#5 approach shot. Cool shot with the mountain in the background. Photo submitted by ryantjeerdsma on 09/24/2013
Course is average.
Course is very dry for preseed making it difficult to play greens. Play is very slow on back 9 with no ranger to speed it up.
Great Value in the Desert, closer than you think
MMGC is pretty well-maintained, with bermuda greens being the most challenging, but this is the case everywhere during summer months in southern AZ.
It has a variety of tees for every level of golfer (ask for the rated combo tee sheet for even more options) but watch out for the back, back, way back tees on 18...i made the mistake of playing the 4-par at 508 yds into a prevailing wind, instead of from an enjoyable 382 from the back tees.
The only real negative is that our group, first off the tee that morning, caught up to the back-niners for the last 3-4 holes, which stretched our nice 3.5 hr pace to 4 hrs.
Good course - Great Value
I played the course with my son. Course presented a good challenge without being excessively difficult. Only issue for me was that the greens were a bit bumpy, but overall enjoyed the course and the staff was excellent.
I would definitely go back!
Good shape, well maintained
Course is well maintained. There are four tees per hole that can accommodate all levels of player. There were no bare spots on any of the fairways or greens. Fairways are on the tight side but wide enough for draws or fades. The grass is cut too short for my liking but that's a personal preference.
Enjoyed
Really enjoyed our game. Course in good condition greens played better than they looked, true with a good roll although hard to stop ball on. Staff very friendly. Thanks to all
MMR Club
Nice local course with great price deals on GolfNow. Pace of play is very quick during weekdays, under 3 hours. Course is in good condition, greens are soft but grass is patchy and dry on top. Fairway yard markings are few and hard to find. Clubhouse is very nice and food is very good. Staff are friendly.
Fun and Challenging
This is a great golf experience from bag drop to 18th green. All staff is very friendly from bag drop to pro shop to ranger to beverage cart girl running a sandwich from the grill to the back nine for me. There is two great chipping and two great putting greens for warm up or practice. Nice big range. I am now going to come to this course for all my practicing now for sure. The course at McDowell Mountain Golf Club is in great condition and has a great layout. There are many challenging holes with risky shots or you can play it safe. The grass is green and in great condition and the same goes for the greens as well. The roll was true on the greens. Great views of the mountains in the area. There is only water on a few holes on the back nine. I paid $30 to play and this was a great deal. I do wish that range balls were included, cause I do like to hit 15-20 balls before to get warmed up. Overall love the course, great value, and Ill be back soon!!!
This course had a good mix of easy & hard holes.
I played by myself in 2 1/4 hours. Although the greens did not look good they rolled great. I hit my driver about 220 so normally play about 6000 yards (tee it forward!!) but with no big carries over trouble I played the gold tees. Great value.
The course has many interesting holes and views of the mountains.
The practice facilities were really good. They could at least furnish the practice balls (how much do they really profit from selling them by the bag?)
Great golf and very good rangers
The course was in excellent shape as we approach the transition to winter conditions. The staff was very engaging and friendly to everyone. The course rangers did more than just circle around. They communicated the tough message when needed and kept each group informed. Very good crew!
Great Course & Staff
Since the remodeling of this course and clubhouse, it is a perfect place to enjoy a challenging round and have a cocktail and/or food afterwards. Staff is great and will try to help with any problems you may encounter. The course is very well maintained and fun to play.
Great value
We booked a fire special for $22. The course was excellent and the service was impecable. Would definately play this course again.
Very nice course, and new clubhouse..grill and ouside bar is cool
The course overall was pretty good, but the greens were really slow and bumpy. Alot of good challenge exists out there. I would like to play it again when the greens are rolling a bit faster.
Good track
The course was in good condition and played well. Must keep the ball in fairway or you will have a lost ball. Over 700 yards difference between the Gold tees and the white tees.
I will play this course again soon!
Nice conversion to an old course.
Played this course maybe eight years ago and it has greatly improved. Nice variety of layout and distances. Something for everybody. Not a vary hard course but still has it's strong points of interest.
Excellent staff
The course was in great shape for August. The newly renovated clubhouse is an impressive 5-star resort level. What stood out the most for me is the hospitality and courteousness of the staff. Every one there is so nice and accommodating. They also have one of the nicest practice facilities in the area.
Course is in great shape.
Great course management. Never had to wait to tee off. Very good course for ready golf.thx
Pretty Good Condition for August
Course is in pretty good condition for August. Greens are ok & recently airified/sanded approximately 3 weeks ago. Fairways have some bad spots. Hitting it straight is a must for this course. Otherwise, you risk getting some bad bounces off of rocks lining many of the holes or you're dealing with the desert. Those rocks are my biggest peeve because its all luck of the bounce. Finally, for a course that tries to make itself out as elite, they should include range balls without having to pay for them.
Good course just needs the finishing touch
Great course very playable and room for errors of the tee
Great course with nicely maintained facilities
Played it for the first time in August and found the course and facilities to be well maintained.
