Beautiful course, great value
SugarTree is a little off the beaten path but is loaded with character and challenging holes. Loads of drinking water stationed around the course and a phone on 9 tee box makes the turn pretty seemless if you want food. Several holes have signature hole water features that are really striking. The best being 12 and 18. Lots of wildlife including (if you can believe it) Tarantulas walking all over the 16th green on one round I played.
Sugartree
Worth the drive 50 miles one way for me but the course and condition are worth it.
Tough course!! Gorgeous
We really enjoyed playing this course. It was in fantastic condition and the waterfalls and features were beautiful. The fairways are tight and narrow, especially on the back 9. Trees are placed in strategic places and the pin positions were very challenging.
The pro shop was well stocked with very nice equipment for sale. The grill area was in need of some remodel but was very clean.
Overall probably my husband and mine favorite DFW Area courses!
friends were impressed
all had great time friends asked where has this course been all our lives thanks great trip, steve
This course has many challenging features
Course has many bunkers that need maintaining.I know sand bunkers require extensive Maintance. If the bunkers are not going to be maintained then take them out. This course is difficult enough without the un-maintained sand traps.
Excellent golf course !
This course is in excellent condition. A good layout, fun to play, must hit your drives in the fairway to score well. Greens are great, fairways are very good, tee boxes could use some improvement. Overall an excellent place to play. You will not be disappointed !
Great
Great course, worth the drive from DFW! Got out right away and played quick! There are some tough tee shots, driver isn't always the play especially if you are 250+ off the tee! But great shape, great greens, no rough, just trees. Had a really fun time and will be back!
Wonderful Course
This course is by far the best I have played in the metroplex. The greens are soft and the ball plays well, not like some of the rock hard greens at other courses. It is a challenging course if you have an slice, but fun to make it play. Over all the condition of this course is awesome. Will play here often!!
Sugar Tree
The course really is in good shape. I enjoyed playing it. However, half the holes have blind second (or third) shots. The greens are tiny, most are long and thin. Par-5s are not long, however the layout requires lay-up navigation or risk to playing over OB to get to the tiny par-5 greens.
A few of the holes are wonky with 90 degree turns, but were enjoyable. I wish the course sold yardage books, however none was available. Pace was SLOW, and with only 1 birdie I shot 74 from the back tees. Card states ~6700 yards from the back; you don't need a driver. You do need position, excellent lay-up skill, and recover ability. Fairways are tight, and most every hole has trouble or OB. Carts do not have GPS, and on this course I think that is a must. I did see sky caddie reflectors on the flagsticks, so that may be an option. Laser range finder a must, but be prepared to scout around corners first as line of sight was typically not available. Greens were average - maybe 7 or 8 on the stimp, but were recently cross-cut, and healed over. In the morning when I played the greens were spongy, and later in the day they were still receptive. I was surprised by the maintenance of the course, not having seen 1 single maintenance worker during the morning. Some of the cups were not cut properly, so a few of the holes were at odd angles (not flat).
Over all I did like the course, and would play again.
Vertically Challenged
I had not played this course since 2003 and that was during a scramble tournament. I titled this review "Vertically Challenged" because not only do you have to horizontally navigate this course, but vertically as well. What I mean by that is even though you are in the fairway, your position may be affected by overhanging trees. Several times I hit tee shots (from the tips) that I felt good about initially, only to find that I was on the "wrong side" of the fairway for a clear approach. That being said, the course was in very good shape. The greens were rolling true at an average speed (even with the recent rains). I hate when I have a poor score because of bad play, but I don't mind a higher score due to a difficult course. This was the latter. I was pleasantly surprised and will make the 2 hour journey again next year.
Tight course
PROS: Course was in good condition and challenging. Greens held and rolled well.
CONS: Scorecard diagrams of holes are inaccurate. Example: No. 9 shows only a few trees on the first part of the left side of fairway. There were trees from half way all the way to the hole on the left side. Limited Parking. Can't evaluate the food, Grill closed at 3:00. After round (5:00 pm) no place to get anything to drink or eat. 56 miles from Bedford, TX.
A Challenging Golf Course
We played in a light but steady rain. We ALWAYS have a great time playing here. The fairways are in perfect shape The greens are always challenging. Thank you Golfnow.com for the great price. It allows us to play Sugarcreek more frequently. The bathrooms on the course and clubhouse are always clean. The people who work here are friendly. I rate this course a 5 ++++ on a scale of 5. Thank you Sugartree for a fun round.
Great Course...
As always Sugartree was a delight to play...the staff is always accommodating and the good is exceptional!! Even though we are in the dog days of the Texas summer the course still looks great!! We will most certainly be back soon...
Great Layout
I enjoyed the challenge the course presented. This layout is one of the best in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Greens are soft and keept in food shape. Long shots (200+) will stop in the green. Best hotdogs!
Great Shape
The course was in great shape. Very few golfers for a Sunday, so felt like we had the place to ourselves. Well worth the drive from Ft Worth.
Sugar tree treat
This is my favorite course to play. It has challenging holes, great fairways and sounds of nature.
Challenging course
Greens and fairways are in good shape. Tough course, but overall great facility.
Very nice course
I really enjoyed playing this course and being able to get a great price with this prepaid tee time. To only pay $18 for the round and cart was nice. The course was very wet due to recent continuous rains, but I was still able to enjoy it. There are a few hidden fairways/greens that create quite a challenge for visitors to the course.
Decent course... tough layout
You cannot see the green on most approach shots which makes for a long round if you haven't played here before. If you hit it straight and short this is your course. I wish I would've chosen Fossil Creek in Ft Worth myself but overall a good experience. I can't say I'll be back though
Less than satisfactory
I won't be returning to Sugar Tree. Problems included less than friendly staff, course overrun with fire ants (yes, I got several ant stings), and the club's willingness to book tee times to groups of five and more. For $38 (including taxes, etc), NOT a good value for your money.
