#5 approach shot. Cool shot with the mountain in the background. Photo submitted by ryantjeerdsma on 09/24/2013
Loved the course
enjoyed the round immensely.. Paired up with another single and a twosome. Very tricky greens, seemed to roll forever and easy to misread. Course was in very nice condition. Will definitely return if the price is right.
Good golf and wet weather!!!
Great price on Golfnow! Really like the layout and design. Plent of room off of tee boxes. Greens rolled fast and true. Only complaint is the weather ...we had sun, wind, and rain throughout the round. It Didnt keep us from finishing. A little tip of advice....some holes play short for long hitters. Had to apologize once for hitting into green side bunker....also couple short par 3s that are really tough to get close with front pin locations. Wedge game must be on!!!
Great track, poorly marked
Great layout, well maintained, professionally and well run. Loved the course itself. Major problem -- no GPS and marked sprinkler heads are few and far between. One of the most poorly marked coursed I've played. Mentioned this in the pro shop and the response was "yeah, we get that a lot". Well, if you get that a lot, you should do something about it. In spite of the overall high quality of the course, I would not go back simply for this reason.
New and definitely improved!
I enjoyed playing value golf at the former Sanctuary Golf Club over the past several years each time I visited the Scottsdale area. The trade off was you played on rock hard fairways and a few holes were squeezed in, but it was a fun course with some unique holes. You could always count on running in to a few vermin as well. When I recently showed up the pro said I wouldn't recognize the place including the name. He was pretty much correct. But the good news is that they retained everything that I liked about the old course, but improved many of the tight holes that had great potential making the course more playable. They also added five star conditions and spruced up the whole facility. The course has very entertaining par fours with a blend of long holes and short holes, and good variety in the par threes. It is definitely a course to add to your line up if you are visiting the area.
Challenging Layout large tricky greens.
Great deal on golf now. Very nice layout with excellent customer service! Played in less than 4 hours. Pick the right tees as course plays long. We played gold and into wind some of the par 4 I could not reach in 2. Large tricky greens very nice bunkers with consistent sand. Overall very nice day!
Excellent conditions, fun course
Impressed with the conditions, great course with some great views. Starter allowed us off early and staff was super friendly. Definitely will be back!
great practice facilities,great course
Very nice course, challenging, but fair, greens are quite deceptive with undulations that are hard to see.
Exceeding expectations
Brought friends from out of town to Mcowell mountain. This was my first time there. From the greeting at bag check-in to leaving the facility, people couldn't have been nicer. Course is in great condition. We played as a foursome at 945 on a Saturday and finished surprisingly much under 4 hours. We saw a ranger about every 3 holes. 2 rangers riding the course kept things moving even though it was cart path only (only 2 more days of that) and windy early. Definitely will return.
Very playable for tee length choices and fairway widths, but still challenging.
Beautiful, rolling course with a variety of differences between holes. My wife and I will play it again.
Great Course
Course was in great shape. We were a twosome and we sailed around the course until we finally caught up with a single on the 14th hole from then on it was slower but we still finished in less than 4 hours. Cart girl was great and gave us cups of ice for our water, she came several times to offer drinks and check on us.
Good day a McDowell Mountain
The greens were extremely slow which is to be expected just out of overseed. Otherwise conditions were impeccable. Great layout. Fun day (I shot even par, that helped).
Not the best?
I was greeted as a "golf now" customer that was given a bad time ..... wasn't the best course to play with electric wires everywhere! Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but I will not be back.
LOVE THIS COURSE
I ALWAYS PLAY WELL AT THIS COURSE, IT IS MY FAVORITE COURSE IN PHOENIX
Awesome day of golf
From the starter to the bartender the entire staff was happy we were there. The course was recovering from over seeding but was still very nice. Highly recommend and will be back soon
McDowell was great - GolfNow was not
First, I must say that GolfNow did not warn me that the course was cart path only. In fact, the printout from GolfNow specifically stated that carts 90degrees was the condition. When I got to the course, they told me the truth.
The course is very playable - the greens were exceedingly slow - just coming out of overseeding - they had not been cut or rolled.
But it is a wonderful golf course - very playable for a 14 handicapper and my friends who were 20+. The staff couldn't have been nicer - friendly, helpful and welcoming.
This is a real gem in the Valley.
Rough Conditions
When we called to be sure they weren't in the process of overseeding, the person at the clubhouse told us the course was in perfect condition for this time of year. Sadly when we got there they were ready to overseed any day. All grass was the same height, mostly dried out everywhere. Best part was the greens, but they were not in the best shape either.
Would have appreciated them telling us the actual conditions before we booked. We did enjoy the layout, but the conditions did not leave us wanting to return any time soon.
Good layout - Greens not so much
Cool location and a solid layout.
Golf course and especially greens were really poor especially for this time of the year when greens are usually outstanding.
So overall a bit dissappointing
