About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

Course Condition
The Lakes needs to take a break from all the foot traffic. Fairways are crispy greens spotty and chipping is hard panned. At $40 green fee EVERYONE is playing. They closed the Old Course for redo and the same is needed for the Lakes. Number one green is temporary.
Under Construction
Because the other 18-hole course is closed and under major upgrades they overbooked the Lakes Course. Play was so slow that we quit after 3-holes and asked for a refund.

course is coming back from winter conditions, should be in great shape after more rain.
Needs Better Maintenance
There was virtually no difference between the fairway, first cut, rough, and greens. So much so that they had blue paint telling you where those places ended and began. The course could be really good if better maintained.
Sunday funday
Staff was very friendly. Course was in horrible shape in my opinion. Carts were ready about 5 min before our round started. We were waiting about 10 min per hole for the group ahead us. Took about 4-1/2 hours to finish 18 and barely beat the darkness. Greens are fairways played hard and fast. Maybe the course looks better in spring or summer but for winter golf, I’d look elsewhere.
Delayed teeing off
Everything was fine and delayed tee off for frosted fairways..
Friendly staff and weather was fine with the rounds except frosted in the morning.
Course is in absolutely terrible shape
The greens are actually horrible, mowed down weeds scattered throughout the surface make for a nice obstacle. Tee time at 8:15 and finished at 12:55.. will not be going back, way overpriced for the quality of this course.
