Great Winter Round
Downes Crediton was playing really well. Some wet patches but generally much better than most local courses at this time of year. Very friendly welcome in the pro shop. Practice nets and putting green to warm up. Front 9 nice and flat then back 9 more hilly with some fun steep holes and short par 3’s. Very good value golf. Will definitely play again soon.
Mates game
Tough course when the wind is blowing some nice holes and a couple of not so good holes but certainly worth playing
Nice club house and good food
Very welcoming club , superb holes , great variety of holes
worth a visit
Lovely course, great welcome from all the staff, the food was lovely and the course was in good condition and well worth a visit.
Varied and interesting course
Enjoyed the game, despite significant climbs and down slopes mostly on the back 9.
It was a very warm day but plenty of shade to be found and the general course condition was very good.
Crediton in Winter
Have played this course several times so knew the layout, but this was the first time in Winter with so many temporary greens [15?]. Got caught out by the temporary 13th Tee, wasn't informed when we checked in and on course signage could have been a bit better. Course wet in places from all the recent rain but not as muddy as expected. The permanent greens that we played were suffering from fungus/burns [?] with lots of small patches of browned grass, or lack of. I would recommend that signs are placed at the Tees with distances to the temporary greens, not many courses do this but it would be greatly appreciated. Clubhouse is being refurbished but we still had a nice drink after playing. Certainly would recommend playing this course.
Fairways cut a little tight
Love this course. It's a little quirky,
Front 9 is classic parkland and good fun, but back 9 has a number of exceptional holes. 10, 12 and 16 are all interesting.
Greens are well watered and in very good condition, but I thought the fairways were too tight, especially for mid-July. Weather has been very dry and the grass will just continue to burn off.
I travel from Taunton and really enjoy the drive too. Crediton is off the beaten track and a good choice when summer traffic is crazy on the M5 and A30.
Fabulous fairways
Fairway grass notably good, greens good too.
Course is quirky as ever. Classic parkland first 9, quite narrow in parts, but some very steep climbs making interesting holes in second 9. My favourites are 12 and 16. We return to play every 4 months or so.
1ball
Came to ply on my own, first time at the course. A little confusing as to where the tees were, however thoroughly enjoyed. Some of the holes were very challenging but enjoyable, notably the 12th! Will be coming again,
Great course
An enjoyable course which is fair.
Greens good.
Great views.
I prefer the winter course to the summer.
Members welcoming , even when I nearly hit them!!!
Lovely course, stunning views
Beautiful little course with very friendly staff and locals, only criticism wad the fairways were a tad long, add that to the damp dew grass and you were losing maybe 40yds a shot through no travel across the ground, I have however played here before and its usually beautifully cut so it was just the one off
Cracking course
Fantastic course! Thoroughly impressed will hopefully be back.

I brought this a few weeks ago to play when lock down ended. Got told by the pro I couldn’t play for some stupid reason. Haven’t got my refund back
First after lock-down
Enjoyed getting out again.
Course in reasonable condition but surprisingly wet in places and there were areas needing protection if they're not to deteriorate quickly.
First time I've had to carry in a very long time.
For those who know the course, we decided not to take on the very hilly 10-12, but instead played 1-9,1,15-18 and that worked just fine. Got in no-one's way.
Only one criticism was the poor attention to temp. greens, but happily these were only on 1&17.
Look forward to returning in the Spring!

Surprising that this was only the 3rd day after another Covid lockdown ended it was carry only, no trolleys. Once on the course you could see why, lots of places sodden.
Played first nine and then missed out 10,11,12,13 & 14 and skipped to 15. Rain showers, gusty wind, hail and sunny spells. A couple of temporary tees and greens. The temporary greens were very rough, perhaps set up at short notice.
If the wet weather continues I suspect the course will close to avoid a mud bath.
Have played this course several times and generally I'm happy, this time the ground conditions made it a lot less enjoyable.
