Tough Test of Golf

I got a great deal on Golfnow.com for this course. Usually a$100 course in the summer, I was able to play for less than $40. So no brainer. I got to the course a little later than expected, and didn't have much warm up time at all. I found the front 9 very difficult and the presence of the grounds crew to be challenging. They were near or around me on about every hole on the front 9, making it a bit unnerving. I was playing much better on the back 9, and also took the time to look at the GPS and even drive forward to view the hole a bit when necessary. I can normally shoot 80's no problem, and here at MD National had to play my butt off to hit 89.

Must Play

Great course, tough but fair. Keep an eye out for a cheaper price on green fees. Make sure you adhere to the dress code or they might not let you play. The pro was nice enough to let me slide on the dress code.

The best around, hands down

MD National is unequivocally the best daily-fee course in the Metro DC area.

Arthur Hills never makes it easy, but you can't knock this layout for fairness. Each hole is a unique challenge. 4 of the 5 par 3's are downhill carries over native areas to protected greens, and in my mind the hallmark of this course.

As with any big layout, you would expect to encounter some poorly maintained areas on the course, but I haven't found them. The tees are perfectly built and managed, and the greens are perfect(receptive/quick).

Most of my friends don't like to golf here because it beats them up, but I'd get membership here in a second if I lived closer. Can't wait to play again.

Beautiful, challenging, but fair test of golf. Scenic & fun!

Any Arthur Hills design is worth playing, but MD National has the natural elevation changes and scenic views of the surrounding mountains and countryside make this course one of our favorites in the Mid Atlantic region. We live 38 miles from this course and belong to a private club, but always enjoy a day trip to play this beautiful, well conditioned course. Elevated tees on nine holes offer cool looking shots and buena vistas.

Great course, great condition, great value

The condition of the course for November was A+. Greens still had grain and fairways had been over seeded. Layout is not tight, but still challenging. High and low handicappers can enjoy the course.

Wow!

The was a stunning course to play but very challenging. I'm a first year player so most courses would be hard but this one is truly a shot makers course. As my game improves, I can see me making this my home course.

Be ready for a long round, but its a great. course.

this course is a beautiful course but can be slow and expensive. So get a reduced rate and play it at off hours or off season and you will be glad you did.
The course layout and conditions are probably the best in maryland for a public course with whiskey creek a close second. If you like golf you better play here at least once or twice.

One of the Area's Best!

Great course, great staff, always in superb condition, greens are fast and true, great layout. My only complaint with this course is that there seems to be a regular contingent of folks that play SO SLOW, and they are clueless about letting you play through. Wish the marshal would educate this group of folks!! I marked the value as average based on retail price, but with GolfNow price incredible value.

Outstanding course

Excellent course in fine shape. Rolling elevation and a good mix of obstructions and open holes. The greens were still on recovery from aeration thus challenging to read. The best of the five courses played last five days, according to our visiting friends from Denver, CO.

A tremendous 5 star course

This is one of my favorite Arthur Hills course. Not overly long, but really tough. Less than 6,100 yards from the whites, with a 131 slope!

Immaculate conditions , although greens were a little choppy. Overall, this rates as a 5

Not A Course for the Senior Player

First the positive. Course was in very nice shape. The people were very nice. As a 62 year old senior I found the front nine of the course nearly impossible for me to enjoy even from the senior tees. Every par four seemed to be driver, three wood. Several were in the 385-400 yard range with long carries over waste areas for the second shot. Nearly all the greens were uphill and guarded by bunkers so there was no way to even roll the ball on. The back nine is fairer for the Senior but still difficult. We played midday and bunkers really needed attention, not sure if that was a management problem or inconsiderate golfer problem. I guess the course is ok for the longer hitter but I do not recommend for the senior, especially with the high price tag.
