Worth the drive
Beautiful area, challenging course, greens in great shape. Definitely helps to have played it before. Staff is great, food good. Would help if they updated yardage makers in the course. They are not accurate.
NTex
Greens have been punched recently but not bad’. They were currently punching the fairways so rough if you landed in a recently done area.
Club house staff very friendly but had to wait numerous times on mowing staff.
Just a note, outside no water on course there appears to be no other COVID-19 precautions.
Pins in play, no kind of mask required. This county has fewer refs though and for the most part you area in the great outdoors on a pretty course,
Aeriating greens
Aeriating greens, course is not playable. 9 holes open but wasn’t mowed. Not enjoyable in any way. Should not be open until maintenance finished. I want a refund or rain check.
On the way up
There is a lot of work being done at SugarTree right now. There is a Instagram page following the progress@sugartree_golfclub. It’s a beautiful course that presents a challenge for all golfers from + handicappers and up
Mixed Emotions
The course is in a beautiful setting with narrow tree-lined undulating fairways. However in the middle of most fairways, your ball lies upon extremely firm mashed down grass because of the weather. It was discouraging. The greens were very nice.
As far as the pro shop personnel is concerned, he was a very polite young man. However...He was not doing his job as far as I'm concerned. There should not be singles going out alone, one after the other. This was insane to me. Group them together to expedite play, regardless of CO-VID. We're adults who understand how to distance ourselves from one another, good grief.
I will not return here in the near future nor will I recommend it. Its a shame because it's a good test of golf. Whoever manages Sugar Tree needs to reassess their policies and make the necessary changes.
"Hard Times At Blackrock!"
SugarTree Golf Course has one of the most challenging layouts of any golf course in the entire Dallas/Ft. Worth Metro-plex, but it just saddens me to see how much they have allowed that course to go downhill. I realize that with this pandemic that a lot of places are suffering somewhat, and I also understand the predicament that the course finds itself in when the Brazos River floods and it causes all sorts of problems for the back nine. However, that being said, the course is still in bad shape and needs to have some major maintenance done to bring it back to its feet. I wanted to give it a higher rating than I did compared to some other courses that I have played, but because of the shear potential that this particular course has, I just couldn't do it. Because of the remote location of the course, maybe its hard to get a good steady crew of workers to maintain the course, but something has to be done before it falls off any further. New people, new management, more people, better management, who knows?? But it's an hour and a half drive that I won't be making again soon and I can't in good conscience recommend that any of my friends do so either. Sorry SugarTree, I love ya, but I gotta leave ya!!!
Save your $$$, and time
I returned to Sugartre for the first time in 20 years. At the age of 50, most likely the last time I will ever make the drive out there. The course conditions are terrible, with the exception of the greens (they are a little above average), All bunkers are filled in with sod, one fairway looks like a minefield, The tee boxes are in terrible shape, as they appear to have been in the same position for the past two months.
ST
This course is usually in great shape, but not this time. Very dry and lots of dirt spots. Not sure why it's not looking good like it use to.
The staff were friendly and extremely nice. The course was not in that good of shape to be paying $59 a person.... still was an enjoyable day.
Would not recommend
For the price I expected the course to be in better condition. I guess the back 9 experienced some flooding earlier in the year and it’s no where close to recovered. Would not recommend this course for the price that was paid.
Tight fairways, lots of trees and water but it was fun. Pretty windy the day I played. Greens rolled fast but tolled true. Go back again anytime. Bring an extra sleeve of balls.
Tight-Fun-Tight
The shot-maker’s layout isn’t as well manicured as it could be, but it’s as challenging a track as you’ll play at 6,372 yards (blues). Are all the sand traps being turfed? Seemed like it. Hopefully course management will shift attention to fairway and rough improvement/maintenance and make the overall experience an even more memorable one.
Need some Rain
The course was very dry. Fairways where very hard and dry. The signature hole by the river is almost unplayable. The greens, on the other hand, were great. If I was just rating the greens they would get 4 stars. The course is difficult but that what you expect a Sugar Tree so there is no problem there. Just really disappointed with the fairways and tee boxes
Sugar Tree
This is the best little golf course in North Texas in my opinion. It’s my favorite course. Almost every hole holds a challenge. Today the grill was closed due to COVID19 but they had a grill going outside. If you’ve never played here, you’re missing out on a good experience.
Great course
I suck at golf and shot like a 112. So I definitely got my money’s worth. Course is great.
Great course/one whole very upsetting
First time playing the course. Greens were in pretty good shape and fast. Great pin positions. Fairways are tight if you cannot control a driver or 3 wood better but your irons good. Really enjoyed the lay out of the course quite a bit of elevation changes. One hole in the back 9 maybe 14 is a long par five, but was playing as a par 3 due to extensive flooding. Wish this was mentioned up front, but this hole has a long way to go before it will be playable. Overall besides this hole loved the course and will play again in the future!
Worth the drive and the money
Incredible lay out and effort from the staff to have the conditions that they have and keep. During these crazy times, means a lot to have a get away and breath in fresh air and not worry about the worlds issue .. thanks to everyone at Sugartree means a lot for a weary Firefighter like my self to have the sun on my face and the wind at my back on the golf course. I’ll be back. Thanks again.
