Great Venue shame the rate of play was so slow

We both thoroughly enjoyed our round at Bird Hill Golf course. My only complaint was that the rate of play was extremely slow.

Course was in excellent condition and the staff were very helpful

Nice pay and play golf course

I'm a beginner and this was the first time I played the course.

It was a lovely day and the course was in very good condition, including the greens.

It was also quiet - I played mid-week in the early afternoon.

Lots of car parking with an American Golf store on-site. It also has a driving range, which I did not use on the day. Clubhouse, bar, toilets all a bit tired, but it didn't really effect my round.

Bird Hills Saturday

Course quite soggy underfoot. Bunkers in good condition. Greens excellent considering weather. Difficult to get any distance

Considering state of run on fairways. Need to dry out first downhill hole.

A course that has survived the winter

At this time of year it's not surprising that some areas of the fairways were wet and muddy. But overall the course was in good condition. The greens were running true and a credit to the ground staff. Very enjoyable.

This is very much a 'golf centre'' - well it's the only golf course I know that has an American Golf shop as part of the set up. In addition to the 18 hole course and the shop is a large driving range, putting areas and social club style bar and restaurant.

Before i even get to the course I have to mention the value. We paid £16 for 18 holes which is pretty much as cheap as you're going to get. But almost everything was good value - from the £1 bottles of drink to the range balls to the the meal and pint afterwards, it was all very reasonable.

Ok, so the course isn't anything special. In fact i'd say it's one of the poorer maintained courses i've played in the area. However there's no obvious problem, no temporary greens, no winter tees, no unnecessary trolley bans. The holes are varied and interesting to play - probably not much of a challenged to scratch players but fine for the rest of us. The greens were not great but i've seen far worse.

Overall it's a good experience and one i'd definitely do again.
