Narrow tree-lined fairways and a creek which you often encounter make Lackland AFB's Gateway Hills Golf Course a fun round. The ninth hole, playing up a steep hill is a real experience as is the elevated green on 18. If you have a friend who is in the military and can get on, Gateway Hills Golf Course a worthwhile option with well manicured greens.
Gateway Hills Golf Course is laid out on 200 acres featuring extreme elevation changes overlooking San Antonio. The golf course meanders 6,900 yards from the back tees with many strategically located bunkers and a host of oak and mesquite trees. Great time. Great layout
Beadre lutiful course. A little dry. But that's all of San antonio.
Value course
You can get a really cheap rate to play this course, and it is not a difficult course. It has some interesting elevation changes, but it’s overall not very challenging. My only gripe is with the gentleman in the pro shop (the older one). He is always very impersonal almost to the point of being rude.
Course has some tough holes with hills
Tee to green the. Purse was in good shape even in the hot summer weather. If you get into the rough due to a bad slice or hook, than these areas were in bad shape due to a lack of water here. So, just stay in the fairway and you will be ok. I wish I could take my own advice on that ....lol

I really don't understand the five-star reviews. This course is in poor condition tee to green. Many fairways gone....

Great course
Temp might have been pretty high but it felt very pleasant on the golf course. I guess the humidity was low and a nice breeze made it so nice. Greens are in great condition. Looking forward to playing this golf course again!
Missing Details Cause Missed Tee Time
This course should not be on Golf Now or it should all of the instructions needed to play this course. Because it’s on an Air Force Base, in order to to play you need to Clearance. In order to get clearance you MUST book your tee time 24 hours in advance. If you do not then your name will not be on the clearance list. If your name is not on the clearance list then you have to go to the visitor center and get a pass, but It’s only open Monday - Friday! So i booked a tee time on Friday for an afternoon tee time on Saturday and the visitor center was closed so we couldn’t even get past the gate. None of this information is listed in the description of the course. I will be seeking a refund.
Gateway golf
A little surprised. The golf course is in excellent condition. Especially the greens!!! Hope that project on hole number 10 doesn’t drag on too much longer?
Best value for golfing! The course is always in great condition and the staff is super friendly! I love golfing here and will come back every chance I get.
Quality Visit
Course was I good shape and everything was enjoyable; even got treated to “retreat” on the 13th hole which brought back Lackland memories
Couldn't access
despite the fact that they claim their policies are online their website is down and inaccessible and no clarification is posted on GolfNow. if your civilian do not expect to be able to spend a day golfing at what was supposedly a very nice golf course. the staff is not friendly or understanding and refuses to accept feedback from a customer perspective which is very disappointing considering they are in customer service.
Can't beat the price
For the price this course is excellent. During the week wasn't too busy.
Great day at LAFB
Had a great day at Gateway Hills. Pro shop staff was top shelf and let us start our round 25 min prior to our scheduled time. Course was in really good shape and the greens were soft and receptive to approach shots. Only down side to entire experience was a group of 5 older female golfers who would not let people play through. After we got past them, the entire course was open and we breezed through our round. Course is in best shape it has been for many years and you can tell their hard work is paying off. Kudos to LAFB.
Very enjoyable
Gateway Hills has completed the renovation on hole one...They did a great job. Hope they fix number 10 next. My swing was good .....why didn't those putts go in!!!!
Great course
Enjoyed the round. But, if you get there early (before your tee time) don’t expect to get on the course (even if you’re the only one there) Unless you pay an extra $10!!!. This is a change from the past. Not sure why the change.
Elevation
This was my first time playing this course on Lackland AFB in San Antonio, and it won't be my last! This was an extremely fun and challenging course. The elevation changes from tee box to greens were fun and challenging. The staff was nice and made it pleasant to play.
Beautiful day for golf
Drainage on hole 1 is complete...Wow nice improvement. Hope they work on hole 10 sometime soon. Met some good old guys waiting for group in front of them.....The 92 year old was just a little slow. Could be he was taking his time .....working on all those pars!
