A short but challenging course

This is my first visit to Okehampton, I will return. The course is short but more challenging than you would expect, and very hilly! The slope that runs across most fairways can be a challenge, the firm ground meant even a ball down the middle of the fairway could end up on the first cut due to the slope.

Some tighter fairways meant strategic tee shots are your friend.

Poor show

Not a good day for golfing. The pace of play was appalling for a Sunday. We were stuck behind a que of people seemingly stood around waiting to tee off. No!, they were just chatting and taking their time on the tee box with open fair ways ahead of them, not a care in the world. Impossible fairways to navigate as one wrong move and you have broken your ankle and fallen down a hill. No vending machine or halfway house so if u do play, do not forget water or your day is ruined. the green where perhaps a 5/10 with terrible pin locations. i will not be coming back here as it is a waste of money and effort. 4 hours just to be on hole 13 we decided to call it a day as we were so let down by the course. i went to go and ask for help, CLUB HOUSE WAS SHUT. Only come here if you love bad golf.

A challenge, bur so enjoyable

Got to get your tee shots off and give yourself a good approach to really try to challenge the course. A lot of the holes are on a slope so you need to really shape the ball. Greens were quick and a lot have slopes and undulations that prove to be tricky. Lovely par 3,s and some memorable blind Par 4’s. Well worth a visit and a round. But it can be very busy at the weekend.

Welcoming Golf

Narrow fairways require thoughtful club choice, but players are not too heavily penalised for errant shots. Some quirky holes that linger in the memory and proved to be very entertaining - one particular par three plays way shorter than it looks from the overhead tee. Greens were in good shape with tricky slopes and tiers and running true.

Grounds staff were great fun and this very friendly vibe extended to other players on course and in the pro shop. The pro shop itself is well worth a visit on its own for amazing range of stock and great bargains (not often said of many pro shops).

Pace of play was particularly impressive given that we teed off behind a seniors comp. Will definitely be back for future rounds.
