Forest Creek Golf Club

About
Designed by Dick Phelps, Forest Creek Golf Club has been named "Best Public Golf Course in Central Texas" by Golf Digest as well as "Golf Club of the Year" by Club Corporation of America. Phelps' design features plush, narrow fairways, and its namesake Forest Creek that comes into play on 11 holes. Many of the holes dogleg, and its most difficult holes are the long par 4s. These holes are especially evident on the back nine, with holes 10, 15, and 18 all playing well over 400 yards. The 15th is the most difficult, playing a bogey-welcoming, par 5-like 472 yards.

Great winter golf
The course was I very good condition for late December golf. The greens were a little rough from what appeared to be a recent de-thatching and verti cut. Otherwise all was good.
Great Golf Experience
Golf course was well maintained tee to green. Great color for this time of year and the greens rolled true. A bit slower than the growing season as they prepare for the harsh winter months.
Pro shop was accommodating and we had a great burger and cold beer after the round. This isn’t your typical municipal golf course and I highly recommend!
Greens are horrible now (Dec 2024)
Many years ago, I used to play Forest Creek almost every day and the course conditions were pristine, from the tee boxes to the greens. I’m not sure what is happening now… the greens were almost unplayable. Slow, bumpy, and more bare patches than I remember. Maybe there’s a transition going on, but the city Munis are not this bad.
Forest Creek makes Avery Ranch look a cow pasture!!!
There are no negatives to mention about Forest Creek (except #9😁)
Pro shop staff A+
Practice facility A+
19th hole A+
Course layout A+
Course condition A+
Greens A+
Marshals A+
Cost to play A+
With the exception of proximity to my home, Avery Ranch overall is B- in all categories compared to a municipal course like Forest Creek.
Forest has a family touch to it’s overall customer experience, while Avery is more like, “How may I help you means, you’re bothering me with your presence, go away, but give me your money first”.
I have a new Home Course!!!
Dogs should NOT be allowed on the course
My group teed off at 11:50 and the 11:40 group had a dog with them. The dog proceeded to take a dump on the first tee in front of my group AND the starter. NOTHING SAID!
The dog was tearing up the greens as his owner was tossing balls for the dog to fetch.
These players should be fined /banned for the damage that occurred to the greens.
Forest Creek, always great
Course in excellent condition and a good challenge
Nine drives uphill and blind
First timer, tough course. Drives uphill (8) and blind are hit and pretty short, leading to looong second shots. I played green tees. Greens good, fairways good (no complaints).
2” of rain fell night before. Really wet in spots. Traps washed out. The playable traps, players did not rake.
CART PATH ONLY. 5-1/2 hour round. 5-1/2 hours.
Carts are electric and good.
Driving range closed in morning so no comment.
Great course
We had a foursome and this course was amazing. We were greeted right away with friendly staff who took care of us. Course was a true championship layout. Pace of play was right at 4 1/2 hours. There are marshals everywhere driving around making sure we were good. Highly recommend this course to everyone.
Another Great Day at Forest Creek
Staff are always great, course was in great shape, great value!
