One of the first courses in the growing 1970s Plano community, Pecan Hollow started out as the Plano Municipal Golf Course. Don January and Billy Martindale, who had recently completed their signature Royal Oaks in Dallas, contracted with the city to help provide golf for Plano’s growing population.

The terrain here is flat, and the fairways are mostly wide open. January used the standard bunkers, water hazards, and trees in his design to cause problems for the golfer. The greens are of medium size and speed, and the course is basically pretty standard until you reach the punishing final stretch of holes. Nos. 16-18 are all 445-yard-plus par 4s with water in play–one of the toughest tests of golf in the DFW area.

Getting there : From I-75 north, take Plano Parkway east, then exit at 14th St. Turn right, drive a short distance to the course, and look for the entrance on the left side of the street.

Course needs some love

Overall experience was good. The course needs some love tho. Fairways need water and growth. Greens are good but unpredictable. Pace of play was the biggest issue - took 4+ hours for a Tuesday mid afternoon round. Marshal needs to put foursomes together to have better palace of play

Nice course but needs a Warden

First time out and understandably coming out of the winter everything isn’t going to be perfect but the tee boxes were good along with the greens. However, we went on a Wednesday afternoon and skipped two holes because it was so slow and backed up. Not to mention it was twosomes that were holding up everyone. And there’s no number to call the office to let them know when you call you get sent to some automated call center for the course. I couldn’t imagine playing there on the weekend.

Nice Course, Good Value

Warm for January, Windy. Tee boxes were green (and Soft!), fairways were decent (brown-ish as is typical this time of year) and greens were well manicured, receptive and in great shape. Bunkers were freshly raked too. Great value!

One of the best values in DFW

Course was very well maintained for the time of year. Some of the best greens I’ve played on this winter. There’s quite a few parallel fairways with not much rough between that will have other groups driving onto your fairway looking for balls but a very fun course nevertheless. Pace of play was good and staff was friendly.

Good track, but need to space out tee times

I love Pecan Hollow. It’s a fun track with some of the best greens in town. The layout is fun with holes that are a mix of challenging and risk reward to try to score. The practice facilities and par 3 course are top notch.

The only issue is they have 7 minute tee times. That pretty much guarantees a 5 hour round on the weekends. It’s just impossible to stay on time when you squeeze tee times that close.

I get that it lets more groups play and keeps green fees very reasonable….but I’d rather pay $10 more and not be stacked up on half the tee boxes and waiting on every fairway.

Good Value Course

Probably need to space the tee times out a little, or have a Marshall enforcing faster pace of play. If you have a tee time beginning at 1:30 or later and are playing 18, you’re not finishing before the sun goes down. Even if you skip the clubhouse grill at the turn and go straight to hole 10 like I did, we still barely finished with daylight.

Conditions wise the greens were very fast and all very unique which was great and challenging. Course layout was great and fairways were pure even in late November.
