Old at Firewheel Golf Park

About
Firewheel is Texas’ most impressive example of municipal golf. Owned and operated by the city of Garland, and extremely popular because of the fair price and number of available golf holes, Firewheel now sports 63 holes since the new Bridges course opened in the past few years. All three tracks can be challenging because they each incorporate a variety of hazards into their designs, including limestone that is scattered throughout the property.
The Old Course, the traditional layout, was rated No. 1 by the Dallas Morning News. Water hazards come into play throughout the design, such as on hole #18, a 400-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot and an approach shot over the same creek, which winds through the hole. Hole 9 is the feature hole, a 552-yard par 5 that rolls downhill. The tee shot is into a narrow landing area carved out of trees, and on the approach you must be in perfect position because of the strategically placed pecan trees. Number 18 is challenging with both the tee shot and the approach over a creek that winds through the hole.

Old courese
got a great deal from Teeoff and the course was great on perfect day
Greens were okay however the course has many issues. Looks like they did not manage the course. Felt like I was playing in the dessert out west Texas
Great Value
Enjoyed playing this course with the good deal option from GN!
Great course and great value
The old course is a super challenging course but for the money you cant beat it. The city has put money into the facility anf the staff does all they can to makr you feel welcome. The only thing I would add is a marshal on the weekends.
The Old Course
The greens are in great shape. With the weather I wasn’t surprised that the fairways weren’t in great shape. I like the way it’s laid out. We enjoyed playing it a lot.
Not impressed
The course was mostly dead. A lot of bare spots. Greens were fairly decent compared to fairways and rough. Sand traps were ridiculous and like hitting off hard pan.
HORRIBLE CONDITIONS
This was by far the worst conditions I’ve seen in TX! Fix the sprinkler system or you will loose this course entirely. So dry everywhere there was limited grass anywhere except T boxes and greens! Bunkers were terrible, grass growing through the DIRT & not raked anywhere!
I honestly only played to get a practice round for the PAT next mont. I can’t believe the PGA would host this event on this course in these conditions! If I could give ZERO stars I would!
A fantastic value for the money.
What I am about to say goes for all three courses Old/ Lakes/ Bridges. I have been playing at all three since 2014.
The staff at all three locations are fantastic. The Old / Lakes club house is a little older but the city has put money into and its really looking great. The Bridges course is more modern with better practice facilities but you cant go wrong with either one. The Lakes and Old course are in great shape but the greens roll slightly slower than the bridges. Considering the TERRIBLE shape other public courses like Twin Creeks, Ridgeview ranch and Woodbridge are in this place is a gem. Unlike those others all the greens are open and well trimmed. All the tee boxes are in great shape. A real hats off to the greens staff at these two facilities.
