Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

Great condition
Fairways were in great condition. Haven’t seen them this way in a long time. Going back!
Fun Tight Layout
This is a fun course if you're ready to play target golf for a day. It is a fun break from the monotony that some other courses can become. I wouldn't only play here but I will definitely keep it in the rotation as a break from the norm. The first green was still out of play so there is a temporary green making the first hole a great warm up hole at this point. The starter stated that the first green should be in play soon so that is a welcome change. Pace of play was under 4 hours and we started at 8:05 Sunday morning. The pro shop employees were also very nice in my brief interactions. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing how the Old Course renovation turns out as well.
For a public course it’s reasonably well maintained. Good value for money
Pleasantly Suprised
First time playing the Lakes Course at Firewheel. I was somewhat skeptical from reading some recent reviews, and almost canceled our tee time because of them. I'm glad that I didn't!
There was a temporary green on hole #1 as stated in previous reviews, but not a big deal. I'm looking forward to coming back once the reworked green is playable. Hole #1 is a sharpe dog leg right that goes up a hill and then down the hill to the green. Cool looking hole.
The rest of the course was in pretty good shape. Really enjoyed the layout of the course. Older designed course with elevated greens. Tons of small ponds/lakes and Creeks that lined the fairways. Definitely coming back.
They need golf carts, they have very few and they suck.
Decent course for the money
Played on a Monday afternoon, first green is a temporary, but other than that and a few of the tee boxes needing work, the greens were in great shape.
Course Condition
The Lakes needs to take a break from all the foot traffic. Fairways are crispy greens spotty and chipping is hard panned. At $40 green fee EVERYONE is playing. They closed the Old Course for redo and the same is needed for the Lakes. Number one green is temporary.
Under Construction
Because the other 18-hole course is closed and under major upgrades they overbooked the Lakes Course. Play was so slow that we quit after 3-holes and asked for a refund.
course is coming back
recent rains have helped the course come back to good condition
tough as always
course is coming back from winter conditions, should be in great shape after more rain.
