Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

A Great Layout!
The Firewheel Lakes course is one of the best municipal courses in the metroplex. It is a challenging, fun, well maintained course. The greens were rolling good, great pace of play, and a good price with GolfNow.
Good Day
Other than the greens having been punched recently, the course was in good shape. Enjoyed the pace of play!
Always a great time
We played The Lakes course at Firewheel on Sun 5/27/2018. It was hot, but we had a great time. Despite the heat the course is green all around. Greens were a little slow but very playable. For the price I think Firewheel is the best value in north dallas.
Nice course for the cost
Great folks and the grounds are well kept. Greens in good condition and roll consistent. I would play again.
Good test
Tough course for beginners. Great test for experienced players. Cart girl was friendly and made several visits. I would definitely recommend this course to friends.
Headed in the wrong direction
The Lakes Course at Firewheel has been a hidden gem for several years to me and my golf crew. This year we notice more than a few patchy fairways and really scalped tee boxes. If they won’t keep it up, then come down on the price and it will be worth the buy. Club house is adequate and the staff is friendly. Pace of play is decent. They could improve on not stacking groups so close together.
Challenging Course
This was my first round on this course. Conditions were not completely up to par as the course is still recovering from some flooding that occurred recently. It is still early in the season as well and the grass has fully come back from winter. As the name implies, water comes into play frequently. I liked the course but being my first round, unfamiliarity got me in trouble a few times. Some hazards are not readily visible so course knowledge is valuable.
I think the course could do a little better job monitoring play. I had been paired with another single and we went off as a twosome. As we approached the tee, there was an unannounced single that had showed up, teed off and was headed down the fairway. This wouldn't have been a major problem but that he seemed oblivious to anyone behind him and insistent on multiple mulligans. Fortunately he quit after 9 holes. We paired up with another pair on the back. Pace of play in total was not terrible we finished right at 4 hours though we did wait on the groups in front of us on several holes. Overall it was a very good day of golf and I will definitely go back. I liked the layout and having been around once expect to better now that I have a little knowledge of the layout.
Potential
I am a golfer for 55 years aged 63. The lakes course is a difficult challenging layout but course conditions, particularly the hard and grass starved fairways makes the course difficult to appreciate. My 3 handicap partner and I both agreed that if the course was in top condition it would be a very good track. If you are willing to have tight lies(friendly) lies and balls roll 50 yards into hazards, I say give it a play. Good value
Excellent classic layout
Love this place and it has been some time since I last played. It was overall in fantastic condition. My only issue is that the pace of play is something the staff needs to review and work on. I hope they read this because I understand it gets busy but it's simple common courtesy to think of others. Back to the course however. It is greening up nicely and I will definitely be back. Also the sand traps are in need of some raking but that is on the players being lazy... and they are definitely very well placed. You have been warned !! : )
Pace of play
Course was great, layout was great, good challenge, greens were awesome except for a select couple. Only problem was, when we arrived to the 10 tee box there was all of the sudden a 5some in front of us with no one in front of them. Do we see where this is going? They didn't let my twosome play through; even after hitting a tee shot into them after about four holes of frustration, great shot as well, about 7 yards from one of them. After that hole, we pulled up on them AT THE TEEBOX WHILE THEY WERE STILL TEEING OFF and yet, they still did not let us play through. So a course Marshall would be nice but other than that it was great!
