Dreadful
This course is massively let down by the conditions of the greens. Id have got a truer run putting on a tarmac road. Fairways are in good condition and although several areas of the course are under re construction I will be leaving a good 12 months before I play here again.
Avoid don't waste your time
Course poor condition, greens have no grass. Don't bother taking a putter you might as well use your wedge. Reminds me of a poorly maintained municipal. Save your pennies play somewhere else
Avoid don't waste your time
Got to the course no club house to speak of -sold to a nursery. There is work being done so larger muddy tractor tracks all over. Tee box markers missing on a few holes. Worst greens I've seen for years no point getting the putter out your bag. Reminds me of a badly run municipal. Spend your money and time playing somewhere else.
Perspective, its a decent course
I thought I would put a review on for the course after seeing a lot of negativity surrounding the place from previous players.
Frodsham has a fantastic course layout which will challenge every golfing ability, certainly a high handicapper to a single figure golfer. The course benefits from a high wind coming in from the estuary which provides a unique challenge which can only be described as a parkland/links course. Something you rarely come across in the area, but a welcome challenge nonetheless. Frodsham has a very large footprint covering alot of difference areas, hills and countryside. Meaning you don’t feel congested in a tight area with a lot of golfers around you. Expect some blind tee shots, dog legs and small greens.
Alot of reviews have gone in about the course conditions, which I would like to out some perspective on. We have just gone through an extremely hot spell of weather, being a course open to the elements especially the high wind which I mentioned before and having no green keepers to protect the course due to the recent virus. Greens are a challenge to putt on but I have no doubt they will be sorted in no time. It also looks like theres some change afoot to improve the course layout even further currently so watch this space.
Anyone who says this course isn’t worth £12 a round needs to really consider what they are saying. This place represents remarkable value.
Only improvements I would say the course needs would be yardage markers, even a 150 marker on each hole. Or if you’re like me remember the garmin watch next time!! Some of the tee boxes needs some work, the uneven surface needs some attention in places.
Apart from that, what more can you expect from a place that has had little to no support for 3/4 months, the greens did die and they are recovering now. You are paying 9hole course prices for an 18 here so I do think everyone should reconsider their voiced opinions on this place and implore that people try it. Keep the place in decent nick, repair your divots and pitchmarks and try an support a very decent course in the local area.
If you don’t think I know anything about courses. A 10 handicapper and previous member at Sandiway Golf Club, Vale Royal Abbey and Portal Championship. Thanks for reading.
Honesty is the best policy.
I thought the reviews prior to my round could have been slightly harsh but deary me, they were bang on. In fairness, the course design & fairways were actually half decent which is why I haven’t rated it 1* overall BUT the greens completely ruined the course and round of golf. Questionable even calling them ‘greens’ when they’re majority brown. The course needs a lot of TLC and could be great but until then, I wouldn’t bother wasting your money.
Don't waste your money.
Terrible, terrible greens can't see this course being here much longer. Every year it has gone down will. Robbery even at £15. I will never play this course again.
Robbery!
Charging money to play here is shocking, ive never seen a golf course with greens as bad as this. Some of the recent reviews claim they are improving so i dread to think what they was like because in their current state they are absolutely terrible! Tee boxes are scruffy and uneven so you rarely get a flat lie off the tee. This course surely won't be open much longer!
Good fairways, greens poor condition but slowly improving
played 2 weeks ago when greens were really poor, improved slightly today but no point in trying to read a putt, hit and hope, fairways in excellent condition great drainage...
Wet and windy
Wet day greens much improved from last time I played lovely views
Greens getting greener
Played this morning fairways in good condition they have been working on the greens you can see the difference in a week.
Greens a disgrace
Played here before. Even thought of joining as a member.
Greens abysmal and unwatered after break we have had the condition extremely poor and not seeded watered or rolled.
Appears improving facilities is taking priority over Course.
Tee not booked on system and yet Golfnow taken 2 tee time fees.
11:00 played x 3 players, but fee for 12:08 x 2 players also taken ???
Don’t waste your money
This is the worse course I have ever played.
This course should be played. The fairways are average , around the green is bad and the green (if you can call them greens) are shocking. There basically farmers fields. I don’t think it’s too much to ask for a flat tee off bed either.
The course doesn’t look like people even bother looking after it and the fact they have the nerve to charge money is a joke.
I played 18 holes but stopped even caring after 6 holes because it was that bad. I’m not a golf snob but teeing off behind lads in trackies and United tops just says it all about this course and even think they got sick of the course. The owners should be embarrassed at the stage of this course and they should just close it. Instead of robbing people of there money.
Basically don’t waste your money going to this joke of a place
DO NOT PAY TO PLAY HERE - SHAMBLES
First time visitor, never again. As many of the reviews have already said, greens are a disgrace - the worst I or any of my playing parters have experienced. I cannot understand how this course is still operational. Avoid at all costs.
Regular visitor
I play regular at the club greens are improving week on week fairways in great nick and general course,
Poor Condition
Normally enjoy this course however on this occasion was very disappointed with the condition of the course. The greens were terrible which is likely a result of the difficulties di=ue to recent pandemic, however would not pay to play whilst in the current state
Frodsham Golf Course
We have played this course a dozen times previously and it has always been a good place to play. Staff were always great and the course challenging.
We played there on Friday 19th June 2020 and it could not have been more different. We booked on line and we should not have bothered as everything was locked up, no staff to book in, no cards available, nothing. They have sold the club house to a children's nursery and I have no issue with this so there is building work going on, again no issue. Honest review, Tee to green was really nice and the fairways in good condition, we then get to the greens or browns as they should be called. Not sure what has happened but there is almost no grass its just bare patches of soil. \Where there is grass it is the same length as the fairways which spoiled the game. I hope whatever the problem is they sort it out as I would like to play there again but will leave it until it is sorted.
Not as bad as expected
After reading previous reviews I was expecting a total mess and actually thought about not going because of reviews. In reality the course was in pretty good condition except the greens. After 4 or 5 days constant heavy and thunderous conditions the course held up really well. Fairways where in great shape and drainage is amazing. Hardly any water held up on course. (In parts was squishy under feet) greens are In bad shape some dont have much grass and cause ball to bobble quite a bit. Could easily add 1 or 2 shots onto every hole. Ground keeper even told us this as we arrived. Given another 2 or 3 weeks of nice weather greens should be in a lot better shape. You can see groundstaff working on course trying to get it up to shape. Only paid £12 as a hot deal so for that price really cant complain to much. If your going for a serious match I wouldn't recommend but if it's just a friendly knock with friends or to work on your game definitely worth going. I will be keen to return in a few week to see how the greens are coming along and try better my score.
