About
Tangle Ridge Golf Club's location near Joe Pool Lake is favorable because of the elevation changes that spice up this well maintained public course. The course offers some outstanding holes, highlighted by impressive bentgrass greens that putt true. In addition to the elevation changes, Jeff Brauer's design features generous fairways lined by thick brush and huge trees. Two holes grab your attention on the front side. The opener goes 469 yards and might be the most difficult on the golf course. While there aren't too many hazards, bunkers protect the fairway and green, and the thick rough lining the fairway makes it a difficult long approach if you miss the smooth stuff off the tee. Tangle Ridge Golf Club's eighth hole is considered the signature: a 575-yarder that rolls downhill off the tee to a creek that cuts the fairway at 300 yards out. The approach on no. 8 must carry the creek to an elevated green protected by two massive mounds.

Great course with some workers who hate to smile
Have played here 7-8 times over the last few years. Course conditions are always good enough for the price, the layout is a lot of fun and rewards a good ball striking day with a good score. Very fair.
That in mind…I’m leaving my first review in years because of their staff, one person specifically. I like to assume it’s just a bad day when I have a bad experience with someone, but the gentleman who works the pro shop has been consistently rude and standoffish on literally every occasion. The group of 9-10 guys I play with have all had identical experiences, and it’s a bummer because of how great of shape the course can be in relative to price. Again, life happens and bad days can happen for anyone, but the consistently unwelcoming experience has taken a toll and caused a group of area players to avoid playing the course.

The course was in good condition
The course was in good condition. The fairways were nice and mowed with all the rain. The greens were a little bumpy. The staff was friendly. Very nice overall experience.

Why don't you let us know?
It would be nice if golf courses would either let golfers know in advance or reduce the price when the greens are bad. It's not just Tangle Ridge either; many courses fail to disclose or discount rates due to subpar conditions. The greens at Tangle Ridge have not healed from being punched several weeks ago. Putts bounced their way to the hole and subsequently failed to hold their line. The greens were very slow as well. Disappointing.

Still one of my favorite local course
For being how wet it was the course with all the rain we got was still in great shape. The greens have been recently punched so still a few weeks before the course is in pristine condition but other than that the tee boxes and fairways are in great shape.

My favorite course
Beautiful course ...wide open fairways, Greens are challenging. Easy pace to get done in less than 3 hours. Love this course.

Greens were horrible
Greens were way below standard for tangle ridge. Fairways were also below standard for your normally fantastic course. For the price I can’t play here until these things are improved

Finally
Been playing courses around the Dallas area for about a year now, give or take and finally found a course that I like. Not playing in someone's backyard, where I have to worry about a long iron not fading and going into someone's house and a drop for an OB.
Wasn't a flat course laid out between tree lines, where you go back and forth, with fairways parallel and tight with each other, like Grand Oaks or Prairie Lakes, there was actually some course architecture at work here.
Course was on a ridge, with real elevation changes, not just a tee on a hill. Fairways did not interact with each other, leaving plenty of room for shots back to the fairway.
Differs from other flat courses that just go back and forth between tree lines, with no real imagination to course design. There were times where I had to actually shot shape and play the course as it was designed, not hammering drivers here and there, but using a 1 iron and 3w off the tee, and taking advantage of the downhills and valleys to get your ball in play for an approach shot.
Best course I have played for less than <$30 in years!!!!
