Woodhaven Country Club

About
The ever-busy Leon Howard came to Woodhaven in 1969 to build this par 71 6,565-yard layout. Howard’s traditional design features narrow-tree lined fairways, a significant amount of hills, out-of-bounds lining the fairways, and many challenging doglegs.
The best stretch of golf occurs on the front, with a genius combination of holes in Nos. 6-8. The par 3 No. 6 requires a carry of 200 yards to clear the water, and No. 7 takes plenty of strokes to reach the green 569 yards away. No. 8 is a 426-yard par 4 that plays uphill into a narrow fairway.
On the back, the 190-yard No. 17 features a lake along the left side of the hole–it’s one of only a few holes on the course with water.
Getting there : From I-30 east, take the Oakland Blvd. exit and turn left. When you come to Bridge St., turn right and head over to Country Club Lane. Turn left and the course is just down the road.

Poor conditions
Worst course shape of greens seen in quite sometime! I will admit the pro warn, us prior to our start. However, as I told GolfNow folks, this course should not be offered by them unless conditions are spelled out. The pro told us they lost their irragation system last July for two months. Wellllll, in my book, you need your head examined if you are going to be a golf course owner without water...

Follow Up To My Historical Review
I still like this course, but I could be biased due to fond memories of playing for cart fee many times when my buddies marshalled out here several years back.
Let's get the bad out of the way first. The irrigation system bought the farm in June, so the rainy February was a real blessing for this course. That being said there are several areas within tbe fairways that show signs of thinning grass, and others of outright hard pan. Many of the bunkers are marked under construction. Last but not least, several of the greens are quite sandy due to lack of grass in certain spots. Others have several patches of dead grass.
Now for the good. They are resodding the aforementioned portions of the fairways as quickly as possible. The greens, even the worst, still roll even and true. The groundskeepers are very careful to place the pins in the grassier and more generous parts of the greens. They are obviously using what water they can get ahold of to keep these greens alive. They are putting new sand in the bunkers at a good rate of speed as well. It is quality sand too....not that play ground quality stuff or outright dirt Ive had the unfortunate experience of playing on at many of the other local courses.
Does it need help?...YES! Are they working on it?.. YES! Will I play it again? Yes, but I do hope for their sake that they fix the irrigation system soon - before the ravages of another Texas summer do their dirty work on a once amazing course.
Perhaps it should only get 3 stars for current conditions, but Ive played this course when it was in better shape, and I know the real potential it represents. I sure do want it to come back, and I will play it for now. I sure hope it doesnt go the way of The Ft. Worth Boat Club, which itself was a good course whose irrigation system died.
Nice course layout
Really enjoyed playing the course, paired up with member of the country club, the members are really helpful and friendly also,
Looking forward to playing out there again
Hidden Gem and looking better every day
I played the property about a week ago, was in great shape and was very well kept I was very impressed, After the round, I was enjoying food in the Grille and noticed the Director of Banquet & Events talking to everyone. I asked her about hosting an event for my ladies group and she sent over the information before I arrived home to check my emails. Truly, I believe that this course and club is going in a great direction with the staff and grounds staff. It was a great experience all around. I will be back and hopefully with my ladies group.
Such Ashame....
I live on this course and it is such ashame to see the lack of interest in turning this place around by the ownership. The staff is constantly turning over and the new golf pro is EXTREMELY rude and has the attitude that customers are a bother.
The greens are a joke...weed buds growing all over them and it was like putting on a bumper pool table. I basically picked up my ball when I was on the green. Lots of under repair areas. Great layout and could be fun to play but the entire club look "dumpy" and ready to fall apart. WAY OVERPRICED for the experience. Go play at Iron Horse instead....
Getting better
The course is coming around. The owners are doing a good job trying to improve the course.
Course is very poor
The greens were terrible. There were very few signs on the course directing golfers where to go. The staff was friendly. The pace of play was good too. For a country club, this course is an embarrassment. course was very over priced, especially for a winter rate. I will not golf there again.
Buyer Beware
From the minute you pull in to the parking lot you are underwhelmed. Generally the place looks run down. The protective netting around the driving range is torn and falling down which leads to the unkempt look. The greens are in rough shape. Especially 3, 5, 6, and 9. several bunkers (four I think) are played as ground under repair. This time of year it is hard to tell about the fairways but they stood out this summer as a bright spot on the course. The staff is friendly and the food was decent, but who goes to a course because the food is good.
Reading another review the reviewer says the greens are victims of frost. That is not true. The greens began to deteriorate in the summer of 2015 because of neglect. The conditions continued to decline through out the summer of 2016, until September/October, when a new superintendent was hired. There has been some improvement but the results won't be known until this spring.
Another reviewer claims most of the members have died. Again, not true. Many members left in August and September due to the poor conditions. They are alive and well and have moved on to "greener" pastures.
In its day Woodhaven was a fun course with a great membership. Hopefully the improvements will continue and it can regain some of its former glory. For now try some of the other courses in the area.
sad shape
it hurts to see such a great track fall on hard times.even at $36 it was a little over priced
Nice Course with Varied Holes
For an older design the course has a very interesting layout. Although surrounded by houses on the front nine there is still plenty a room to hit the ball. The back nine has less houses and goes down into a valley with some tricky holes. The course is not long from the back tees but still very enjoyable. Conditions are decent. The fairways were dormant, after all it is December, but held the ball nicely. The greens were quick although there were some spots where the grass was sparse however it appeared that the course was fixing bad areas with new grass plugs so in a few months when the grass grows, the green should be very nice. I had the course to myself and played 18 holes in just two hours.
Good old course!
I enjoyed playing for the first time! Beautiful layout and lovely homes on every hole! Greens were good and some had patches where they were damaged by frost last year! Sorry to see another beautiful old country club having trouble because the membership is dying off and the offspring is not staying in the country club and selling to people who don't play!
Woodhaven is far from what it used to be. Worst greens in Fort Worth. Ask about greens before paying $!
Woodhaven CC
This course has been private, and is offering limited tee times through Golf Now. It is only 6200 from the blues, but you need to be accurate. The course has not been overseeded for fall, and a few of the greens are spotty with thin patches or poanna grass. Overall a good course, but not up to the level of Texas Star, Grapevine, or Sky Creek.
Great Golf Course and Facility
I have been a long standing member for 20 years at this great historic Country
Club and recently the club has made the change to go to Semi-Private. I as a loyal
member am not going anywhere but do understand the nature of the business.
As someone that has never played this course before do yourself a favor and
come try out a classic tree lined out layout that you will not find anywhere anymore
due to the way golf courses are made now. A round of golf only usually take us
3 1/2 hours to be able to enjoy the rest of the day. Never have a issue with our
club.
Junk Course
What a wasted day! Just played my first round at Woodhaven. The course is an absolute “COW PASTURE”. The greens are dead and they haven’t watered the fairways in a long time and I do mean a long time (dirt, hard pan) . I really would not call this a golf course and to be say “Cow Pasture” is extremely mild to describe this place. Please do not waster you money there!
Historical Review
There was a summer when 3 of my buddies were marshals/course maintenance guys who serviced the course in trade for free tee times. They would get me on for cart fee. This was right before the almost bankruptcy, several years back, which forced the club to sell to an investor/member who knew potential when he saw it. That is definitely what this course has a lot of---potential.
Yes the surrounding neighborhood is tough with a capital "T"---but that wasn't the case when this course was originally built. All these years later the neighborhood has gone to seed, and the clubhouse and member areas are in definite need of a major spiffing up. From what I've read, that's still the case.
The course, though a little rough, was far from subsisting on life support. There were some rough patches in the fairway here an there, and some occassional hard-pan, but they went to great lengths to maintain some of the best greens in the area.
The layout is truly top notch, so much so that it wouldn't take much to bring it back to LPGA Tour Status IMHO. Yes this course used to host several LPGA Tournaments, and it will bite you in the butt if you go to sleep on it.
There are features here that you wont find on most DFW Courses, and again--the greens are, with a touch of maintenance--tour quality. No dead spots, no concrete landing pads---just nice even roll, and good grabbing power. A little TLC would go a long way.
Rumor has it that the few spots I mentioned are well on their way past the mend, and that the tee boxes are coming back to life as well. The range was state of the art for the time when it was built, but is showing it's age. Still, for a warm up area---what can I say---good stuff.
I will play this course again someday, because it really made me work to break 90, and I enjoyed it. I sure hope it is on the mend all the way around, because DFW needs more courses like this.
Less Than Mediocre
The staff here is friendly but as I have played this course and visited the "off course amenities", I must say that this place seems to be managed very poorly. The carts are never clean. They have a wonderful, very pleasant, 70 year old cart employee that cannot possibly do everything that must be done to ensure a country club experience. He is the ONLY cart employee I have ever seen there. I cannot believe it. The driving range rarely has enough balls to hit. If you plan on playing 18 holes at twilight, it will cost you $55 and carts must be in by 7:30!!?? The surrounding area/neighborhoods had me feeling very uneasy. The temporary restroom at the first par three on the front side was DISGUSTING the last time I played. The mens locker room is extraordinarily HOT. And aside from recent surface and building cleaning the place looks particularly unkempt. Because fees are so high for me as a guest and since there is no discount on fees at twilight and because of all of the problems listed above, I simply will not recommend nor will I return to Woodhaven Country Club.

I had 4 Ideal Golfer coupons to play the course. Unfortunately, due to a pinched nerve in my ba ck I was unable to play. My son and my golf buddies went to play. T Time was 12:30 on Saturday. When they arrived at 11:30 they were advised they couldn't get off until 2 PM, due to a tournament, and that whoever had giv en the T Time had made a mistake! The club would not let them use the driving range since it was not close enough to their T Time. My sonh and golf buddies were not impressed with the professionalism of the staff. They did like the course and would likevto play again under more friendly circumstances.
Having a golf course without a sprinkler system is like having a dairy farm without cows. The reason it took two months to repair was because of a revolving door of greenskeepers through out the summer.
