Course in Fair shape
Have played this course in the summer and it was much better than. Today The greens were in bad shape. They had top dressed the greens and there were many ball marks on the green. The fairways were in fair shape. The play was very slow. We had a group in front of us that was very slow. I called the clubhouse to complain and was told they don't have enough people to come out and check. Wait until April to play this course.
Excellent Value, Hidden Gem
Played for the first time. Tucked away off Route 301 near Lake Presidential. Terrific track, mature, well groomed, nice visuals. Great combination of tight and open driving lanes. Can't wait to play it again and apply some strategic shot making.
Recommend you call ahead
When I showed up for my round Friday morning, there was a tournament taking place on the course. There was no parking and they were having trouble providing carts for upcoming groups. When I arrived at #1 tee I was told I was being paired with the foursome ahead of me and that they needed my cart (that I’d just paid for). Long story short, the guy in the clubhouse was able to find another tee time for me later but I would suggest that if you’re new to the game and/or not comfortable playing with strangers you call ahead.
Nice layout
Greens were slow and bumpy need care. Many unfixed ball marks , rough uneven. Some bunkers need sand
Great course!
Great course, great layout and great customer service.
Great Course
It was raining when I went so it was a bit swampy but regardless, an absolute beautiful course with plenty of nature and great holes. Probably the best course I’ve been to. Do recommend
Excellent golfing experience
Highly recommend Oak Creek for anyone who has not played it. Challenging but fair layout, and course is in pretty good condition which is usually the case.
Pace of play is abysmal, will not return.
Loud group in front , 6 man group in front, too many unrepaired ball marks, no sand in carts, Marshall is around but didn’t help pace, houses in play every hole, long drives between holes, pace of play horrendous, course is not forgiving, no ball cleaners, no yardage markers, can’t use driver on range, they don’t sell long tees, 1 hole had 11 golfers, too many security check points through neighborhood, similar to cross creek GC, tee boxes were very hairy. Playing partner had many drop kick drives due to Bermuda. 2some in front left after 9 due to pace.
Positives: fairways are nice, rough decent. Shot makers course.
Not a good experience
First off, the tee boxes, fairways, and rough are in decent shape. However, greens are in terrible shape, with pitch marks everywhere. There aren’t any ball cleaners on any holes, one of the coolers was out of water on a 90 degree day, there was a group of six in front of us and Marshall said they weren’t the issue it was the group in front of them. Only four of the six were playing but the fact that they let a group of six stick together and socialize is annoying because ultimately that slows down play. Also, no sand in carts. Took about 5 hours to finish round. Well be taking our money to Lake Presidential next time we play in the area.
Great track ruined by management and pace
I’ve played Oak Creek many times, though this was the first time in about 18 months. I really enjoy the layout, and at times in late summer the conditions can be great. I had sort of forgotten what kept me away last year until I returned last weekend, though: the folks running the golf operations seem completely incapable of getting groups out on schedule in an organized fashion and are utterly indifferent to pace of play.
I booked a 7:30 tee-time on Sunday for two players. I arrived around 7:10 and checked in at the pro shop, paid my greens fee, and got ready to head for the starter. The gentleman in the shop gave me no indication that there was anything unusual going on, that there would be a delay of any kind, etc. I rolled down the hill to the starter and saw a backup of probably eight carts clustered around the first tee. When I checked in with him around 7:15, the starter seemed completely exasperated, didn’t know who our twosome would be paired with or what time we’d go off, but said they were running 25 or 30 minutes behind. (How can a golf course be running 30 minutes behind at 7:20 in the morning when the first tee time of the day was at 7?) He graciously offered to bring us a small bucket of range balls and said we should check in with him again in about 20 minutes. When we did, he seemed frustrated by our question, saying “I told you we’re running behind schedule.” Sure, and you also told us to come back in a while, and it’s 7:45, and our tee time was 7:30. Eventually our twosome was combined with a threesome that had been scheduled to tee off immediately behind us, which was no bother to me, and we got going about 7:55.
We then proceeded to wait on every single shot until the 17th hole, when the foursome in front of us briefly picked up their pace enough that we were able to play one shot immediately upon arriving at the tee. (Not to worry, we were waiting again by the approach shot, and on both shots on the 18th.) I remind you that our group was a fivesome that included three mid-handicappers and two players who didn’t break 100—and we were still waiting on a foursome, to the tune of a 2:45 front nine and a five and a half hour round.
On a number of occasions course employees drove past our group on the course, and we had to make a point of asking about the pace, and whether anything could be done to speed things up. Three times we were told “yeah, we’ll say something to the group in front,” though on at least one occasion the course employee also said “but they’re members, so...” I’m not sure whether anyone said anything or not, but there was no appreciable effect.
The golf course is good. It was a little wet thanks to rain the night before, so it was cart path only (which seemed unnecessary by the hot and dry back nine, but I’m not going to quibble about that). The condition of the fairways and greens is as good as I’ve seen in three years of playing this course, and some recent tweaks to widen fairways and eliminate waste bunkers have improved what was already a very good layout. It’s a shame that I couldn’t in good conscience go back to this place with any confidence that I could come and go in less than six hours.
This is clearly a management problem. Why are you half an hour behind only half an hour into the day? Why does the starter not know who is going off with who, when there ought to be a tee sheet with groups scheduled every ten minutes? Why is no one in the employ of the golf course interested in ensuring that players’ time is respected, perhaps by speaking to players who are causing a bottleneck and asking them to speed up or allow other groups through? Why doesn’t the pro shop mention that we’ll be teeing off half an hour late BEFORE taking my money? Why not offer me free range balls at check-in as a courtesy, to help convince me it’s worth waiting? Why do golf operations seem like an afterthought to the club’s extremely well-publicized Sunday brunch? Why is this not the first time I’ve showed up at this golf course with a tee time, checked in and paid, only to learn from the starter that there’s some confusion about when I would tee off and with whom, or that there’s a frost delay, or that it’s cart path only, etc.?
I hate that this place makes it so difficult to have a good time, because I enjoy the heck out of the actual golf course. The value is outstanding by comparison with other courses nearby of similar quality, but I’m not that interested in lower rates if it means six and a half hours on the property. Can’t really justify going back until I have some confidence that they’ve got their ship in order.
Pace of Play
Cart path only and 10 minute tee times leads to almost 6 hour round. Course management needs to get better control and devise a system to address this. Poor planning and course management!
slow play after outing
We didn't receive promo code discounts even after it said they were applied. Course conditions were good, but play was extremely slow due to earlier outing finishing up.
