La Loma at Fort Sam Houston Golf Course
About
The La Loma course is one of two 18-hole, championship courses at the historic Fort Sam Houston. The facility hosted the Texas Open in the '50s and '60s, making it the only military facility to ever host a PGA event. La Loma has its fair share of challenges but overall the other course at the club, Salado del Rio, is the more demanding of the two. The fairways are tree-lined but not as tight as on the other golf course, lending a more forgiving quality to La Loma. The greens are medium in both size and speed and there are strategically placed bunkers throughout the course. Fort Sam Houston also has a practice chipping green and a lighted driving range for golfers to use.

Bad greens
On a good approach shot to the green, you should be rewarded but the greens were dry patched up some were terrible
Loma
Greens were very inconsistent. Staff was great! Bunkers needed sand. Good deal for the price!
Conditions
Greens were ok, some fairways had no grass but overall the value was excellent
Fun Course
I always enjoy playing military courses and Ft Sam has two very nice 18 hole courses. Great pro shop with a friendly staff and an excellent restaurant.
Don’t play Salado golf course. The greens are terrible.
Inside golf people are rude and don’t like golf now or tee time people. They don’t honor the course or tee time you book. Save your money. This is a glorified goat track.. if your looking for cheap golf this is your place.
loved it... simply and to the point
Great course to play... was not overly difficult. Good course to work on the mechanics of the game (which I need...lol)
Course wasn’t in great condition but it was a great value..
Must have military pass
Despite playing @ Fort Sam 2 weeks prior as a non-miliitary golfer, I was turned away and not allowed to play despite having prepaid for the round. GolfNow is NOT clear about this requirement, and I've notified them. Very disappointed with the curt service from the clubhouse.
Salado
Arrived to find the range is closed for renovation. Nice to know that ahead of time. LaLoma course was closed, so we played Salado. My first time. An interesting course with a fair amount of trees that demands accuracy.
Beautiful day for golf!
Due to various injuries we haven't played golf in over 3 months. I'm glad we chose this course to get back out there. The course is pretty wide open, not a lot of hazards. Fairways and greens were ok for January, and the pace of play was ok, not great. Fortunately the group in front of us let us play through so that saved us some waiting around. We stopped for a quick bite at the turn, 2 hotdogs, a bag of chips and a soda for $10, good deal. Would play here again.
Great Course
Fairways in great shape and green were nice and tight. Love the openness of the course.
