A great course but flooded
The course is great. The sand traps were not kept up due to rain I guess but grass had grown into some bunkers. The greens were fast and great. Best feature of the course. The tee boxes were disappointing in that they were small and like an after thought. The driving range and putting green were small. Get there early if you want to practice. Part of the course was flooded I understood but we were not told this when we made our tee time and nor were we told before we teed off. Disappointing. They charged full rate. It rained off and on but the outing was enjoyable. The staff was friendly in helping us know when to come and when we could go back out. Overall, an OK experience but for the price we could have played other courses that were not flooded.
SugarTree. Yes, it's worth the drive.
I really wish half stars were allowed. This course deserves more than 3 stars, but I can't quite go to 4.
It's absolutely worth the trip to play this course, even if you're coming from Dallas.
The course was in good shape, the staff was super friendly. It's a fun course, but it's tough. You must drive the ball well or you're gonna have a bad time. Nearly every hole is lined with trees... and once you go in, it's hard to recover. There is enough room for it to be fair, but it is penal to drive it wildly. The greens are fairly complex. Lots of undulations and quite quick.
The day we played there were randomly 3 extra holes in the middle of the back 9... so 21 total. I didn't really understand the point of these holes... they seemed to be repurposed from a par 3 course and did not flow well with the previous 11 holes. After those 3 random holes, it was back to the usual 12-18 and all was well. I suppose you can't complain about getting bonus golf, but we felt it disrupted the flow of the round.
Bottom line: Fun course. Go do it.
Hidden Gem
I first played this course a few years ago. It is challenging with very few open fairways. A good amount of blind tee shots as well. Those are good things as it challenges the average golfer and is not a lay down for low handicappers. Beautiful trees, water features and Brazos river views that never bore. I enjoyed this course so much I decided to move here. It is a bit of a drive from Fort Worth but worth it.
Great course
Look be this course. Always in near perfect condition. Difficult but fair. Gorgeous surroundings.
Fantastic Layout, Conditions, and Price
Found a great deal for $25 tee time on GolfNow for this course. It's off the beaten path, but this course is a must play for that price. Conditions of the tee boxes, fairways, and greens were all top notch. They take great care of this course!
Each hole presents challenges as well. Good variety of water, elevation changes, and dog legs make this course great. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in town!
Interesting challenges
Enjoyed the round. Several blind tee shots. Several nice looks on holes.
nice course
Very nice course. enjoyed the course layout.
Beautiful Course
This golf course is in absolutely beautiful condition. The facilities are nice and staff friendliness is pleasant. The course itself is demanding but fair. Course layout is fairly tight but hitting the fairway rewards you with plush lies. The greens are probably some of the nicest and truest rolling greens in the area. Always pleasant to visit the course and will be back again.
First Time to Player
Beautiful, lengthy and the Beautiful and lengthy course is in great shape.
Will return soon for another round!
Sugar Tree
One of my favorite courses. Tough course but beautiful. Challenging!!
Great golf
This golf course has everything! You must play it!! I had such a good time playing this course. Hills, streams, ponds all make for interesting navigation. I was never bored with any shot. A MUST play. It-a rare find with great conditions. It's totally worth the drive - especially for $14 on Golfnow - INSANE!!!
Great Course
My son and I were traveling to Ft Worth for the TCU-WV football game, decided to play golf on the way up.
This golf course was in great shape, and the greens were excellent. Great golf course for any golfer, being that is just long enough to be challenging yet very fair.
good layout, with numerous doglegs, that makes you think about your shots. Would recommend this course
Very senic and challanging
Need good approach shots, most greens had trouble in front and long was no easy up and down.
Love SugarTree golf course
Great price and fantastic condition along with one of the best layouts in north Texas.
The locals don't want you there ...
All in all an enjoyable round. Round took 4 hours and 5 minutes which included a stop for beverages at the turn. We had a group of 4 locals behind us that got disorderly claiming we were playing slow and that we ignored their request to play through. They hit into our group numerous times. Based on this being the second occurrence of such an experience, we have crossed SugarTree off our list of courses to return to.
A Real Hidden Gem
I had heard about Sugar Tree for years but never ventured out for a round until last week. It was just as described and maybe a bit tougher than I expected. The course conditions were great considering they are located on the edge of where the west begins. If your handicap is over 15 you should bring extra balls! The layout and scenery is not what you'd expect, just beautiful!
Keep the driver in the bag!
This course has narrow fairways with a lot of dog legs and blind shots. The driver is not the best choice on many holes. I really enjoyed playing it.
Course rating
As always the staff and course conditions were great. Greens were fast, fairways are in great shape with the exception of a few spots. ( It's TEXAS). Due the weeks course play is normally at your pace. we had one person play thought, but he was a single and very nice.
Over all great day.
Nice course
Condition of course very good considering hot August. Nice layout with good variation of hole length and difficulty. Greens are still bumpy from aeration
