Rye Hill Golf Club - Championship Course

A very friendly welcome but, sadly, no part of the clubhouse itself or course stands out.

The tees needed a cut.

The fairways have more weeds than I would have liked to see.

There are only a few bunkers on the course, so the greens' defence is their slopes. Overall the greens are currently in poor condition.

Late teeing off as pro shop staff not there for us to collect and pay for buggies was booked for 7 am and didn’t tee off until nearly 7.15 am

Second time playing the course for less than £25 a round! Greens were actually quite good. Tee boxes with hole breakdown and yds. Really slept on course, lay out is very good! Few challenging holes but not too challenging.

Really good value for money some lovely holes, greens let it down a lot but still good value for money!

I mean maybe a little harsh here due to weather but the greens are awful and the tees also! I’m sure they can be watered somehow.

To be fair, the rest of the issue here are weather related.

Fegeadless though, some of the greens are in a bad way.

Played this course around 4 years ago and was one the best with the area especially value for money. Played today and its as if its now a council course. You cant tell the difference between the fairway and the rough. Ive never played on a course where there is weeds and dandelions on the fairway. There is also no hazards whatsoever on the front 9 all the bunkers have been filled in. The back 9 was definitely more enjoyable though looks like that is maintained a little. Directions to the next tees was really poor also very little yard markers hard to tell how far out you are. Overall id say if its your first ever round of golf then this course will be fine but not if you want to actually have a good game of golf

We played a Sunday morning two-ball and had a whale of a time. Impressive grand entrance to the course between sweeping valley fairways. Lovely course kept well, but leaving dandelions and such. Greens in good nick. All certainly good for a high handicapper like me. I found it tough but fair with long holes.

Nice course putting greens full of divets lets it down

This course wasn’t very good in all honesty. The greens were so unbelievably bad, they were like concrete, very patchy and very tricky to navigate. Even the turf on the fairway is terrible, some was very hard, some very soft, some even like moss at times. I know it’s only £20 and you get what you pay for, but this wasn’t good. It’s a real shame cos there is potential there, the layout in my opinion is very good, especially the back 9, just the conditions very much lack.

This call sits in rolling countryside with very attractive views. The conditions were good on the day, and the tees and greens were in reasonable condition.

There is a good Club shop, and changing ribs look okay although I didn’t use them. Easy to find, lots of car parking and I think it’s good value.

Really enjoyed the experience. Friendly staff, and a wonderful course. Every group let me play through. Stunning views. Highly recommended

Played here a few times over the past few years and it has gone down hill massively. Fairways need mowing, changing facilities are tired looking & tee boxes are battered. But that pales into insignificance when compared to the state of the greens. Covered in pitch marks, even some divots and impossible to put on. Really disappointing course and unless there’s massive changes I can’t see it staying open much longer

My wife and I are both high-handicappers in our 70's, and we played 18 holes there recently, despite being put off by the negative reviews (from 4 years ago). I have to say it was one of the most enjoyable rounds we've played in a long time. The staff were very welcoming, and we paid £75 for two green fees and a buggy. OK, so the tees were a bit scruffy, as were some of the fairways, but then so is our golf. Greens very good to excellent. Wide fairways, and the rough was all of 2 inches thick. The trees were in lovely autumn colours, and there was hardly anyone else around, Long holes, and 14 - 18 were particularly attractive. Lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Do go and play the course - you won't be disappointed.

First time visiting this course and my first piece of advice is that if you follow the SAT NAV, it may try to take you up a narrow driveway....if it does, you have turned too soon. The entrance to the golf club is very clearly marked with a sign so don't make the same mistake I did.

The club house and main building is very encouraging and the chap on the desk when I arrived (early) was very helpful and quite proud of the place and happy to help me get sorted for my round.

As I played on the Tuesday morning at 8.30am, the course was deserted and so it was like playing millionaires golf.

The course itself has lots of wide forgiving fairways which allow high handicappers like myself to play to a reasonable level. The weather was very hot and the fairways and greens were in need of some love. The greens especially were not as good as they could have been but it didn't stop me enjoying my time at Rye Hill and I would absolutely return.

The course is very inviting with many long holes with wide fairways. The front nine is generally flat and with few bunkers. The back nine is more undulating with holes making the most of the valleys and sloping landscape. Whilst this does present some unique challenges the greens let the course down with many showing bear patches and holes. Despite this I would recommend anyone to have some fun in this course.
