Look for Specials and follow a great one's footsteps.
Used to play this course a lot before it became overpriced. That being said they sometimes have deals. The course is in good shape and the mosquito problem seems to have been taken care of. The course is varied enough to make it interesting with undulating fareways and elevations through the valley. Traps are well maintained and strategically placed, sometimes saving a ball from going into a culvert. The views are stunning, especially Camelback mountain in the distance. Phil Michelson did a good job of remodeling this course and it's always fun to follow the footsteps of a great one!
Fun but not optimum conditions
Nice course layout with some great architecture. Some good views. Greens were pretty slow and a bit bumpy. Some areas were bare and mow scarred.
Bit disappointing
Played McDowell Mountain on a hot deal from Golf Now. Very nice golf course that is in average to poor condition. All fairways are burned out in spots and greens are baked and rock hard. Like the layout of the course with several interesting and challenging holes. Glad I got a great deal to play but would not recommend spending big dollars to play this course anytime soon. Will not be going back this year.
Poor Conditions
I played this course last year and really enjoyed it--layout is reasonably tough, fairways were in good shape, and greens were nice. Played it yesterday, on Memorial Day, and the fairways were 80% dead, the greens were bumpy, the ground was extremely hard, and the rough was unkempt. Similar to conditions to some of the cheapest courses in the Valley.
Awesome but challenging
Course was in great condition. Greens were challenging with the slopes it has. Defined check your yardage to hazards and so forth. Would definitely come back to golf!
Too Many Other Good Courses...
There are just too many courses in Phoenix to play something like this. I'm not sure if they are going under or what's the deal, but the conditions and the setup we're awful. I know it's transition time to bermuda, but how can you do that without water. On a majority of the holes, you can't tell what is fairway and what's rough. Greens we're burnt affecting putts. Just water the course, every other track in Phoenix can do it...
Today probably 14 of the 18 holes we're cut on a knob or a slope of some kind. Also very few flat lies, from the tee boxes or from the center of the fairway.
To be fair, the staff and course rangers did well. But the course is the reason we come to play. I'll never be back unfortunately.
Course with something for everyone
The McDowell Mountain course provides something for everyone. It is challenging but at the same time playable by golfers of all abilities depending on the tee box you choose. Great service by personable people and excellent facilities from the driving range to the dining facility.
Big guy
Paired with two others. Pace of play was good. Greens were in good shape. Would play the course again.
Excellent value and good test of golf.
Played this my second time and enjoyed it yet again. Friendly staff at check in and the marshalls kept the pace rolling. The layout and greens are amazing.
Fabulous!
Really enjoyed this course! Challenging but not too tough, awesome scenery, great condition. The deal on golfnow made it even sweeter!
Highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice AZ track.
Nice Course
No one in front of us, no one in back of us....went out as a 2-some. Had a great day.
Nice afternoon
Nice course, very friendly staff. Power line going through the middle of the course, tho. Expect to pay $18.00 for a large bag of range balls.
