About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

Great course
Firewheel is always an outstanding day of golfing! Love the price point and the conditions!!
Firewheel Lakes Review
Played at 10am on an overcast day that was still very warm. The course was in pretty good shape, some of the bunkers were less than ideal but overall the course played well. Played the back tees (yellow) which added to the difficulty but it was still fair. Greens rolled pretty well only a few of them had odd stripes running through them like a mower was leaking fluid or something. I'd play it again for $38 for sure.
Rough was heavy & deep. No cart girl. Would think the pro shop would have told us! A beer or two would have been nice..
Great course!
The course is in great shape! My only complaint is that every time we've played the course there is no cart person to provide drinks or snacks to purchase.
Great Day for Golf
It had been about 7 or 8 months since I last played at the Firewheel Lakes course and I am happy to report that the course is in very good condition. Although I don't get to play it as often as I would like, it is still one of my favorite places to play. The greens were in good condition and as has always been the case, for me,, they putted true to their reading.
Greens need work
Course in good condition except patchy greens and high rough where it was difficult to find your ball.
Great Golf Course
I can't say enough good things about the Lakes Course! Fairways, greens, bunkers, all in great shape..
Negatives:
1. Ball washers are disabled.
2. No cart person on the course to provide drinks, snacks. This made the round even more difficult as the humidity was high and heat was a factor.
Otherwise, great course!
Continues to be a good value
May not have the bent grass greens of The Bridges, but they’re likely in better shape because of it. The rough was a bit on the long side, and it made for a LOT of time spent searching for balls that should’ve been found easily. Rough probably an inch or two too high. Other than a slow playing group in front of us (no marshall to monitor pace of play?), our foursome got around okay for a Sunday morning. Despite it, the layout is good and the Lakes continues to be a good value.
Fast round!
Played solo today in 3 hours, 5 minutes! Tee time was 12:48 but they let me go off an hour early and all I saw was 3 other singles in front or behind me...GREAT pace of play!
Greens are smooth but soft enough to accept approach shots, rough was recently mowed but still long/fair (stay out of it!), fairways are firm but not hard. Tee boxes are not rock hard like some courses.
If you're battling a slice off the tee you'll end up in a LOT of water but if you're fairly straight you'll have lots of opportunities for birdies.
Interesting/challenging layout. Really well maintained!. Great pace of play. I paid a whopping $18---perfect!!
Golf at The Lakes Course
Loved playing the Lakes! Course was in the best shape I have seen it. It was like playing a country club course. Greens were great and fairways were terrific. Looking forward to playing again next week!
Good course
So Firewheel has 3 courses to choose from.
I’ve play the olds and the lakes but not the bridges(yet).
I really enjoyed the lakes over the olds course, the hole layout was great, as well as the overall experience of the round.
Will definitely play the Lakes again.
