Tangle Ridge Golf Club
About
Tangle Ridge Golf Club's location near Joe Pool Lake is favorable because of the elevation changes that spice up this well maintained public course. The course offers some outstanding holes, highlighted by impressive bentgrass greens that putt true. In addition to the elevation changes, Jeff Brauer's design features generous fairways lined by thick brush and huge trees. Two holes grab your attention on the front side. The opener goes 469 yards and might be the most difficult on the golf course. While there aren't too many hazards, bunkers protect the fairway and green, and the thick rough lining the fairway makes it a difficult long approach if you miss the smooth stuff off the tee. Tangle Ridge Golf Club's eighth hole is considered the signature: a 575-yarder that rolls downhill off the tee to a creek that cuts the fairway at 300 yards out. The approach on no. 8 must carry the creek to an elevated green protected by two massive mounds.

Rough shape, lots of poa
First time playing here. I’ve heard lots of good things about it. My neighbor warned me about the poa all over the greens, but I didn’t think it was that bad. I was wrong. Front nine all the greens are in pretty rough shape tons of poa. It’s like trying to put on a Plinko game…ball just darts left and right. On the back on the greens were much better, but there were still a few greens that were infested by poa.
Most of the fairway was pretty decent however, there were a few holes where it looked like a pasture, lots of weeds.
The course layout is really cool and I enjoyed several of the holes.
Most of the bunkers were either completely filled with water or extremely wet.
This course must be better during the summer but right now I cannot recommend playing it.
What a course!
This is one of the best and challenging courses in the area if you ask me. You can get into trouble, depending on club selection, on any given hole. The course is in great shape and you can tell the greens keepers take pride in their work. The pro shop and hole 19 could use an upgrade, but you're there to golf right? I would recommend this course for any type of golfer, new and experienced.
DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME
There were several things wrong with this course and I’ll list them below:
Condition: classic municipal quality (not great) with horrible poa weeds in the green. You cannot hit a putt without it rolling through weeds.
Practice area: horrendous, they clearly do not care about this at all
Staff: worst part about this golf course. I went in to check in and they immediately told me that I need to pay an ADDITIONAL $18 on my round to use a cart because “they are running low”… meanwhile, they have 1 guy in the cart barn with 15 carts waiting to be washed. Clearly in the GolfNow tee time, they mention cart included, but I guess not. I asked the pro shop staff to explain why I needed to pay an additional $18 to have a cart but he angrily said that “it’s just policy”. Obviously, I was frustrated to make the drive just to be charged extra for my round when I had already paid full price through GolfNow, and while explaining my frustration, they brought in another guy who started raising his voice at me and forcing me to pay this additional $18 to use a cart because “it’s just policy”. If it didn’t clearly state that cart was included in GolfNow, I would totally understand, but I wasn’t expecting my $55 round to turn into $75 after tax or get yelled at by two pro shop employees. I get it, people have bad days, but unless you want to pay an additional charge when you go to the course, or get yelled at by pro shop staff, I’d stay away from this course
I played this course when I was a junior golfer about 7-8 years ago and I remember it being a great track with good quality holes, however, this will be my last time out there. The course has gone completely down hill in so many directions and it won’t be long before they lose more and more players. The higher ratings on this course are not recent, so please do not be fooled.
Very Average
As with most courses currently, the fairways and rough are producing very tight lies. With this course having small greens with many elevated bowl designs made many holes overly penal for shots that just missed the putting surface, and then the recovery shots from 20 yards down the slopes on hard ground almost impossible.
First time back in a few years
Got a great deal on the app and good tee time. Unfortunately there was a storm overnight that drenched the course causing them to make it cart paths only all day. As a result it was a 5
hour Rouen and just finished before dark. We waited 5-10 minutes on every tee box. Love the layout and natural terrain and variety of holes and club selection. The greens were really bumpy
and had crab grass on most of them. Not as well
maintained as I recall when I used to play it regularly several years ago but we have had some really cold weather recently so that could be a reason.
Interesting Course
Pretty good condition currently despite recent snow rain, and general winter. Layout is challenging, but a great mix of different holes. One other review was a bomb and gouge course, but this definitely isnt true. Mostly tight with only a few true smash driver holes.
Nice course for money
Course was in good condition overall for Feb. Hole placement could be a bit better ashope were hard to read and a couple holes were on slope and ball actually rolled back a couple inches. Made putts almost impossible. Really like this course though. Difficult bunker placements at times but overall pretty foregiving
Tangled Up at Tangle Ridge
Even in winter, I love this course. Came across a Hot Deal on the app, grabbed it. Greens were fast but true. Fairways were dormant and not bare, had some good roll to them. Kitchen offered a great hotdog and a beverage. 4 1/2 hours, not bad.
Favorite
My new favorite DFW course. U personally love a grip it and rip course. And this is just that. Not a single house on the golf course. Wide open fairways. Fast and true greens. Super friendly pro shop and starter. I can’t say enough good things about this course.
