Nice drop hole and challenging course
The course was in gteat condition greens were excellent despite other older reviews. Lots of work going on at present but I definately will go back may even arrange a trip for members from my club. A course that needs thought and not just blasting a driver off every tee. Shot well under my handicap due to excellent course conditions.
Don't play this course
Fingle Glen is the worst maintained course my wife and I have ever played on. The greens are in a terrible condition. They had been hollow tined recently but that wasn't the problem. They are diseased which has left bare patches. The bunkers have not been maintained. The sand is compacted. The fairways were covered in clumps of wet mown grass. The layout of the course is very odd and lacking in signage. The buggy we hired had not been cleaned since the previous players.
Interesting course, but awful greens
I've been playing this course for about a year.
It's an interesting course and no two holes are even remotely similar, making for a fun and interesting round.
The staff are friendly. Fairways are reasonable. Scenery is lovely.
The one thing that lets it down though is the greens, they're pretty awful. After multiple lockdowns I was hoping they'd improve, but no. They're very patchy, bumpy, and easily add on +5 strokes a round (which is annoying as course rating is low). I've paired up with other members before and am aware that many are fed up with the greens and considering leaving over them. Real shame as otherwise, it's a great course.
Bunkers aren't great. Some are full of weeds, stones, and low on sand. The sand itself is really coarse and poor.
Green fees are pretty good. The one downside is that you do get players that don't know basic etiquette. If seen buggies getting stuck, going across greens etc.
Clubhouse is pretty nice.
Terrible Drainage / Missed 2 holes due to no signs
Would not recommend for winter golf.
Regularly play golf in the winter time and aware it’s difficult to keep the course in good nick. But the drainage on the course was awful, any shot with loft would get plugged into the very soaked fairway.
Winter tees were difficult to find and even missed 2 holes 11.12 due to no signage showing the way.
For a ‘golf hotel’ the coarse could be lot better.
A fair challenge
After finding out golf now didn’t even book us in and the fact Fingle don’t use golf now anymore we managed to play. The staff were great and honoured the booking even though they had no record. Some very challenging holes, a few great short risk reward holes. Fairly hilly but good value and enjoyable.
Fingle Glen
Lovely course. Variety of hole types. Rey helpful and friendly staff
Good layout......greens need to be better
Lovely course and interesting round throughout. I’d compare the greens to shaldon pitch and putt which is a public par three course.
If the green keepers improved the putting surfaces this will be an amazing course!!
Challenging course
Course in decent condition some tricky holes. Quite hilly and best get a buggy for this type of course. Lots of holes have underlating fairways where ball is either above or below your feet making it more difficult to hit that straight shot into the green. Greens good. Fairly quick for the courses we are used to but overall a good course and glad we played it.
Well worth the visit
The staff at booking in where really helpful, the course had two comps going on but we had no hold ups until the 16th hole. The course is well laid out and easy to go from green to tee without getting lost. Downside the yardage markers where hard to find so on some of the blind holes it made it hard. I would imagine in wet weather the bottom of the course will be boggy. The bar was welcoming and we will definitely be back again
Great course
A fantastic round of golf with great views very good condition for the time of year and a mixture of hard and easy holes great for everyone
Good Day at Fingle GLEN
Hi
Good course, I some interesting holes overall welll maintained, good facilities and nice bar area.
Only thing that let it down was no electric trolley hire.
Good cheap round
The course was empty we played with no delays the fairways were good and not too wet considering the recent weather unfortunately the greens were not that good having been hollowtined and fertilised just recently but a good dry round at a great price enjoyed
Good fairways
Fairways in good order greens less so. A good variety of holes.
Great course
Great course all the mod cons buggy hire great idea as a bit hilly but walkable great greens and fairways a beautiful clubhouse and practice facility if that's not enough look at the accommodation facilities great price
Make sure you have a buggy
Extremely hilly course with very thick and unforgiving rough.
a very undulating golf course with a lot of short but challenging par fours. overall a very enjoyable round of golf. excellent value.
Not as pleasant as the last time we played there.
The reason we did not enjoy lt so much was we were behind a three ball ladies and were waitlng on every tee for at least 5 to 10 minutes but in fairness the course was busy and also the greens were very poor after the hollow toning but it would not stop us playing there again.
Great value
Great value for s great course, great fairways and the greens were amazing
Great Course, Poor Golfers!
My 23 year old son and I rarely get the chance to have a round of golf, so neither of us are great. We had a really mixed day on this picturesque course, hitting the normal mix of stunning shots, followed by a couple of bad ones. Nothing to do with the course, just us being poor golfers! The course has many challenging features - not least the fact that the roughs were horrible and its where we spent the majority of our 5 hours, looking for balls that had only just veered off the fairways.
All in all, a great way to while away the hours in the Devon countryside having some Father and son time.
