Nice Course
Course is in good shape and the staff are very helpful. Range is mats only so it is hard to work on your game or warm up. Food is OK from the grill and the clubhouse is small as is their inventory It was an enjoyable round with very good pace of play and a generally nice layout with no tricks or false designs..
WAY too slow!
The course was in good shape ... greens were great. BUT ... allowing 5-somes is a truly bad idea. The pace of play was nearly a 6 hour round pace. It was impossible to have any kind if rhythm in playing.
Fairway Great shape
This is the best I seen the fairways in a long time thank for keeping it up I will come back as often I can.
This course has greatly improve
Had a pleasant round of golf , layout was good greens were in excellent shape food was great all in all an awesome Sunday
Bottom 5%
Okay, there were some misleading reviews on this course. Golfers here on Yelp need more broad sampling if you gave this place more than a star. If there was a way, I'd give this place less than a star.
The layout is as boring as it gets. It's flat and the holes just goes back and forth. Oh yeah, they actually have a 358 yard par 5. Instead of making the course a par 71, they actually have a drivable par 5. The fairways were bumpy to say the least. Bunkers are dirt filled. And the scenery...there isn't one. There's RC planes making that annoying sound mixed in with barrage of shotgun blasts topped with low flying real jets that could swallow up one of those mosquito RC planes.
The pace is slow. 5 hour seems normal here. A tangent: group of older Koreans playing in front of us were playing off of the blue tees. There drives were never longer than 200 yards. Get a clue! Blue measures close to 7000 yards. If your handicap is above 10, you should be playing the white tees. Better yet, find some gold tees. That's why the course plays to 5 hours! Get real!
This was my 190th course and I keep track of all the courses I've played. This course will rank in my bottom 5 percent. In fact, I would not miss this course if they plowed over and planted sage brush.
Mountain course 9 holes
The mountain course was an average course you would play if you just wanted to get out there and do a practice round. Nothing challenging about it. Very simple layout. Greens were in good shape however the fairways were beat up. Lots of uneven area with mounds and holes. Too many par 3's which is bad for pace of play. The best thing about my experience was the breakfast burrito I had from the cafe. Very friendly and courteous staff. (5 stars for that!)
Proshop employee tried to fight me
The pace of play was super slow 5 hours. Too many tee times were sold rather than turning away the over flow, sometimes course get booked, why do we have to squeeze in everyone who shows up without a reserved tee time? The staff, besides the nice girl who checked us in is poor to say the least, the "ice-T" wanna be who claimed to be a manager actually tried to fight me, chest bumped me, called me outside, then tried to have some local scum bags try to sucker punch me from behind as he suddenly changed his tune and was trying to be less aggressive as we exchanged vulgar remarks to each other. The altercation came after I returned to pro shop to complain about being ignored when we called the proshop for a Marshall four hours in with3 holes to play on pine course long par 3 where we had to stand next to the last green as people hit approach shots because there was 4 groups waiting to tee off. (Because of 1 group who literally 15 min on that green as well as the next two greens, I also found out that the other groups had been waiting on them for 3 holes) the Marshall never showed up because we were told he left at 4:00(which is also interesting because no one answered our calls to the pro shop till 4:06 and we were calling repeatedly from that green). The people on the course were as bad as the staff, as my brother and I were approached by some guy and told "no drug deals here guys" out of no where. It was by far the worst golf experience I have ever experienced.
good for practice
pace of slow play start at 1st hole, if you can play around with 5 hours + this is your course.
this course also fit for beginner which have many straight holes hit than dog legs holes.
the greens are only places you call good condition.
Nice County Course
Whittier Narrows is a fun track, each hole a differnt challenge. The course is flat and pretty wide open. The greens are small and fast. We played on Thanksgiving morning and it was slow. Overall, a very pleasant east LA golf experience.
Not bad for the Price
This course gets a lot of traffic. The fairways are in need of more grass-very patchy in places with dirt and gravel instead of grass. The greens had too many foot prints and many golfers forgot to repair their ball marks. The greens were smooth and fast but due to the footprints it became luck if you rolled your putt in. This course is sneaky long with 3 par 5s on the front 9. It always backs up on the par 3s. It is fairly wide open so you can bang your driver as hard as you like but watch out for the rough which tends to hide balls and then the search begins...
No Starter = Bunched-up Slow Play
No "Starter" to space out the groups of golfers. This caused a log jam of golfers. We had a lot of 5-some & 6-some groups in front of us, slowing things down, and a fast 3-some hitting balls at us from behind. We weren't enjoying this situation so we left after 3 holes (i.e. abandoned the next 15 holes).
I'll play here again
I've played this course a couple of time. Everyone here is very friendly and professional. The course is well maintained. I'm very satisfied with playing this course.
Huge Fairway and Fast Green...Good!!
It has huge fairway and quite fast green.
It's much better than most of muni CC.
Furthermore fair green fee is best part of it.
golfer
very poor staff. i used to play here as often as possible but the rate is toooooooooooo much compair to local courses... should have special rate to attract more golfers like local courses.
A lot of improvement under new management.
I will give 4 stars with the addition of drinkable water + disposable cups on this course.
Whittier Narrows
Staff was very friendly and helpful.
It was crowded. Since we were beginners we had to let a lot of golfers pass. It was a bit frustrating with so many others behind us.
