Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

Very busy and needs on-course staff
Play was exceptionally slow at the Lakes. On a busy Sunday. i have to wonder why the course staff does not have a starter or any course marshals to keep the pace of play moving. The first tee was chaos and carts were lined up on #1 8 deep. This wiat continued from tee to green on every hole. No marshals to push golfers along or stop them from hawking balls in the creeks and woods. No drink carts to sell sodas or snacks. #17 is flooded and the par 5 now plays from the 150 mark as a par 3. Not sure why, we havent had that much rain in at least a week. Greens are in mediocre condition due to high levels of play and poor greens management.
The couse is a great layout and well matured track so it is really a shame they dont cater to the players more.
Great day for golf!
Excellent conditions and pace of play was perfect. Also, the staff was great and I recommend this course for sure.
Firewheel- The Lakes Course
I’ve been playing all three courses at Firewheel for over 15 years. The lakes is always the most challenging for me and I’m an 8 handicap. Really enjoy the layout, the course conditions, and the staff. Greens were quick, but well maintained. It’s beginning of January so it’s not lush green like the summer, but it’s still a great course that will challenge you. This layout will force you to use every club in the bag. Highly recommend to anyone and everyone.
Great course
This course is a great course to play there's three of them if only GolfNow would give me discounts it would be better I've been playing here in the last 4 years all of a sudden GolfNow decided not to give no discounts I am very disappointed
Frustrating day.
Had a good time with a friend. No issues with the staff. Unfortunately the course was in pretty rough shape. I was disappointed as I've played there years ago and it was fantastic.
What happened to the greens?
I have been playing here for so long that I couldn’t even remember the greens being this bad. It’s like no one fixed their divots and the groundskeepers didn’t do anything about it. The Old Course greens are 100 time better than the Lakes currently. I hope it does not stay this way cause I love this course.
Great course with good challenges
Great course that I have not played in a few years. Staff is awesome. Play was backed up on several holes though. Noticed there was a tournament held on one of other courses, combined with a beautiful day after long week of bad weather made it for a very crowded course.
Typical slow play of public course added to the delay. Decided to actually leave course after 13 since the delay was so bad.
Gorgeous landscape, challenging, and worth every penny.
Seriously, if you find a problem with this course it’s because your game is weak and you should probably stay home so you don’t slow up play. This course is challenging while providing a beautiful landscape for your game. Play from the whites of your game average or less, don’t kid yourself. You can’t beat $40 on a weekend. Not with what this place offers. Can’t wait to go back.
