Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

Last Time Will Play Here
Extremely slow play, no marshall, people cutting in on 10 that did not play the first nine. Guy with two little kids playing holding up everyone (sure he didn't pay for them, they were yelling thowing water cups etc. etc.) and he did not care there were multiple groups behind him waiting.
FIVE HOUR ROUND
LAST TIME I WILL PLAY THIS COURSE.
Slow
played with 2 other guys and it was the slowest round this summer, no ranger to enforce pace or anything. Took us over 5 hrs for 18..
Slowest round of golf
Nearly 5 hour round of golf. No one enforce pace of play. Waited to hit on every tee box. Pathetic.
Great Day
The course was great. I got there 30min early and things were slow so they let me pair up with three young men.and I had the best time. I just wanted a little practice. And I ended up having a fun 18..
Great Course
Beautiful course trees and lakes excellent condition
Thank god a course with greens instead of yellows
I grew up playing Firewheel but it's been a good 10 years since I've played there. Especially the old course side. A friend got a coupon so I reviewed the course layout and it brought me back to my younger days. I forgot they redid the Lakes course and made it go across Brand. Great course layout. Course is tough, especially if you are just starting up again like I am. Course condition was pretty good. Fairways were nice and you could stop your ball on the greens with your second shot. Greens were slow for putting but I remember Firewheel always being like that. I can't remember if the old side has bent grass greens or not. I don't know if I would pay $40 to play the Lakes or Old course but I would pay $30. I'll get a golf now rate and definitely go back. One of the better courses I've played in the last few months.
Good Course
Actually we played the Old Course because the Lakes cart paths were flooded in some areas.
Wife and I played. Both us enjoyed the experience and will be back.
Great experience
We played post rain and the course drained well, was well manicured and pace of play was fine. The greens were a bit slow and not due to rain. Just hadn't been cut in my opinion. We will be back
SLOW PLAY- Ineffective marshal
They let a 5 some play and we and three other groups caught up with them on hole 8. it was 20 minutes per hole. The 5-some played from the back tees and we're terrible. When we told the marshal he did nothing besides drive off never to be seen again. Clubhouse did nothing either. The two groups in front of us stuck it out but we and a group behind us left after the 10th hole.
Ruined a nice day and wasted our money.
Wow!
Beautiful course! Except for some left over animal droppings on one tee box, everything was awesome. Only $30 too which was great. Fantastic time!!
Awesome course!
Great course! Greens were in great shape and just a beautiful layout! Recommend firewheel to anyone!
greens painfully slow
I like this course a lot but they have got to get the greens rolling with some speed, they are horribly slow. The course otherwise looks great, and appears undamaged form the recent storms.
Great course with too much water
Had a very early 7:42 am tee time. The course was in great condition from tee box to greens, with only one small problem. They had watered the course earlier and it was more of less water logged. At first I thought they must have gotten rain overnight, but I asked a marshal and he stated they had watered the course. Seems kind of odd since we had rain in the forecast for that evening. Regardless, the course is really nice, I would just advise playing in the afternoon to let it dry out some.
Good day of golf
Course is in better shape now. It is just difficult to play in 15-20 mph winds. My first time playing with 2 lefties.
Amazing!!
This course was in excellent condition. Greens played true and made for an entertaining day for my group. Course was packed for Good Friday and pace was slow on a few holes but the Marshall did excellent by staying in touch with everyone. The fee was great to top it all off. Keep up the great work!!!
Course in great condition, I will play again!
I played on 4/15/17 and was very pleasantly surprised at how nice the course was. Friends had raved about the other two Firewheel courses (Bridges and Old Course) so I did not have very high expectations for the Lakes. Everything was in great shape, fairways and tee boxes, putting greens were in great shape. The course is beautiful, lots of water. Overall a very good value for the price. Some challenging holes. I will definitely be back.
The staff was friendly and helpful, carts are in good shape. We saw a lot of walkers as well.
Challenging course if you are aggressive. Lots of water but it's not overwhelming. Even for high hidicaps. Green are true. Unfortunately I played when the wind was 25 MPhil. Must play it again soon.
Great golf course
Some areas need attention, but overall,it's a fantastic golf course.
