Great value
The course was set up really well and had a lot to offer. It tested all aspects of your game and delivered on all fronts. Such wonderful setting and scenery to enjoy. We played as a 3-ball and was like millionaires golf. Groups in front and behind but at no point rushing ahead or behind that made you feel under pressure. Would love to play this again
Afternoon single ball
Great course with some unique holes spanning pretty valleys, ponds and lakes.
Reminded me of Castle Combe in parts which is no bad thing!
The first 4 holes settle you in with straight forward golf holes, then you move into the woods, these are very pretty holes and may seem daunting to the high handicapper due to water, trees, valley etc.
Then you move onto the back nine which are dotted with nice wide fairways and the big house as a backdrop. All in all a fab course that makes you feel good, I went around in 9 over which seemed about right considering I'd never played it before.
I'd highly recommend a buggie at £30, it's hilly in places and there are some big walks between holes.
Really good greens, Excellent staff
Played a four ball with friends having booked on line.
You will definitely benefit from hiring a buggy as there are holes where it's quite a way from green to the next tee.
Course setting is superb and there are some really stunning holes. The greens were in great condition and a lot quicker than the average. The facilities in the main Manor are brilliant but at the actual golf section you have a very small shop area and a vending machine. For food and drinks you need to walk to the Manor House, which is stunning, and has all you would want and more.
Considering that golf is not the main attraction, you would still be hard pushed to find better place to "spoil a good walk"!!
Definitely recommend and will revisit soon. Mike
Great course but a long walk!
Really enjoyed playing this course for the first time. Course was dry but this was due to a lot of hot weather prior to playing, but still played really nice. Some stunning holes such as 5&6, and some quirky holes also. Would advise a buggy as there are some lengthy walks between holes making it feel like a very long course. Would definitely play again, just with a buggy next time!
Lovely course
Booked at late notice but had a lovely round. Very quiet and was able to play quickly and without delay. Considering the hot weather, the course was in great condition and the greens were exceptional. Not overly long but requires some careful consideration on strategy, you can pick your way around the course and score well. Some very memorable holes, including the 6th with water all the way down the left, and the downhill par 5 11th where you can't go left enough! Will be back soon
Good course
Enjoyable course to play, bunkers are probably the one thing that lets the course down, ridiculous amount of sand in them, around the greens is fine in the fairway bunkers preety much equals a bogey instantly.
Greens were true and a little slow than normal.
Overall an enjoyable day, not sure it’s worth £55. Personally I think £45 would be more suitable.
Best Kept Secret
What a great day out....playing a four ball with nothing but the sounds of birds and the gentle breeze for company, we four ambled our way around the Bainbridge course at Heythrop Park. Not many birdies to talk about but plenty of crackin' views and challenging holes.
The course is extremely well planned out, uses the natural Oxfordshire contours very well and the par 5's are an excellent challenge - even for long hitters. There is considerable distance between holes in places and if you are aerobically challenged or not the fittest- take a buggy. On each hole, the avenue of colossal trees lining the fairway are a sight to behold and certainly worth the entrance fee.
I would highly recommend that if you are looking for a great golf challenge, go no further than Heythrop. You wont be disappointed. We will be back - but in the meantime please keep this secret gem to yourself...Mums the word!
Totally overrated!
Firstly, the receptionist attitude to me because I booked online, was poor.
Telling me, I should have to phone before coming, was not only odd but something I’ve never experienced before. She clearly messed up with the booking schedule which was confirmed we she ask me if I could play 10mins later!
First few holes are up and down but got interesting thereafter, especially with the distance between the holes.
Course looked neglected and in a lot of areas not treated, even though some of the greens were good.
Four and half hours walking round, which wasn’t helped by a family group adding to the slow play.
Poor signage all round didn’t help
This is a tough walk, so recommend a buggy for those whose fitness isn’t great.
I believe this course would be a long day with those with a high handicap, it clearly tests your skills on this hard terrain.
Sorry didn’t enjoy the day and found the cost high, they are clearly playing on the setting rather than the course conditions.
Beautiful setting and all around facilities
This was the first time playing the course. Very impressed. Driving range facility very close to clubhouse and first tee. Mature, and well maintained course. Great variety on the greens, with plenty to keep the amateur putter guessing. Some beautiful par 3’s, challenging par 5’s and mix of par 4’s ranging from “might be able to drive the green here”, to, “wow, shouldn’t this be stroke index 1?” Day bookended by amazing cooked breakfast and well earned beer on the terrace in the late afternoon sun. Perfect. Will be back!
Beautiful course
Course is absolutely stunning and so much potential, but needs some improvements to bring it to a top course level which I think will happen now under the new management. Difficult course to walk as distances between green and next t box is sometimes a long way and also some areas very steep. Would always take a buggy which at £30 is quite expensive.
Beautiful course
Course was in unbelievable condition considering the weather it's had recently, greens were quick and true and the fairways were pretty much dry .
The guy in the pro shop was very helpful and all the greens staff were friendly.
If I were to play the course in the summer a trolley or buggy would be a game changer as the walk from green to tee on some holes, although beautiful through woodland areas , is quite a trek .
100% will be back
