#5 approach shot. Cool shot with the mountain in the background. Photo submitted by ryantjeerdsma on 09/24/2013
nice course/good layout
fairways are pretty wide and not much for out of bounds so keeping the ball in play is fairly easy...some holes are long though
The course was in good condition for being summer in Arizona. Each hole was approachable for the average golfer. Some of the holes were challenging getting to the greens. I enjoyed the course.
Favorite Course
Been in AZ a yr and played many courses and til this date still my favorite course.
My only issue is it was 106 on Wed and they have plenty of areas with available water but id still recommend a cart girl.
All good but the greens
The tees and fairways were in fine condition as well as nice and green, so no complaints there. It's just a shame to watch all the putts wobble and hop instead of roll.
I realize that this is not a prime condition time of year for desert courses, but by comparison to other local courses of equal quality, the greens at McDowell Mountain were the worst I've played. They were very slow and extremely bumpy. It didn't appear as though they had been aerated recently, so that was not the reason.
Thankfully we got a good price on Golf Now, so the value of the round turned out to be closer to the overall quality of the course.
Birthday Fun
We had a great time.
We were lucky we could take our time, and had soo much fun teaching a young boy the game.
Thanks for being so nice and understanding with the young guy.
This was a great course and fun to play.
Only thing- we wish they gave a layout of the course in hand before we started to have while we played.
Quick single round after work
Got off work and went right to the golf course. Went off as a single as it was hot late afternoon and played 18 holes very fast with only having to wait one hole which the foursome in front let me play thru. Course was in great shape. Not bad for a 2.5 hour round.
Challenging course!
Great course! Offers unique tee boxes with blind approaches on the front with a more direct approach on the back. Greens were a little fuzzy but in great shape with the recent monsoon rains. Overall, awesome place to play in AZ. Not your average cookie cutter AZ course at all.
Look for Specials and follow a great one's footsteps.
Used to play this course a lot before it became overpriced. That being said they sometimes have deals. The course is in good shape and the mosquito problem seems to have been taken care of. The course is varied enough to make it interesting with undulating fareways and elevations through the valley. Traps are well maintained and strategically placed, sometimes saving a ball from going into a culvert. The views are stunning, especially Camelback mountain in the distance. Phil Michelson did a good job of remodeling this course and it's always fun to follow the footsteps of a great one!
Fun but not optimum conditions
Nice course layout with some great architecture. Some good views. Greens were pretty slow and a bit bumpy. Some areas were bare and mow scarred.
