Could be better
I’ll start off by saying this is a beautiful course with the wildlife, waterfalls, and landmarks. Have played this course twice now, and second time not as good as first. There are too many hills, blind shots, and strangely places tee boxes to make this course enjoyable to play any more than every few months. Despite all the rain we have had, the fairways and tee boxes are going south fast. Most fairways looked like hay, and the tee boxes required a hammer just to place tee in the ground. Greens are still in very good shape as of June 30th.
As far as staff goes, they are good enough, but you
Get a sense of fake friendly quite often. Now to the clubhouse. There is a reason people sneak their own booze into golf courses and this place is it. 18 bucks for a medium sized mixed drink. I will bring my own should I play this course again. Will probably come back in the fall before winter conditions set in. For the hour drive there are too many overall better courses for my money.
Consistent Fun
Great course, very helpful staff. Driving range is right by the pro-shop and beside the 1st tee. Only a few holes where houses come into play. The Scottish Terrier on the 18th hole left side fairway is a machine gun barker, very funny. Hole 14 runs along the Brazos River and is a great view. Depending on the wind, the horse ranch on by the 13th green will get you moving along quickly.
No driver needed!
I enjoyed my day on the course. Started with some range balls and putting practice next to the clubhouse.
There were some puddles throughout the course and on the edge of some fairways. The greens were punched recently enough to see the punch marks on some holes, but didn't have any effect on the putting. A couple of greens had quarter sized bare spots toward the edges of the green, but didn't effect my game.
The fairways are very narrow. Didn't pull driver a single time, but still tied my best score. Some holes seem short, but the dog legs make you take short shots.
It was worth driving over an hour to play at this course and I will probably be back again!
Tight blind fairways
This is a tough course for the average golfer. Blind tees to green. You need to be accurate with tee shots. 5 hr to play 18 with no one marshaling pace of play. Greens were recently punched and sanded, a little firm but not bad. Overall a fun challenge. Short yardage course but tough to birdie.
Great Family Outing
Had a great time at Sugar Tree with our daughter's family. Six golfers from three generations in total. Course was in great shape, weather was perfect and a good time was had by all.
Absolutely Gorgeous Course
Had so much fun playing this course. Absolutely gorgeous course. Better hit it straight l. You don’t have to hit it long. 3wood and driving irons off par4s and par5s
Still Worth It....
For whatever reason, new ownership turned this classic
par 70 course into a 72 and the front 9 has been somewhat bastardized by that. But the back 9 is a pure joy. Wishing that they hadn't lost the landing spot of #14 as that should be the signature hole on the course as you trapse around the Brazos. One of the hardest par 5's in all of Texas. Still...great course. Go check 'em out!
Worth the drive
Seems like a well kept secret. No one in front or behind me all day. Challenging layout and a great value.
ouple of weeks should be in great condition
fairways still alittle rough, greens nice and holding.
Another couple of weeks should be in great condition
Nice Staff, facilities are TIRED
Whatever it is they are charging, it’s not worth the drive.
Good course and getting better
Always a good course but with recent improvements it’s getting better and more playable for mid handicappers. Keep up the work!
Worth the drive?
Tough tree lined golf course.
Fast greens but some fairways need work and care.
Overall a satisfying round of golf.
