Heythrop Park Resort

The combination of the prolonged drought giving huge bounces and very long runs and the multiple slopes made the round a real trial, never being quite sure where the ball would end up and, in the conditions, not being able to follow it after it first landed.

Tees are in v poor condition, greens generally v good but with some scarring.

Bunkers have great amount of sand and are not raked properly leading to plugged ball in dry sand under bunker lip - shouldn’t happen in properly managed bunkers.

The course has interesting holes but poor signage (especially the sign in the trees between 7 and 8 saying to go left to find 8th fairway crossing and red tee. This leads to the assumption that the white and yellow tees must be up the right-hand track leading to a long and frustrating walk only to find that the left track leads to ALL the tees) and some very long walks from tee to next green in blistering hot weather left us exhausted so really recommend a buggy.

There is no club house, just a desk - but v helpful staff - you have to use the facilities in the hotel which, despite having several restaurants and bars will not serve you a snack before noon! Apparently the chefs are all too busy preparing the evening meals immediately after breakfast to make even a sandwich and the staff are all dismissive. Really? A hotel where they refuse a reasonable request?

We stayed at another Warners some years ago and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Times have clearly changed. We will not be returning.

We played Heythrop Park last Sunday (5/7/26) and paid £170 including buggy for 2 people. To say we were disappointed with the condition of the course was an understatement. Tee boxes were particularly poor with divets that hadn’t been repaired for several weeks, weeds untreated and just generally lacking maintenance.

We played the entire round behind 4 members who refused to let us through despite us being in a buggy and an empty course in front of them.

Post round I complained about the quality and I was offered a complementary round but I won’t be rushing back.

On a positive note, the pro in the shop was very welcoming.

The course is such that you can remember each hole after you have finished; there were no up and down sections, Some holes were isolated such that you could not see any other hole. Some long walks between holes. Greens were in great condition, some tees were a bit ropey. Very quiet for a Saturday afternoon. Overall very enjoyable.

Tee boxes are in dire condition and the course is a bit "rough around the edge". Really interesting course with great scenery and views of the manor house. Has the potential to be an incredible course with more investment and care. Disappointing that the greens were punched and sanded but no mention of this on the site or when checking in - 0 discount provided. We moved our tee time from another course which had called to let us know that they were treating the greens.

The greens and the course in general are in pretty good condition, no temp greens, take your trolley. It's a great layout with some very good holes. I love playing there.

It's been said before but off course is not great. Had to ask for a key to get into the toilet!! There is no clubhouse/pro shop to speak of. But if you can cope with that, go for it.

Value for money?...only if you use your golf pass voucher.

Great course. Drains so well, considering the wet weather we have has. Greens in great condition, tee boxes good and course layout fantastic. Difficult to find a negative. Pro shop is tiny so don’t expect too much. Staff friendly, definitely worth a visit

We played here as our course is closed and Heythrop is normally in good condition through winter. Welcomed by the pro who gave us a run down on course projects taking place through winter, great guy & always nice to have welcoming experience on arrival. Course was surprisingly firm considering amount of rain this year, greens & fairways in great condition with the new works completed adding to the experience. Hole 5 looks great now!! A couple of forward tees as expected but no complaints, looking forward to returning in the Spring.

Firstly this golf course is set in the most beautiful grounds of a stunning 18th century hall. Thats where the good ends. Wanted to hit some balls before our round, so asked for some balls to hit on the range. £5 for 30 of the most atrocious condition balls I have ever hit, Cracks, splits, misshaped, but then to have to hit them in the presence of the severely out of shape chain smoking pro made the whole range experience disgusting. I don't want to inhale that crap! The whole range experience ruined the round of golf on what was an average course at best and certainly not worth £50. Will never play this course again!

As a member elsewhere me and a friend decided to take a last minute gamble for an 18hole round and honestly couldn’t complain,

Course was immaculate throughout and greens were beyond acceptable for prime summer let alone this winter/autumn season,

Great walk all though the back 9 walk does start to wear on you due to slopes and gradients,

Lovely surrounding views throughout the course, hotel and spa facilities would make a great stay with friends or your partner.

100% would return.

The course was set up really well and had a lot to offer. It tested all aspects of your game and delivered on all fronts. Such wonderful setting and scenery to enjoy. We played as a 3-ball and was like millionaires golf. Groups in front and behind but at no point rushing ahead or behind that made you feel under pressure. Would love to play this again

Great course with some unique holes spanning pretty valleys, ponds and lakes.

Reminded me of Castle Combe in parts which is no bad thing!

The first 4 holes settle you in with straight forward golf holes, then you move into the woods, these are very pretty holes and may seem daunting to the high handicapper due to water, trees, valley etc.

Then you move onto the back nine which are dotted with nice wide fairways and the big house as a backdrop. All in all a fab course that makes you feel good, I went around in 9 over which seemed about right considering I'd never played it before.

I'd highly recommend a buggie at £30, it's hilly in places and there are some big walks between holes.

You will definitely benefit from hiring a buggy as there are holes where it's quite a way from green to the next tee.

Course setting is superb and there are some really stunning holes. The greens were in great condition and a lot quicker than the average. The facilities in the main Manor are brilliant but at the actual golf section you have a very small shop area and a vending machine. For food and drinks you need to walk to the Manor House, which is stunning, and has all you would want and more.

Considering that golf is not the main attraction, you would still be hard pushed to find better place to "spoil a good walk"!!

Really enjoyed playing this course for the first time. Course was dry but this was due to a lot of hot weather prior to playing, but still played really nice. Some stunning holes such as 5&6, and some quirky holes also. Would advise a buggy as there are some lengthy walks between holes making it feel like a very long course. Would definitely play again, just with a buggy next time!

Booked at late notice but had a lovely round. Very quiet and was able to play quickly and without delay. Considering the hot weather, the course was in great condition and the greens were exceptional. Not overly long but requires some careful consideration on strategy, you can pick your way around the course and score well. Some very memorable holes, including the 6th with water all the way down the left, and the downhill par 5 11th where you can't go left enough! Will be back soon

Enjoyable course to play, bunkers are probably the one thing that lets the course down, ridiculous amount of sand in them, around the greens is fine in the fairway bunkers preety much equals a bogey instantly.

Greens were true and a little slow than normal.

Overall an enjoyable day, not sure it’s worth £55. Personally I think £45 would be more suitable.

What a great day out....playing a four ball with nothing but the sounds of birds and the gentle breeze for company, we four ambled our way around the Bainbridge course at Heythrop Park. Not many birdies to talk about but plenty of crackin' views and challenging holes.

The course is extremely well planned out, uses the natural Oxfordshire contours very well and the par 5's are an excellent challenge - even for long hitters. There is considerable distance between holes in places and if you are aerobically challenged or not the fittest- take a buggy. On each hole, the avenue of colossal trees lining the fairway are a sight to behold and certainly worth the entrance fee.

I would highly recommend that if you are looking for a great golf challenge, go no further than Heythrop. You wont be disappointed. We will be back - but in the meantime please keep this secret gem to yourself...Mums the word!
