Old at Firewheel Golf Park
About
Firewheel is Texas’ most impressive example of municipal golf. Owned and operated by the city of Garland, and extremely popular because of the fair price and number of available golf holes, Firewheel now sports 63 holes since the new Bridges course opened in the past few years. All three tracks can be challenging because they each incorporate a variety of hazards into their designs, including limestone that is scattered throughout the property.
The Old Course, the traditional layout, was rated No. 1 by the Dallas Morning News. Water hazards come into play throughout the design, such as on hole #18, a 400-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot and an approach shot over the same creek, which winds through the hole. Hole 9 is the feature hole, a 552-yard par 5 that rolls downhill. The tee shot is into a narrow landing area carved out of trees, and on the approach you must be in perfect position because of the strategically placed pecan trees. Number 18 is challenging with both the tee shot and the approach over a creek that winds through the hole.

Out of Control
No Starter might cause the turmoil? Usually the starter controlled but somehow there was no Starter and 2 players sum waited a single player sum ahead and mannerless players didn't let join for faster play. So it took over 5 hours! Combination of lack of field control and some players of courtesy less made the worst course.
Always good to play
Not much busy and 90 degrees cart path.
Enjoy round of golf with new friends at courses and enjoyable weathered...
No Control
I played here quite often about a year. But last time there was no starter and perhaps due to that my front was two people but just one was playing and his front sum was 2. I know because from 1st hole, I waited quite a while watching my front cart waiting middle of the fairway his front on green. When I went to 2nd hole, my front guy didn’t offer me to join and just complained his front sum’s slowness. I skipped 2nd to join the 2nd front two who suggested their front sum of 3 who reluctantly let me join after skipping two holes. Took almost 5 hours. I will never return to the course.
Firewheel Old Course
WE had ideal weather for February 1st. However, the conditions were not as good as the Golf Now website indicated. The fairways were quite bare in spots, and the ground was pretty hard, so it made the clubs very unforgiving. The green were quite fast, so it too made putting a little getting used to conditions.
It's February in Dallas, TX, so I feel fortunate we have playable conditions, so I'm grateful
Good option
Very good value for money and the course was maintained well. Greens were in good shape and fairways were mostly well groomed. Not overly challenging and a good layout.
Great Value
This was my first time to play at this course and it was very enjoyable experience. The course was well taken care of. Only feedback is that the leaves be blown off of the greens but other than that great course.
Olde Course
Practice options for a public course were very good. They have 3 courses and I played the Olde Course. It was awful. Fairways were mostly bare with sparse patches of a multitude of grasses. Greens were pretty good and had some challenging undulations. The condition of the course in general was so bad I will never even consider playing it again.
Pace
Really just need the staff to speed up the few groups that ruin it for everyone else. If a groups can’t finish in 4 hours on their own with a cart they shouldn’t be playing golf.
