La Loma at Fort Sam Houston Golf Course
About
The La Loma course is one of two 18-hole, championship courses at the historic Fort Sam Houston. The facility hosted the Texas Open in the '50s and '60s, making it the only military facility to ever host a PGA event. La Loma has its fair share of challenges but overall the other course at the club, Salado del Rio, is the more demanding of the two. The fairways are tree-lined but not as tight as on the other golf course, lending a more forgiving quality to La Loma. The greens are medium in both size and speed and there are strategically placed bunkers throughout the course. Fort Sam Houston also has a practice chipping green and a lighted driving range for golfers to use.

Not as good as I remembered it
The Course was not in good shape. Fairways where fair but the greens where all different in quality- some fast some slow. Some Parts of the course where very damp due to watering. There was also no Drink Carts on the Course what with the actual heat was disappointing.
DONT SIGN UP
I signed up for a round, prepaid, got a good rate and when we showed up to the course, the staff told us they didnt do tee times through golf now, and they didnt have a prepaid tee time for us. Tee time was at 1230. Front desk person said I would have to call golfnow to get refund and the earliest tee time they had was at 310. Front desk was no help. So i would not book though golf now call them directly. Honestly play different course Front desk ppl are rude.
Great course
I played by myself, and people where super friendly and they let me play trough and one of them offer me to play with him, nice prices, carts in good condition the only downside was that the range was closed
LOMA: NICE OPEN COURSE. Great condition!
Recent rains have left this course in excellent condition. Nice open fairways for the most part. Greens really nice, not as fast as most public courses. No restaurants or bars. Range only mats. Nice big putting green, and chipping area. No sand practice area. Have to call for tee times, no website. Overall really nice. Staff was nice. Not over priced!
Played Salado course not La Loma
Mix up with gold now and the course. Was a tournament going on but was set up on the 2nd course Salado with no hassles from the club house.
1st time playing and will def be back again. Great layout course is in pretty good condition. Pace of play was a little slow but nothing that was too drastic. Enjoyed the day out.
Nice Track
Nice easy track with great staff. Slow pace this day but is was Labor Day
Fort Sam Houston
Need to pack lunch/snacks/drinks if you play Salado del Rio course
Great course.
One of the best military course I have played. Hats off to the maintenance staff. The course is always ready to play. Keep up the great work.
Texas drought golf
Considering we're in a drought in Texas. We had a blast at Fort Sam golf course. The course was in good condition and very fun to play. Still trying to contact Golf Now about the discount tee times?????
Awful conditions
I have seen this course in good condition. Not today. Perhaps the worst condition I have seen a course in within the last few years. I am hopeful that more money will be spent on the course going forward. The carts and driving range were great — but more effort needs to be put into course maintenance. Standing water in bunkers due to overwatering. Some bunkers were basically rock instead of sand. Fringes were bare. I’ve never seen the course this bad and only a few that approached this condition. If they let it go much further, they might as well plow it under.
Bad greens
On a good approach shot to the green, you should be rewarded but the greens were dry patched up some were terrible
