet, with windy conditions making for a very long course, particularly on a 50 something degree day!
Negatives are that there are unfilled divots everywhere, and many unfixed ball marks. . As explained to me in the Pro shop, most of the golfers are College students. I don't quite understand why college students can't take pride in their college's golf course? Maybe they should be required to take an exam on taking care of their course before being allowed to play on it?
I would like to play this course again during the "dry season" to be able to get the benefit of the "Texas Roll" that is needed to make this course more manageable.
January
To be able to get in a round is wonderful. Staff are great and helpful. Considering the weather of late maintenance staff are doing all they can to maximize play. I appreciate the effort. A note to players, please take a couple clubs when it's cart path only. If you are some distance from cart the pace of play can be improved with some forethought.
Good course but…
It is a nice course. Some fairways needed some work, and they are working on them. For the love of God, get a Marshall, and don’t allow people to play from the Tips when they can’t hit it past 230 yards. My 14-year-old nephew had to wait until they hit their 3-shot to hit his driver. The greens are some of the best I have seen. They are fast, and in really good shape.
Great weather
As always you can work on all parts of your game. The weather though is up to the golf gods. When they smile it's wonderful. The course is in good shape and the work of maintenance is showing. With the recent rains a few wet spots and the bunkers have not dried out. Keep it in the fairway and avoid the traps. Until next time, FORE!
Big comeback from 2023
First time playing this course again since the middle of 2023. In 23, the greens were very patchy and almost to the point of total loss. Now, the greens are in excellent condition, a little firm and FAST. Will defiantly be back.
Played on a cold dreary Thursday
Greens are look good except little worm mounds. They are extremely hard and fast, pretty challenging. The course is looking good and green overall but having sprinkler and drainage issues. I played after rain but it was like that in the middle of the drought. The greens are too hard and fast to land on in many shots but the fringe is so wet you can't land off the green.
Fall
Book this course for the next round. Staff are friendly and helpful. Greens are fast yet true. Fairways with the recent rains are in great shape. A must for the bucket list.
Fast & excellent greens!
The greens were fast & rolled out perfectly. The course was in good condition.
Fall
The course is looking good. Staff are friendly and helpful. The new carts are great and bugs with GPS being addressed. The greens are fast yet true. With all the water being applied to the greens the bunkers are wet.
Great fun and looking forward to next round.
Fix the carts
This course stays busy and they really push pace of play. The carts system have some issues with limiting speed and therefore pace of play. My cart started going so slow even down the cart paths that groups (I was a single) started catching up to me. I thought the batteries must be low. Then all the sudden it started going fast again a couple of holes later. This was going down the cart paths, not in the grass at all. It's like it got stuck in the slow "approaching restricted area" mode. This went on for probably 4-5 holes, no warning on the screen. Suddenly on 17 it started going fast again.
Greens still look great, they're smooth and fast mostly. A lot of the tees and fairways are starved of water I guess to focus on overwatering the driving range and keeping the greens up without rain. Still lots of oversoaked areas and standing water from the sprinklers.
Fall conditions
With the weather being more seasonal very comfortable. Greens are fast and true. Course is in good shape after the summer heat. Some irrigation work in progress, but no disturbance to play. Some bunker are in need of work, but if you avoid them no problem. Look forward to next round. Staff are friendly and helpful. New electric carts are a plus!
Greens look good, much of the course is looking dry
The greens are the best I've seen them there in years. A lot of the rest of the course could use some water or rain. There's soaked spots the sprinklers are leaking or something. Overall given the lack of recent rain it looks good and the pace was relatively fast. Wish they had walking rates or twilight rates.
Cooler
The summer heat is passing. Greens are true, just fast. The new carts are great and the GPS was working properly. Staff are friendly and helpful. Enjoy a day on the links before the time change.
Great links style course!
Friend and I played 18 and got paired with another twosome. Turned out to be great people and played and enjoyable round. We made use of the big open putting green before playing, as well as the chipping area before 1st tee box. Fairways were open and true to that links style. Greens were in great shape and rolled true. They played fast in comparison to when we played in July. Water jugs around course were appreciated and staff was friendly. Looking forward to playing here again.
