Firewheel is Texas’ most impressive example of municipal golf. Owned and operated by the city of Garland, and extremely popular because of the fair price and number of available golf holes, Firewheel now sports 63 holes since the new Bridges course opened in the past few years. All three tracks can be challenging because they each incorporate a variety of hazards into their designs, including limestone that is scattered throughout the property.
The Old Course, the traditional layout, was rated No. 1 by the Dallas Morning News. Water hazards come into play throughout the design, such as on hole #18, a 400-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot and an approach shot over the same creek, which winds through the hole. Hole 9 is the feature hole, a 552-yard par 5 that rolls downhill. The tee shot is into a narrow landing area carved out of trees, and on the approach you must be in perfect position because of the strategically placed pecan trees. Number 18 is challenging with both the tee shot and the approach over a creek that winds through the hole.

Great course, great value.
Fun course. Pace of play was slow, but given it was a holiday weekend it was perfectly fine.
Great value for the course and the amenities.
Would definitely recommend and play here again. Need to try the other course Firewheel has to offer!
Old is reliable

Great Course for the money
Firewheel Old Course is celebrating its 40th anniversary and despite its age it still plays well. 10 years ago this course was rough and needed a ton of TLC and I am happy to report it has gotten it. The maintenance staff is doing a fantastic job repairing and reseeding tee boxes. They are taking out trees that have died and blown over it really is a good course and I prefer it to the Lakes course next door. The staff at the course is friendly and kind in my mind they really help make the experience great. I would recommend this course to anyone.
Course is in good shape. Greens were good, played in a little over 4 hours, only $45 on a Saturday morning. I'll be back
Bring 2 pairs of shoes
This place loves making you play in the mud even on sunny weeks. This is by far the muddiest course in DFW. Bring plenty of towels!
Decent Quality
Not bad for this time of year. Greens rolling consistently except for hole 9. An animal clearly dug it out in a few areas. Fun layout, challenging. Cannot hit driver on every hole, some require precision. Other just tee it up and let loose because there’s another fairway to bailout in. I wasn’t in the bunkers, but they weren’t raked probably because of the recent rain we had, they looked a little wet, but average for comparable courses in the area. Tees boxes were bare in some areas, but flat which is a plus for public courses imo. Fairways were pretty average and bare in some areas as well, but comparable. Overall a good experience for the price. Would recommend to a friend. Photo is of hole 18 fairway to green
The course layout was Good and the staff was excellent!
I would play here again. My granddaughter played with me. This was one of the courses her high school played sometimes
