Great course and history and super enjoyable to play
5th time playing here and each time it gets better and more enjoyable to play. Loads of history as a main European tour course event in the past and the first tee definitely has a bit of an aura about it. Now deemed too short for top level golf but plenty long enough for us typical club golfers with mid irons into many greens and a stiff test of golf. Has a predominantly heathland feel about the holes which wind their way through mature trees with strategic bunkering throughout meaning you have to think your way around. Split into two parts with a long walk over a bridge and main road which some might not like but for me it doesn’t detract from the quality of the course. Just sits really well in its surroundings and really good green set ups requiring accuracy throughout. Excellent condition for December with no temp greens and only mats on the par 3’s and they seem to be doing a lot of clearance and thinning out works. Nice old clubhouse and super friendly pro shop. A course I’ve grown to really enjoy playing and would definitely recommend and personally it’s better than the UK current ranking
