this place needs to be nuked
If this place was to be bombed vigorously,
It would be better to golf on.
Course closed?
Course unplayable, little grass on green, fairways and t positions uncut. Lost many balls on the fairway .
Impossible to play.
Complained and looking for refund
DO NO BOOK!!
Completely unplayable, course is in a state of disrepair. No access to any of the facilities and nobody on site to take a complaint.
Very disappointed
Golf course has been left to go to ruin fairways not cut bunkers full of grass and the greens shocking it should not be taking paymts for this very disappointed
Very disappointed
This was a great course 2 years ago now a shadow of it's former self greens overgrown bunkers why leave a rake when a fly mower would be better and fairways longer than any rough very disappointed
New owners required urgently !!
Yes it was a miserable wet Saturday, we are new to golf and tried Fingle Glen, it could be a great course and is very challenging for a novice..There ends the positives, on arrival the car park was empty, there was a sign on the door saying clubhouse closed due to lack of staff and if you have prebooked online, take a score card and proceed to the 1st tee..NO Signage for directions to hardly any tees. the grass to the whole of the course is awful, the tee boxes grass was so long even your tallest tee was not tall enough. The fairways so long we lost balls in them, when you do get to a bunker it's like cement and overgrown..we had heard the greens were ropey, well I've seen smoother potato fields. We did persevere and finished 18 holes as it was our first ever full round. This could be a great course and on our drive home, some google research found out the Fingle Glen is up for sale and under offer, hopefully new owners can make it great, until then I would not waste your money .
Seen better days?
There is a good golf course in here somewhere, but it look like it has been left unmaintained and deteriorating.
The course is challenging enough but made even more so by the poorly maintained fairways, which are basically rough, and unplayable greens (not in a good way). The course is poorly marked - hard to find the 1st tee, plenty of "next tee" signs missing. Bunkers full of weeds
The Clubhouse wasn't open at the start or end of my round. Basically if your course isn't set up to welcome golfers then take the tee-time booking off-line. Even 20 quid felt like I'd been robbed.
If someone could invest some money in this course it could actually be really spectacular.
Poor Greens don't waste your money.
First time I've every walked of a course after 3 holes arrived 30 mins before my tee time to fide no lights on no staff around and all the doors locked. Then a member turn up and i spoke to him asking when do the doors open he just laughed and said when every the Owen wakes up, That should of been my first warning, I then spoke to a nice lady behind the bar, I asked for a buggy and she didn't know the code to the chain fair enough i asked who dose she replied the owner i asked for the owner and she said there not awake yet that was warning number 2.
Played the first hole fair ways are poor very patchy the green are unplayable patched cut up patches of mud, you can putt on them Don't waste your time with the bunkers unplayable.
I wish i read the reviews before playing as i would never of wasted my time 100% wouldn't recommend to play here. Save your money spend a little be more and play a much better course around Exeter.
Nice course but poorly maintained.
Course layout was great, just enough challenge from tee to green. Unfortunately the course is massively let down by greens that had been neglected and bunkers with weeds growing through. The new 18th hole was massively underwhelming with no character. A real shame this course would be great with a bit of TLC!
Terrible greens
This greens on this course are absolutely terrible with huge cracks and in some of them there are deep holes.
Very poor greens
Whilst the course itself is interesting and well put together the lack of maintenance on the greens lets it down. Investment needed!
If you can look past the poorly signposted course, the tired tee boxes and bunkers full of weeds there is a gem of a course here with great views over Dartmoor. This course feels a little bit like it’s been forgotten and looking at the reviews for the rest of Fingle Glen, it might not be the only part. Enough variety in hole length to keep it interesting and as a high handicap player, plenty of challenge. Just a shame it feels a little forgotten about.
Lots of potential but fails to deliver.
This course has so much potential, great layout, challenging holes, sloping fairways and greens along with a warm and friendly welcome. But, (isn't there always a but!) the greens (browns) are possibly the worst I've ever seen, dry, cracked, bare earth and cuts on every one, created on purpose by grounds staff. The holes has been changed so yardage apps are wrong and the original 1st hole no longer exists and an extra hole added after the 18th with no yardage to work with. The bunkers were also bare and overgrown with weeds It needs a lot of TLC to bring it back to life. We played another local course the day before and the greens were immaculate although the rest of the course was parched. We left feeling extremely disappointed.
Really really awful greens
I am really sad to say but Fingle glen golf course is without a doubt the most run down course I have ever played. The greens are absolutely terrible with hundreds of major cracks and some even have deep holes in them. Whoever owns this golf course either needs to spend some time putting in a lot of effort and obviously some money to try and revive the course or they need to close it down as it's embarrassing to say it's a golf course. Maybe the owners want the course to be so run down they can close it and sell to a building firm for more houses to be built. I'm sorry to leave such a negative review but I really feel this is necessary as something needs to be done to make Fingle glen golf course playable again. I would upload photos only it won't let me
Course needs serious imvestment
The greens today were unplayable, it looks like they’ve not been watered all summer. There were also some really hazardous areas around some of the old tee boxes, rusty nails sticking out and broken wood with nails sticking up.
Could not believe the state of course
On arrival, the club house itself looks deserted and poor. although the interior was lovely, when checking in saw a state of one of the final greens and was shocked. should of known what was coming when the nice lady behind the counter mentioned she has had multiple complaints about the state of the greens on the day. the course alone is in a good location, however it must never be looked after. the fairways are terrible, feels like hitting of concrete, the bunkers had weeds growing in them, the sand was no longer sand, again, it was like hitting off rocks. the sand has hardened to such an extent we refused to hit out of them as our clubs were at risk. the greens, as previously mentioned must be the worst in Devon. bumpy, rock solid, no grass on most greens; to be honest there was no grass on most of the greens, it was almost pointless putting as the state of the greens just made it unplayable. i know this is a cheap course which is good because it can allow new players to gain confidence and course experience. however i am shocked at the state of this place. i have played pitch and putts for £5 with much better greens, i wanted to go and ask for some money back/just go and let them know that this was almost an unplayable round but the club house was closed! No one around to talk to. so i left feeling robbed and disappointed. will not be returning and will be letting everyone know how terrible this course is.
DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE
DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE. We played for £13 each and it wasn’t even worth that. Greens (if you can call them that) were horrific. Understandable to have a dry course in summer but this was levels above dry, no course maintenance at all.
Only positive was the pace of play, because no one wanted to play this course.
Unplayable greens
All of the greens were so hard and the holes in most greens made putting impossible. I have also notified them that they should have told us the course was not in good condition but have had no reply. At the minute I would not recommend playing this course.
No course maintenance
Nice enough staff location and plenty of potential but terrible course conditions unplayable greens, bunkers not looked after, confusing course layout
