Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

Great value!
Can’t beat this course for the price and pace of play was surprisingly good!
Nice course
Both the fairways and greens were in good shape. Fun layout with a few trouble spots but plays fair. Had a few holes where you really had to think about what club to use off the tee. I will come back and try it again.
Love the Lakes!
We play the Lakes course often in the spring and summer. On this day the weather was perfect and the course was in excellent shape. The only downside was the foursome in front of us. We were a twosome and had to wait on every hole. The guys in front of us seemed to be playing a scramble where you play the best ball. On numerous holes we waited at the tee box while they talked and joked, taking more time to tee off. I don't mind if guys have a good time on the course, that's what golf is all about, but I do mind a group of guys who show no courtesy to fellow golfers. Even if they were not going to let us play through they could have stopped talking and chatting with each other on the tee box while we were waiting behind them. We received several notices that we were 17 minutes behind but there was never a marshall to assist us. I assume that Golf course management includes the pace of play. When two senior golfers have to wait on every hole at the tee box and in the fairway for a foursome ahead who will not offer to let us play through, it takes away the good feeling of playing golf on a beautiful day on a beautiful golf course!
Great Track
First time playing this course. Great value for a $36 weekday tee time. Course was in good condition and greens were in good shape, rolled true. Pace of play was alright as the course was pretty full, but still moved along. Definitely will be back to play soon. One complaint is that there was no cart girl.
Good Day of Golf
Course was in great shape. Only issue was pace of play. The group in front of us was three holes behind the group in front of them. It was frustrating. Would be nice to see a Marshall pushing people to pick up pace. Otherwise it was a great day with perfect weather.
Best bang for your buck
Firewheel is a f-ing gem. The old course is great if you want something open but still challenging, and the lakes course is a toughie that plays amazingly. All in all, the lakes is one of my fav courses to play, it's difficult but one of the most fun courses in the area. For the price, you just can't beat it. Tee boxes are fine, fairways and greens may have some half spots but nothing that ruins the match.
Very nice course not such a good weather day
I thoroughly enjoyed playing fire wheel Lakes course. They had a tournament there earlier in the day, and the weather got very cloudy and rained some. I enjoyed the layout of the course the greens were in good condition. The fairways were in good condition as well, and it was just a lot of fun other than the weather issues.
Great for the $!!!
Played here for the first time today and was very happy with what I experienced. Been playing throughout the last 2 months and have yet to find a course that had true, kept up greens. Great price for Mid-day and had a very unique layout. Whooped my butt but as a good course should, 4/5 and with more time to manage this course later into summer will be a go-to!
Good looking course!
This course was super fun and great to play at! However play felt super slowed down due to pace of play. At one point there was 5 groups playing on a single hole!! Aside from that the staff was friendly and nice! Would recommend playing here 100%.
Great Value!
The course is finally starting to grow in and the course conditions are excellent. Give it a couple of weeks and it will be spot on. Challenging but fair golf course. However, no martial in sight for those slow play moments an you might see a cart girl once the entire round.
