Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

Great course
Very nice course, people let you go by no hassles from other people, i was playing the mesquite course but took to long plus management stink there .this place very professional
Slow Play and Bumpy Greens
Roll the greens occasionally and Marshall the course. Slow play, groups jumping in, no one polices the place.
Usually play the Bridges side
But I keep forgetting how much fun the Lakes course is. Now granted....you gotta hit some good shots......but when don't you...LOL. Great layout with some risk/rewards. green were in good shape.
The Lakes
Course is very good shape for the amount of play it gets, lots of fun and challenging holes. Greens were in good shape as well. It is worth putting in your rotation if like to play different courses around town and won't break your budget.
Greens are great, layout very difficult
This is a great public course and very inexpensive. The layout is exceptional and if you can't hit it straight, lots of water will take your ball. The greens on this course are the best of the three at Firewheel.
Nice course to play
The course was in very good shape. It's challenging and definitely worth playing. I will play it again for sure.
Value for Money
I have played few rounds at Firewheel Lakes Course. Its fun always! But the pace can be really slow especially if playing on Friday afternoon. The afternoon tee time prices are not much (less than 20$ with the cart) hence lot of people and if you are stuck behind a slow moving foursome, then God bless you!! However, the course is in good condition! Back 9 is little more challenging than the front 9. You will be tempted to drive all the way to the green, but watch out for creeks and lakes!! Overall, I would recommend this course!!!
Last Time Will Play Here
Extremely slow play, no marshall, people cutting in on 10 that did not play the first nine. Guy with two little kids playing holding up everyone (sure he didn't pay for them, they were yelling thowing water cups etc. etc.) and he did not care there were multiple groups behind him waiting.
FIVE HOUR ROUND
LAST TIME I WILL PLAY THIS COURSE.
Slow
played with 2 other guys and it was the slowest round this summer, no ranger to enforce pace or anything. Took us over 5 hrs for 18..
Slowest round of golf
Nearly 5 hour round of golf. No one enforce pace of play. Waited to hit on every tee box. Pathetic.
Great Day
The course was great. I got there 30min early and things were slow so they let me pair up with three young men.and I had the best time. I just wanted a little practice. And I ended up having a fun 18..
Great Course
Beautiful course trees and lakes excellent condition
Thank god a course with greens instead of yellows
I grew up playing Firewheel but it's been a good 10 years since I've played there. Especially the old course side. A friend got a coupon so I reviewed the course layout and it brought me back to my younger days. I forgot they redid the Lakes course and made it go across Brand. Great course layout. Course is tough, especially if you are just starting up again like I am. Course condition was pretty good. Fairways were nice and you could stop your ball on the greens with your second shot. Greens were slow for putting but I remember Firewheel always being like that. I can't remember if the old side has bent grass greens or not. I don't know if I would pay $40 to play the Lakes or Old course but I would pay $30. I'll get a golf now rate and definitely go back. One of the better courses I've played in the last few months.
Good Course
Actually we played the Old Course because the Lakes cart paths were flooded in some areas.
Wife and I played. Both us enjoyed the experience and will be back.
Great experience
We played post rain and the course drained well, was well manicured and pace of play was fine. The greens were a bit slow and not due to rain. Just hadn't been cut in my opinion. We will be back
