Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

Good course but not worth the money
Greens were very slow and patchy. Very narrow course at times but that can add or takeaway based on the golfer. The layout is a little confusing as well, I doubled back a lot to find the right way. Thank goodness people let me play through because the pace of play was horrendous. Overall a somewhat pretty course that’s narrow, has slow patchy greens, and a confusing layout. I wouldn’t play here unless there’s a tee time under $30.
course requires ball placement and stategies
Always enjoy playing the Lakes course, it offers variety of challenges.
Good Course but lacking maintenance
many grassless patches on the fairways, greens very slow,
Nice layout. Good conditions
I haven't been to FW-The Lakes in a very long time but we had a great time. Course was in good shape and the layout was fun. The round took longer than we wanted but we will go back.
Good Value
This was an upgrade in condition over Duck Creek, Riverchase and even Waterview, which is better than the previous two. It was in good shape for a public course. No complaints.
Jeff the Gatekeeper
Steer clear of Firewheel, at least the old/lakes side, unless you enjoy being treated like a piece of trash. One of the pro shop guys, think his name is Jeff, should be ashamed of his behavior. His actions reflect poorly on the entire establishment and leave a lasting impression of hostility and disrespect. He was definitely on some sort of stimulant. But, it was clear as day that he's less interested in assisting customers, and more interested in flexing his authority. You work at firewheel buddy. This isn't life or death.
Great shape
in great shape considering all the rain/wind and now heat we're having.
greens were firm, in good shape but weirdly were slower than they looked.
played in 4:19
Amazing course
This course was awesome I would play this course again no problem!! I can’t wait to get back out on this course. Greens were great fairways were great layout was fun and challenging!
Good for the price
43$ after tax for a 11:00 tee time on a weekday is about what I expected, maybe cheaper. Greens in good condition, layout always great, some damage along a few fringes. Overall good time. 4 hours pace of play
Moved Us To Old Course - Their Own Problem
For the money, your courses are in great shape. However, my issue is with management. We booked the Lakes course as I like it better and heard it was in phenomenal shape. When we arrived, the young man at the counter apologized and said they double booked and we moved to the Old Course. It wasn't his fault, that's managements. HOW do you mess this up? It seemed like they had a tournament or something but the Lakes course had very few people on if any. When you make a mistake in business, you suffer. Don't let the paying customer suffer. Figure it out.
Phenomenal Golf Course
This course was awesome. Very fun and great layout! I would play this course again 100% and will play this course again!
Always a great course
I'm always impressed when I bring my group down to play at any of the two courses there. Thank you for always making it worth coming down.
Best Course for Value
Course is $31 after 3:00 and it’s in great shape for the price. Challenging layout, but fun to play. Bunkers need a little work, but I think that’s from all the rain we’ve had recently. Overall great course. 4.2/5
Very slow pace
We started at 1:30PM and we did finish at 6:30PM, we had three groups in front of us playing very very slow, seems like they feel they were the owners of the course. Last few times I played here I ended up spending way more than 5 hours for 18 holes. I love the course but it's really hard for me spending more time waiting than playing, I hope they pay more attention to the people playing so game becomes more enjoyable for all of us and not just for some few.
