Great course with some challenging holes
Course is tight in places so have to be accurate.
Greens were slow but that is down to the time if year but still in excellent condition
Really nice course
Really enjoyed playing here with two contrasting sets of 9 holes. The front 9 has lots of water and the back is more open and undulating. Greens were good and the fairways lush.
My only gripe, as with a lot of courses is that there is no map on the scorecard and no detail on the tees of what each hole entails.
Friendly Pro but course was not in good condition, ignoring the fact that the screens had been worked on which we knew about in advance. The course needs a bit of TLC. We only paid £25 but still wont be coming back for a while until I hear things have improved. Pity as a great scenic course with some great holes.
Great day out at Bovey Castle Golf Course
Part of a 3 Ball group and we found the course and facilities were of a high standard,
Pro Golf shop service was excellent and very welcoming. Lovely setting with super views of the countryside to complement the well maintained golf course. We will definitely return to play the course again.
250mile Round Trip
The course layout is excellent, some really great holes that make you think. But there was a couple of problems.
1. The greens had been dressed a few days before, although cut that morning they hadn’t been cut to a good level. So slow, bumpy, not good. Upon talking to the pro he mentioned that there is no option to detail this on GolfNOW site - if I’d called before booking I may have been made aware of this.
2. After a long drive I asked where in the hotel I could get some breakfast. Apparently they don’t offer this to golfers only residents. Staffing levels was the excuse. The pro did then go and get me a bacon roll; so he did his best to be helpful.
Hopefully next time I do a 250 mile round trip to Bovey Castle the course (greens) are in a better condition.
Hotel course
Expensive for what it is. We had a three ball behind us in two buggies, with mum, grandma and two boys with a football. It just didn't feel like a private course with a bit of quality.
Just take your money and go. We couldn't buy a beer after as it was shut for a function.
Bovey castle
Excellent course, friendly helpful staff,Ryan very helpful.A few more signs to the next tee would be good.Definitely play again
Great natural features
The front nine are excellent with most holes involving the river that runs through the valley.
Favourite course in Devon
Challenging but fantastic course in beautiful countryside. Played in December but course was in great condition.
Simply the best
The greens although we had showers and the entire course for that matter were simply superb.
Congratulations to all.
Best course for many miles
Hidden gem with great character
Superb course that gave and took in equal measure.
Not massively long but required accuracy and good strategy to score. The front 9 was tough with rivers and hazards constantly in play. The back 9 was easier imo and a good example of risk/reward golf. At least 4 of the holes offered good chances for birdie.
Course was in great condition considering the awful weather in the build up to the round.
Not the easiest club in the world to get to but it’s well worth a visit. I found it on a level with a number of NCG Top 100 courses.
Beautiful Bovey.
Fantastic course in A1 condition, not the cheapest or easiest course to get to, but well worth it. Right from the 1st hole which is the classic risk & reward hole( dare you try and drive the green?) to the 18th that doglegs right to left with trouble down both sides, in between there,s a fine mixture of par 3,4, and 5s that will test your game fairly. The front 9 takes you around the river valley , with water coming into play on most holes, from there you climb out of valley to the back 9, which is a bit more open, where if the wind is up can create a whole new challenge, Bovey Castle is a very pretty course, the fairways, greens and tee boxes were all in fantastic condition. Will be back to play this course again .
