Old at Firewheel Golf Park
About
Firewheel is Texas’ most impressive example of municipal golf. Owned and operated by the city of Garland, and extremely popular because of the fair price and number of available golf holes, Firewheel now sports 63 holes since the new Bridges course opened in the past few years. All three tracks can be challenging because they each incorporate a variety of hazards into their designs, including limestone that is scattered throughout the property.
The Old Course, the traditional layout, was rated No. 1 by the Dallas Morning News. Water hazards come into play throughout the design, such as on hole #18, a 400-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot and an approach shot over the same creek, which winds through the hole. Hole 9 is the feature hole, a 552-yard par 5 that rolls downhill. The tee shot is into a narrow landing area carved out of trees, and on the approach you must be in perfect position because of the strategically placed pecan trees. Number 18 is challenging with both the tee shot and the approach over a creek that winds through the hole.

Fun Layout, Greens were Rough
Had a lot of fun playing this course for the first time. Very green fairways and lush rough, greens were burnt out on parts of most holes but didn’t really matter too much, overall great value and had a lot of fun. Definitely be back to play again and try the Lakes Course as well.
Greens struggled
Greens are struggling and no one was checking to keep pace of play up as had to wait at every hole on the backside.
Fairways and tee boxes were in good condition. The greens on the other hand need some love, bumpy and spotty, a few pin positions were placed on the crests of slopes and on the sides of hills. Overall would definitely play here again.
Fast is fun
I was able to get off a little early and played the front nine in less than an hour. The course had three groups that let me play through. Very friendly and cordial people. Course was in good shape though a couple of greens were struggling. Played the whole round in 2 hours and 10 minutes.
No Drinking water on the course
The temp was over 90 and there was no drinking water on the course. I know that all the courses quit providing this when Covid was an issue. That's not the case now and most courses are back to providing it. I can only guess that Firewheel just got used to not doing this and management hasn't pushed it. Water at these temps is a necessity not a luxury.
Great Experience!
My 14-yo grandson and his friend played this course for the first time. They really enjoyed the course. It was challenging, but great for young players.
Nice local course
Greens roll true and in decent shape. Wide fairways. Sand traps could use some new sand and more of it. A fair amount of water on the course but not much comes into play. Some tee boxes could use some TLC. Overall a good course, classic design, good pace of play (4 hr round) and good value for $22 with cart included.
Very friendly
It was our first time playing this course and the staff was very friendly.
It was a rainy day but we got to play almost the whole course. It started pouring down more rain and we had to leave.
Excellent customer service
I would like to thank Corey for the excellent customer service given
Always fun
The course was in great shape even after 2 straight weeks of rain. rain.
Fun round
Really like this course. Some difficult holes and some that you can attack. Plenty of room off the tee which I like. Greens were very smooth.
Always a good pace of play on weekend mornings.
