Great Round and Great Players
The staff were great and made it a swift and smooth process , great cafe next door too which was a great addition. The course was great and well maintained the other players were very respectful and friendly and made my first (of many) visits to this course a lovely visit , will be back for sure.
Nice Course
Much better condition this time, especially the Greens. The only issue with the course which can be frustrating, is the dog walkers who seem to think they have right of way, which can slow the game down.
Great twilight golf!
The course has recently opened the freshly prep’d summer tees which are good. Fairways great My only annoyance was the amount of dog walkers who are completely oblivious to where they are, strolling along, on the phone ,up the middle of fairways , dogs off leads which incensed me and took the shine off my nine holes.
Good for the cost
Good course conditions, tight fairways with trees lining most so provides a challenge for a short course.
Can't beat it for the cost but the course was fully booked so it did end up being a 5 hour round.
It was Sunny
Played Chingford Golf course on Saturday 5th April. The weather was perfect for golf and the course was in great condition. If you’re a beginner it’s worth the try. Only thing I would recommend to the club is for a halfway house that could sell drinks/snacks etc. and golf ball’s if required of which would come in useful 😜
Value for money
Great old course, using best of epping forrest and an absolute bargain for a round.
Get what you pay for, for £11 a round is worth coming back as its convenient from the overground.
No driving range to warm up but has a putting green.
Greens have a few patchy bits and loads of pitch marks.
Lots of dry muddy patches. Tee boxes out of play in the winter and replaced with matts which aren't always stable. Your movement off the back swing can move the whole matt which will move your ball.
Get some people walking through the course with their dogs (which is usually fine but some people do just walk infront of you whilst you're trying to play) saw one guy throw a tennis ball on a green for his dog to go and get.
If you want a cheap round if golf its a good place for beginners or intermediates with beginners. if you’re an advanced golfer and used to high standards it'll feel pretty crap.
People in the shop are usually pretty sound!
Play it regularly…
Chingford has dried out very well. Boggy areas around some tees. and greens to tees have been treated to hardcore, which (IMO) has sadly been done to a really poor standard and looks a mess. Fairways rolling well. Greens (normally good) need attention. Playable but patchy. Terrible (tiny and poorly aligned) winter tee mats, also letting down this pretty course. The course looks ‘tatty’ and it’s such a shame because it’s a lovely place and deserves better. That said, I know what to expect, manage my expectations and always enjoy playing here. Staff are friendly. Log your number plate prior to playing or you run the risk of a parking ticket.
Mucky
6hcp. I love Chingford GC. Nice course design with plenty of interesting holes. Sadly (but to be expected), I played on Tuesday and the course was suffering from the weather. Winter Astro Turf tees need upgrading and surrounding areas are boggy. Fairways are in poor condition at the moment and the greens (which are normally very reasonable) are lumpy with no chance of a true roll.
The course represents excellent value, but because of this, it attracts many beginners and the course suffers as a consequence. The course, despite the weather is permanently open and this also negatively affects the overall conditions. The greens staff do a good job but they’re up against it. I’d still recommend Chingford, but manage your expectations. Mud balls every shot. Pick wipe and place throughout for a more enjoyable game. Replace your divots and repair your (and others) pitch marks. Hopefully, by doing so, we can all enjoy this lovely course in the Spring and Summer when it’s at its best.
Chingford office work day hooky
Love the course, difficulty level, lay out, staff coordination, just the best!!
A local favourite
It’s January. Manage expectations and you’ll enjoy.
Winter tee boxes to be expected.
Fairways in overall good condition aside from a few mucky areas, to be expected.
Greens a little bumpy owing to soft conditions but generally fair and certainly not desperate. Flag positions on day were cut to front, which makes sense to preserve the greens, but makes scrambling tough.
Pace of play….. generally fair. I booked via the App as a One Ball. I ALWAYS ask another 1 or 2 ball if they want company (on course). It makes sense for the speed and flow of play. Joined up with Andy and we had a good round together.
Chingford represents a good but fair test of golf. Aside from the 3 opening holes which I consider tough, there’s plenty of scoring opportunities. It’s not a long course but there’s plenty of opportunities to spread your wings and open up off the tee. I play off 6 and always enjoy Chingford.
Lovely January Day
As most course at this time of year some of the tracks were a bit muddy. To preserve the summer tees all tees were of boxes. Fairways were fine and greens in very good nick.
My 7th time but my partners were there for first time and said they would definitely come back. Great course in the summer when there's leaves on the trees as it's actually in Epping Forest.
Very good small course , it does get a bit confusing around hole 9 as we’re to go but we worked it out in the end , can’t wait to return in the summer
First round at Chingford
Not in the greatest condition and would imagine it would be very boggy after some rain but £28:50 for a Saturday morning it’s worth it, nice layout of holes I would go back in the summer
