Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

Crowd
We had a good day to play and enjoyed the course. Many of the tee boxes were dead and full of divets. The pace of play we waited at every tee box to tee off. There was a group of 7 men behind us playing together and they were not the hold up. It was all the hackers ahead of us. But a good value to play 18 with cart. Course needed a Marshall to move players along. We played the Lakes!
Good condition
Very nice layout. The courses in good shape, the greens are in good shape, and the fairways are beautiful as well.
Great course, Great value
Very demanding from the back tees that you hit it straight. Water hazards are everywhere. Greens are not fast but not slow either. I'd say an 8or9? in good shape. Roll true. Ball holds the green nicely. Check ups on chip shots. Fairways are firm will get a ton of rollout. Highly recommend giving this course a chance. Bring an extra sleeve or two
Perfect condition!
Overall it has the great condition in April in Texas. You will be surprised with GPS on golf carts!
perfect day!
the weather was great, course was tough as always, fairways need about 2 more weeks to be great.
Definitely worth playing
Simply put everything was good. The course is in very good shape; friendly staff. I highly recommend it.
Very Slow Moving
At certain holes, 2 groups waited. No starter not course marshall to control the pace of playing
Don’t bother
Played on Sunday 03/05 as a twosome and was paired with a man, his wife and 7 year old son…but that’s a whole other review.. back to the course, Don’t waste your time or money. Grass is non existent. The entire course was playing on hard pan clay. Pace of play was awful which was shocking since we teed off so early (7:30am). Round took 4 hours and 45 mins. No marshall.. no cart girl…
I honestly can’t believe courses are still charging full prices for these well below par golf courses.
Good Value
The Lakes @ Firewheel has always been a course that eats up my game if I'm not hitting it well because it's narrow in several spots and when it's windy it's even more tricky.
The course is in decent shape for February. Tee boxes are rock hard and fairways haven't greened up yet and there's mud and hardpan if you go wide of the rough, but the greens are receptive, smooth and roll true and the course, which has some pretty weird holes (#18 comes right to mind) presents a harder challenge than one would think at it's price point.
So it's good value for the area and the course difficulty and deserves a shot if you're hitting it straight and want to be challenged by some tough holes. And bring extra balls---there's LOTS of water on the Lakes @ Firewheel!
